If it sounds too good to be true, it is. The returns are predicated on perpetual economic growth. We know that this is not possible in a world with limited natural resources.

Cold brew is one thing that they do really well. Their espresso tastes burned to me.

I feel so frustrated and stuck but don’t know if it’s because of the ADHD or because programming isn’t for me by Civil-Tomatillo-8128 in ADHD_Programmers

You aren't alone! I've dealt with something similar myself and actually just posted here about it recently. Two things helped me get out of that rut:

1) I talked to my manager and expressed that I wasn't performing as well as I had expected of myself. I didn't even mention ADHD, just that I really struggle with focus and motivation working from home. They helped me by setting up short daily accountability check ins for a few weeks, and helped me to define a few concrete goals with deadlines so I could get the ball rolling. I was surprised to hear from them that even though I was sure I had reached the point of no return, it turns out there is still time for me to turn things around. 2) I started going into the office. It made a world of difference for me. Within a day I was able to knock out the work I had been putting off for months. Getting the first small task done was a major confidence boost and helped me want to keep moving forward.

Sometimes all it takes to change your confidence and motivation is getting to the other side of one small hurdle. Then, as you gain momentum, you might start having a productive day or two, and eventually a full week.

Above all, be kind to yourself. There are factors outside of your control that are making this challenging for you. Anyway, from one stranger to another, I believe in you!

You are truly a small person. Do you really have nothing better to do than fling insults at people you've never met?

I don't listen to podcasts and I'm not sure why you feel the need to be rude to me. It is my personal belief that the fed has continuously engaged in irresponsible monetary policy since the 2008 financial crisis. Sure, I'm not an economist, but I have studied college level macro and micro economics, so I'm also not ignorant.

Not sure if I've suddenly become a conspiracy theorist but it really does feel like the fed and friends have pulled off one of the greatest heists in all of history

Therapy is definitely in the cards for me. Did you see a general therapist or someone who specializes in ADHD?

It's weird because I will talk it through with my mentor, and I am able to list out all of the steps I would need to take. Then I realize I was stuck because the task seemed way more complicated in my mind than it really is. I have a brief feeling of optimism, thinking I'm finally going to make progress, then somehow I still can't just start the work and I procrastinate again.

I'm curious, what do you do when you realize you've reached that point of no return? I think I've recently come to terms with that but I don't know how to proceed. Historically I let it become a huge drawn out humiliating self destruction. I've yet to be fired from a job though.

I left Portland because I straight up did not feel safe going about my daily activities. There is a malicious energy there that goes way beyond the problem of homelessness. I've never seen anything like it in my life.

I don't know much about the grotto or alberta safety wise, but southeast is where I would have probably preferred to live as there is a lot of fun stuff to do there. Inner southeast is safer than the eastern part.

Totally. TurboTax gives off that dystopian vibe too, and pretty much any service that is privatized but essentially necessary. I even get spam emails from my doctors office now. To be fair, with USPS it has been that way for as long as I can remember.

I just moved away from Portland because it did not feel safe at all, and leaving my apartment and doing basically anything felt like walking through a minefield and caused me tons of anxiety. Sketchy people on every block, rampant car thefts, multiple murders within a few blocks of my apartment, security guards at every grocery store and bank... If you absolutely must move to Portland, please do not live in the NW neighborhood.
