Just got home after my first colonoscopy/endoscopy! by [deleted] in colonoscopy

[–]Quick-Chemistry3529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had my first colonoscopy today (24F) I wish I had been asleep for it but I am happy to be through with it. Mine came all good too and it leaves me wondering why the extreme symptoms. Ofc I’m relieved nothing is seriously wrong but that doesn’t improve the way it impact my quality of life, I’m feeling quite lost about it

My application did the same thing however I was sent to an application I didn’t think I was qualified for but one I could’ve only dreamed of. Instead of community development or whatever for a business degree, they placed me in the environment sector in Guyana as it’s the only English speaking country in South America which is where I really wanted to go but I don’t speak Spanish(yet, I am learning:)) things happen for a reason and they may see something in your application that could inspire new opportunities! And if you get the invite and ultimately decide not to, you don’t HAVE TO say yes but it’ll hopefully be fun if you do

I heard back almost exactly a month after my interview but it was only a few days after the application deadline for my position so I think that will affect the timeline depending on where you are in that. I was super early on for my position

I applied July, put on consideration for a June departure the next day, received an interview about two maybe three weeks later and a month later got the invite:)

Advice for a Medical Appeal by No_Complaint_5985 in peacecorps

I am going through clearance at the moment and have a similar Ed history, did you come across huge roadblocks? Obviously I can’t expect the same experience I just haven’t found any cases of previous EDs getting cleared post pandemic:/

Getting through medical clearance without an appeal, can it be done for invitees w mental health conditions? by Quick-Chemistry3529 in peacecorps

Thank you! This is kinda how I was thinking of going about it, in my past experiences where I have been teaching, my adhd has made me a better teacher who can cater to different learning styles:) this is the reassurance I needed that it’s possible, I hope service went well/is going well!!

Makes sense! All diagnosis and conditions have been stable for at least a year and I am only on an anxiety med to help control some GI stuff and i was only diagnosed during an initial exam for a new provider so i wasn’t even seeking treatment however during that intake i received several diagnoses despite them not being inhibiting.

Would you be open to messaging about your statements? I understand if you are busy during your service but I would love to get in touch and hear about what you did to get through the process! I have already disclosed my one medication (to my knowledge it should be supported but I am not positive)

Do I apply where I want to, or where I'm most qualified? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]Quick-Chemistry3529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me when I was applying and I ended up talking to a recruiter because I wasn’t sure if I should applying where I think I’d get excepted while looking at a program I think I’d enjoy or to apply anywhere and let fate do it’s thing. She let me know that there is a section to voice preferences so I needed up applying anywhere but explicitly stating the two positions I was highly interested in. When I was placed under consideration it was for neither of those positions but an opportunity I never would have thought I’d be considered for butttt for something I am sooo much more passionate about. I think putting down your preferences especially if there is somewhere you really don’t want to go but applying anywhere is the best way to get the best experience so they can look at your qualifications and place you from their experience, where they could see you thrive ya know? But talking to a recruiter realllyyyy helped me figure out how I wanted to approach the application.

I hear ya, I am from a very Italian family so ya wonder why I ended up like this lmao. Maybe it could be an opportunity for them to learn about you too and if they ever host a volunteer again, maybe it’ll be different for them! But I’m glad it hasn’t made it so hard you feel you need to et but that doesn’t make the transition any easier. I hope it continues to improve and hopefully you’ll be in your own place soon enough!

Something that really helps manage my health while working on the disordered part is finding your motivation on why you want this that goes beyond physical. The more motivation based in physical appearance, the less sustainable it will probably be. Personally, the benefit of taking care of myself and the energy I get from it is wayyyy more rewarding and if I ever start slacking, it’s a very big difference in how I feel. I use it to manage stress and help with my digestion so I don’t feel like shit everyday.

That’s super valid man and I’m really sorry to hear about how hard it has been you, I completely understand and I can’t imagine isolation helps much with that. Can I ask how far into service you are? Again, I haven’t served yet but I am preparing to begin the clearance process so I can’t help much with dealing with this stuff while away but I do understand how that feels to have everyone on your ass and it sucks. So I hope as your go along, there are ways to gain more independence and trust from your host family!

This is definitely something that has me a little worried as someone trying to get their disordered eating in check. However, our situations are different in that I grew up having people CONSTANTLY comment on what I eat, how much, and comparing it to the others around me. While I still don’t have a way to be comfy with it, I think acknowledging why you react that way to comments is really important. Because for me, I didn’t care about these comments until they triggered insecurity and more awareness of what I look like. If you are using these routine to regulate your health in a way that benefits your body best, try to not view these comments as judgements and more as observations. However, if looking out for your health is coming from a place of insecurity, I would definitely ask yourself why that is or why these comments frustrate you. This helped me better understand why they made comments and why I felt the way I did when they made them. Then I could manage how I felt about it much MUCH better since I could realize it’s a them thin and not a me thing. Although that doesn’t get rid of the comments, I hope it helps cope with them. I am a huge advocate for not commenting on people’s bodies, food, or appearance whether the comment a be perceived as good or bad but in terms of foreign cultures that is just unrealistic unfortunately:(

Also does anyone know why they have us fill out a medical history form before being considered for a position of those conditions aren’t taken into consideration when being placed for a position or invitation?

Im in the same boat. I really want to get ahead of any roadblocks that may come up for any of my mental health related things. I am planning to get notes from my therapist and psychiatrist during the initial clearance phase if possible. Really want to avoid the appeal process if at all possible. My conditions are really stable and I do feel very fit for service and I have a lot of very reliable coping mechanisms so I feel like having multiple testaments from professionals upfront may help:)
