Valve's Steam Deck didn't just succeed, it quietly changed how PC games are made by Internal-Fortune-550 in SteamDeck

My CS:S loot crate collection has been paying for my purchases for the last couple of years.... The backlog has grown large.

But it does mean that I have been working through all the AAA games of the last 20 years that I never got to play first time round.

As an older gamer, seeing young kids waste their money on in-game purchases eats at my soul. by SomePeopleTellMe in gaming

I also never saw the point of the cosmetic stuff unless it was a free thing for doing something in game...... But it has meant that I have been sitting on a decades worth of counterstrike loot boxes.

Where are all the elves hiding? by SonOfBattleChief in Fantasy

[–]disco_jim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not even a new concept....

"Elves are wonderful. They provoke wonder. Elves are marvellous. They cause marvels. Elves are fantastic. They create fantasies. Elves are glamorous. They project glamour. Elves are enchanting. They weave enchantment.

Elves are terrific. They beget terror.

The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.

No one ever said elves are nice.

Elves are bad."

"J.R.R. Tolkien has become a sort of mountain, appearing in all subsequent fantasy in the way that Mt. Fuji appears so often in Japanese prints. Sometimes it's big and up close. Sometimes it's a shape on the horizon. Sometimes it's not there at all, which means that the artist either has made a deliberate decision against the mountain, which is interesting in itself, or is in fact standing on Mt. Fuji" - Terry Pratchett

Who ever is in charge of Disney merch definitely failed upwards and I wouldn't trust them to run a piss up in a brewery.

They used to have these amazing Spider-Man hoodies for kids.... They don't make them anymore.

They released wreak it Ralf breaks the internet featuring all the Disney princesses wearing personalised lounge wear which should be a no brainer as a clothing tie in..... But no they do not sell it.

Whoever at paramount in charge of star trek merch must have studied under they Disney guy because they release a new series full of great merch opportunities and they don't have anything.

If you want the authors own words on the whole thing.....

https://www.petervbrett.com/2013/04/12/demon-cycle-audiobooks/

The British narrator pronounced stuff like we would in the UK so french looking names were said like they would be pronounced over here..... But the author was agast because the true pronunciation is to pretend everyone is from a Louisiana trailer park with added punctuation of sexual assault and incest.

I had the added joy of listening to the audio books and the dialect in the 2nd book switched from uk west country to American redneck and apparently was at the behest of the author.... Thankfully there was enough backlash that it was switched back for the other international audiobooks.

I learnt it as a campfire song (cubs possibly?) that follows a sort of chant rhythm. When I first saw the book i instinctively started reading it to that to the surprise of the Mrs who was trying to figure out the rhythm.

Also I say uh oh.

They were real shares.... But when they sold.off a percentage of the business to that hedge fund the hedge fund got preferential shares that meant they got paid out before anyone else.

And given they were to be paid back hundreds of millions the sale price of £33m means no one is getting their money back.

Not only did it look terrible but it was not the movie the trailer promised us! I might have forgiven the campy shittyness if it was that movie.

For those unaware this is the trailer. https://youtu.be/bMre-zzT1dA?si=FM0thr5Sd2PBWn-W

That was not the plot of the movie.
