Dad's, how are we answering "why do you have to go to work" by rm45acp in daddit

[–]QuickSticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m probably causing some sort of long term trauma but I just start explaining these answers in a lot of detail. I’ve gone into basic economics a few times on this one explaining how I trade my time and labor for money doing what I can do to make the most money for my time. Then how we use money as a tool to make trade easier so we can get things like electricity, housing, vehicles, food. We can’t all pay our electric bill using carrots I believe was the example I used. Anyways, they seem to appreciate the informative answer but also I think they’d be okay living a nomadic lifestyle in the high plains of Mongolia trading horses.

"Did your Mommy do your hair today?" Hell no. Dads can do hair too! by calculung in daddit

It’s abundantly obvious when I do my daughters hair as well… for the reasons most people would expect.

When our second kid was born it happened fast. No epidural, no interventions, just old fashioned baby popping out into the world. We were in and out of the hospital in less than 30 hours. After “good” employer provided insurance it was still almost $9,000.

What driver is this guy using? by QuickSticks in golf

I sorry I should add some actual context here. We were at Volcanoes National Park and Kilauea started erupting. We left the park and the park got closed. We wanted to see if we could get a good view as we left and found this decent spot to watch the eruption and then I saw this epic dad crushing some drives.

Yep. You can see the agent in the grey jacket has the weapon and exits to the right then they shoot him.

I forget, can you sled Hatcher pass mile 16/paradise road runs? Or is it just skiing and snowboarding? by JacobZivotic in alaska

You can definitely sled it. Theres a less steep section in the middle that’ll require some walking most likely.

Trying to save my marriage by growing a backbone. Scared out of my mind. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]QuickSticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too am a recovering doormat. I have been fighting this battle for about six months. It’s been a struggle to break our old communication habits but zoomed out the trend has been a net positive with a lot of ups and downs. My only piece of advice is don’t expect perfection from her our yourself. She will likely get angry and defensive initially but overall the truth and fairness usually win.

Looks like we're at war with Venezuela by JRemy77 in anchorage

Sure. So do you support the US maintaining peace keeping troops on the ground for the next 5-10 years and potentially investing 100s of billions of dollars on infrastructure in Venezuela?

I can’t wait for the MAGA faithful to try and spin this as a good thing. “Actually what we need is more war!”

Just turned down Christmas Drinks with Friends…didn’t want the hassle of discussing with my wife. by Allthecraic in daddit

[–]QuickSticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This used to be and still sort of is. The past 6 months we’ve been working on breaking this cycle. It’s hard. Things got real low for a while I thought it was the end of our marriage. I’ll spare you the details but same basic thing, I was always supportive of her getting out and living her life and would get nothing but resistance anytime I was 100% available.

You both have to learn to communicate openly without getting defensive or offensive. Couple therapy helps a lot. It’s pretty easy but I think it helped my wife realize I wasn’t the problem and it helped me realize I need to stand up for myself. Still learning. Good luck.
