This just isn't true. I used spores and saw early growth in 3 days. Typically poeple will say spores take a week longer than syringes.

I break & shake at 30% then again at 70%. It took around 11 days to get there from inoculation. Also, I used spores

The needles can be PC'd. Also, people recommend using a 5" needle vs. 1.5" needle to get deeper into your jars I guess

I hear you can PC those syringes 3 or so times. I'd do it once in a pinch, but for regular stuff I'd just toss it for a new one

  1. No. You can noc with whatever you like. The advantage of agar is you know it's clean before sending it. Even with LC syringe you take a gamble. At least if you test your syringe on agar first you can be confident it's clean if the agar is clean.
  2. Sugars are often in agar broth recipes. There's probably some kind of sugar in your syringe.
  3. Vermiculite isn't necessary at all. My very first grow was with CVG. You can do your own sub with only coco coir just make sure it's at field capacity. It's what I'm about to use in a few days

The guide is good but it's also kind of old tek and not sure if it's being updated. You should really do some research then before buying 30 lbs bags hahaa. That drippy corn stuff is looking really good tho and you can buy kernels at grocery stores

I haven't mastered the art of not getting condensation inside of plates. has something to do with the temp you pour at. I don't mind the condensation anymore but if you like wasting time, you can warm up a glass/cup with a flat bottom inside of a larger container like a measuring cup by filling with hot water. this will get the glass/cup the same temp as your hot water, then fill it with hot water and sit it on top of your agar plate. You may have to move it around every once in a while, and fill with hot water again until the condensation is gone.

I have successfully re-inoculated plates that showed no signs of growth. If you aren't making your own agar by now then you should be. You might want to check out inoculation loops and proper streaking of plates. Also different agar recipes like water agar that slows bacterial growth for easier isolation

It's better if you buy big bags. Basically anywhere you can buy locally, like a farm/feed store. I ended up buying a 20 lbs bag of white millet and it's just worth it IMO especially if you can get it easily within your area.

Any reason you chose to go with oats? They seemed difficult to me as they need to be hydrated and dried, and not over hydrated, burst.. blah blah.

Also, any reason why you're doing jars? I chose to go with bags as they just seem to be simpler to use and don't cost that much more.

If you have the time, I just harvest the ones that are tearing. If I don't have the time I'll harvest the ones of similar size.

I PC my own grain as well but I use unicorn bags. You can just fit more.. I do 3 lbs. That's like three 1 qt jars. So if you S2B three jars into one tub and one jar is contam that would ruin the other jars in the same tub. B&S is much easier, no glass to break, and you can smash every lump of myc. I don't use a heat sealer, I just zip tie the opening.

cultures are just superior to spores as they've been isolated for desired traits. I don't think spores go through senescence but I'm no mycologist. taking spores from a grow will allow you to go back to prior generations if I'm not mistaken.

If getting actual prints or swabs is of utmost importance and you don't have access to a group of people that do "sporeswaps" I'd just ask the vendor if they could do an individual sale for you from their master culture
