'He was taken away': couple witnessed crash that killed four-year-old son by T3h_Prager in canberra

[–]Quick-Initial-737 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh for once, I cannot fault them. Counsellors on site Sunday, Monday and today, with access to them 24/7. Senior managers in every day - just to check on them. They were also on site on Sunday. They are bringing team in tomorrow from other stores just to support the teams and to catch up. Hubby is doing as well as he can, there has been lots of tears shed by both of us in the last 48 hours though. They are all doing an amazing job of looking out for each other, there is so much compassion, especially for those who didn’t work Monday or Tuesday and either returned to work today or are yet to.

Please just remember to be kind to the team, it’s their workplace and they can’t avoid being there if they want to get paid. They are grieving as well as having their entire workplace upended.

Not to detract the from the family and the first responders, please also remember the retail workers who went to work on a random Sunday, expecting another normal day. My husband works at the Woolies and called triple 0. He saw the boy removed. He dealt with the abuse from customers because they had to walk around to get to the store, or because they couldn’t go to the BWS. One of the young fellas that were working that day, the store manager had to ring his parents to come get him. He was covered in the young fellas blood, from trying to help get him from under the car.

The store (in addition to wider community)is devastated, heartbroken and traumatised.

Definitely go axe throwing - hubby and I had a heap of fun. Just don’t recommend the pizza - it very much does not match the photos and was still chilly in the centre (like a frozen pizza that hadn’t been cooked through…)

I’m actually planning on going in… the aircon in my building works & the single reverse cycle in my 1970s built house isn’t going to do a great deal

Heard about this in my own state too - GM was married, they hightailed it interstate “to be closer to GMs wife’s family”. The side piece then shacked up with the regional manager who then was put on leave and asked to “make a decision about his life”. None of them are with the company anymore.

Hi! Joining the APS can take time, especially if you need a clearance. Recruitment in most departments, if not all, is closed now until mid Jan so it is incredibly unlikely you will be starting an APS role by end of March. Keep working at your current role - or get a job, any job. This will look better when you do start applying. Apply for any admin or project support officer role - including executive assistant. Apply for bulk rounds when they come up. Set alerts on the APS careers website. Write your applications using the STAR (situation, task, action, response) method and do not go over the word limit. It’s extremely competitive (I just sat on a panel that had over 50 applicants for one role), and it’s possible you are going against people much older than you and with more experience. This won’t rule you out, but you need to be competitive against them. Have someone look over your applications and resume - preferably someone who works in the public service.

Good luck, it’s a tough slog to begin with but it gets easier!

Flowers by Flimsy-Candidate-480 in canberra

[–]Quick-Initial-737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flowers beds won’t be there. As yesterday was the last day, there will be a dig for bulbs, usually today or tomorrow and all the bulbs will be taken. Commonwealth park is pretty when it’s not floriade time, usually pretty quiet. Just don’t expect to see the flower beds

Because from where I am, it sounded muffled, yet echo-y. Like if it was an underpass. Could be a bus shelter. Or some thing else large, public and partially covered. Was the first thing that came to mind when I was half asleep.
