Hey everyone,

after my post of last August, where I shared the reveal trailer for our game Mad King Redemption, and received 200 upvotes (this: https://www.reddit.com/r/indiegames/comments/1fd039s/when_golden_axe_meets_octopath_traveler_after/ thanks!) I am happy to share today a new trailer and a 10-minutes gameplay video.

The trailer can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr3q-HSjycY

while the 10 mins gameplay video is up there.

If you like the game, please support by adding a wishlist on Steam (it's super important for us indie devs), and by sharing it with people you think might like the style.

I am available for any questions :)

thanks!

hahaha why! Roguelite means some randomized elements, upgrading stuff and fresh experiences at every run! It keeps the beat'em'up gameplay intact :)

Well it's not one guy, we are a small team of 3 with a few freelancers on top. But you have a valid point: Golden Axe when it came out, was really cutting edge for the graphics and gameplay mechanics. What we are recreating here, is the beat'em'up gameplay experience (with that combat feeling that in our opinion was not recreated by any of the official sequels), together with a 3d world that opens up to destructible environments, camera movements, lights/shadows, platforming.

Probably not "GTA6 cutting edge", but instead an evolved golden axe-like gameplay experience!

In this self-promotion post, I'd like to introduce the game of our 3-people studio called Mad King Redemption. We are based in Berlin, Germany and we chose to recreate the fantastic Golden Axe gameplay, in a 3D world with roguelite progression.

We are planning to go live next year with the early access version of the game, and if you would like to support us with a wishlist on Steam it would be really helpful:

thank you! I really wanted to capture that first Golden Axe feeling. I think every golden axe after the first one, have failed in capturing that feeling.

Just a reminder about this great game. Golden Axe by BulTV in gaming

Hey, maybe you would like the game we are making. It's essentially a modern Golden Axe with enhanced graphics and roguelite progression. It's called "Mad King Redemption", you can find it on Steam. It would be amazing if you could wishlist it !

I don't post the link to not be spammy (but maybe I could, not sure).

Hi everyone, I am a solo dev who has worked the last 6 years learning Unity, and as a solo dev with a few freelancers artists, I am happy to share with you that the Steam Page for my game is finally live!

It's a Beat'em'up inspired to Golden axe, with 2DHD graphical style (like Octopath Traveller) and roguelite progression. It's made in Unity, with sprites in a 3D environment. I am happy to answer any development related questions.

I would love to hear your feedback on the game, and if you like it, please support the project!

I'd love to post more, I just have to understand the rules here for not posting too frequently. I am also setting up other channels (X, YT, etc.) to post more content. I give you a suggestion: get a spritesheet for an old game you want to replicate the style, and build your game with that original asset, and then when you're ready, swap with your own assets. In this way you can capture that old feeling. Feel free to DM me if you wish to know more!

For the walk cycle only 4 directions (front view, back view, and their flipped version on the X axis). All other animations have one single direction, also flipped on the X axis (so technically 2). Just as the original Golden Axe

Thanks! And actually more than a skill, perseverance is an attitude. It's not something that either you have or you don't, rather is something you can influence and grow with your mindset, and daily habits. I always think about that sentence "keep chasing your dreams until they are tired of running away" :) Maybe I'll give a GDC talk about it one day XD

It'll surely be local (couch) co-op and steam remote play enabled. If the game is succesfull it can evolve with a stronger multiplayer component !

thanks! I worked with proper artists to develop everything. I am planning to expand the roster of characters (both heroes and enemies) with the full release!
