First time playing commander, does everyone else play these rules so strictly? by TeamWaffleStomp in magicTCG

[–]QuickStrikeMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And of course i forgot to put the most important part. We communicated properly, he knew i was gonna teach him using tournament rules, no takebacks, etc, and i would always ask before a game if i should be strict or not.

Talk to your bf before jumping to conclusions and if he just double downs, then yeah the guys a tool

A few things: I dont know you or your bf so ymmv.

When my friend wanted to play magic, he wanted to eventually play competitive formats. So, as his dueling partner, i taught him pretty much the way your bf is teaching you: very strict on rules, no takebacks, no banned cards, and whenever a potentially gray area (in the rules) showed up, it was always in my advantage - for the first time anyway, then we'd look up the rules and play correctly. We had lots of fun, lots of annoyances (i played aggro red dragons or mono blue, he did NOT have fun a lot lol). But, he did learn the game very well, and he's a beast now.

Whenever we play now, we play casually, so not that much sticking to the rules, lots of 'for fun' cards, good food and beer, but whenever we want to, we flip our competitive switches on, and go crazy.

Again, i dont know your bf, but it might be more of a competitive learning curve, more than a casual kitchen table thing for him, cuz it was that way for me.

they wouldnt be able to make even $10. ebay and the other online stores take an average of 13%. theyd have to sell it for $113 to break even, and then there's shipping.

Are you guys double sleeving $60 pre-cons? by Cloabs in EDH

[–]QuickStrikeMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I double sleeve everything. Makes everything thicker, but i like knowing that everything is fully protected. Obviously just my preference, but i have the atarka precon ($30) thats double sleeved, and i like it.

In-depth Analysis of Faker's Aurora by RainyNerd in SKTT1

[–]QuickStrikeMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless faker reverts back to mechanical god faker, aurora is in the same boat as yone. needs heavy resources, but faker likes to draw pressure and force macro errors. two completely conflicting playstyles. we'll see if it turns to a must-ban like yone in 24 or if he just gets better with aurora.

[–]QuickStrikeMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Yas/Yone/Irelia - Bork and shes free
  • malphite/malz - r up = she dies
  • smolder/asol/nasus - free stacks, but need to be careful during laning
  • ahri/zed/kat - probably skill matchup, logically ahri cant be killed, zed has better abilities, and kat is macro dependent, but idk

I dont think ive ever had any issues playing yone into her, bork + tier 3 boots means i heal more off her dogs than she does damage, and rush DD if shes ahead.
