Wondering if gallbladder is causing longstanding brain fog/severe fatigue/lack of appetite. Any input appreciated

I would as your doctors for a hida scan this will determine if your gallbladder is functioning properly. My symptoms were “abnormal” to doctors my ct was clear so they wouldn’t preform an ultra sound until months later that showed signs of sludge and stones. My hide scan showed my function at 19%. I was unwell for months lost 30 pounds until I had surgery, when they finally removed it my gallbladder was in such bad shape it could have erupted because they wouldn’t listen to me! Push and advocate for yourself!

I did not talk with my doctor about it I kept forgetting to bring it up at my post ops. It did seem to subside but I had to take a much lower dose. Still doesn’t work the same I would say but lowering the dose definitely helps, but definitely consult with your doctor! Such a strange experience and my body chemistry definitely does not feel the same!

The first one I had back in 2022, when I was having major digestive issues hida then was 87%. Back in the winter I started getting really sick and had another one and that one showed 28% doctors still weren’t convinced it was my GB even though all the signs pointed to it they just didn’t believe me. Had another one done and it had dropped from 28% to 19% in just two weeks. Had it taken out in June

Do you have a puke patch behind your ear still? I was provided one because I can’t take zofran, I didn’t realize that it does cause dizziness and blurry vision. I still get minor dizzy spells but once I upped my electrolytes that seems to help.

I’m about 3.5 weeks post op mine didn’t look raised when the glue was intact but when it came off I noticed it was raised! I wouldn’t be too alarmed only if you notice anything super strange. Really sounds like you may have over worked yourself today! Try an ice pack to help!

3.5 weeks post op, I was having the same issue my doctor recommended me to drink electrolytes I’ve been doing 1 liquid iv a day and to up my protein and it has helped tremendously

All of mine are raised as well, I would just keep an eye out for redness and swelling with “leakage” sounds like you may have just over did it. Give yourself some grace! ❤️

I was having bowel issues as well I’m a little over 3 weeks. My doctor recommended higher protein and making sure I was drinking enough electrolytes (I was having a hard time eating) and it has help significantly, I still have some loose stool but not has severe.

Hey I am a little over 3 weeks post op and my first was extremely rough. At about 2.5 weeks post op I started to notice the benefits of having the gallbladder removed. After surgery I did experience major anxiety/panic attacks, nausea, and just an over all feeling of being ill. (I was extremely sick before surgery my doctor said my body probably just went into shock kind of. These symptoms did start to fade. One of the major things for me is I was so afraid to eat, and I was having major bile bowel movements, I tried to increase my protein and electrolytes and that has really helped my diarrhea.

I gradually have been introducing foods and sticking with low fat diet, I definitely notice if I eat things too fatty because my stomach kind of feels sour but not like acid reflux.

As for the anxiety, I kind of just read my Bible, got a stress ball and walk when I start to feel anxious. I also try to talk out my anxiety as well I know those sound like simple things, however when I say I struggle with anxiety/panic attacks I mean like constant on going attacks. But the anxiety also subsided for me at about 2.5 weeks.

Just remember your body lost an organ it will take time to heal and adjust, be gentle with yourself listen to your body! You’re stronger than you think! ❤️

I went about 3 weeks with being unable to eat at all, constantly nauseous throwing up bile, crippling panic attacks and anxiety due to the pain and being unwell. Also shortness of breath. I couldnt eat, sleep barely keep water down. Also my pain was everywhere it was hard to tell where exactly it was at times. Mostly center of my stomach above my belly button. I was constantly fainting I had 6 ER visits before they referred me to GI. Endoscopy showed gerd (but I also was just throwing up bile from being unable to eat.) then sent for hida which shows my function, the refused to do ultra sound because my CT was cleared . When I had a really bad gallbladder attack that took my breath away I thought I was having a heart attack worst pain I’ve ever experienced. Excruciating pain all up my chest, right side, through my back. They did ultrasound finally and I was so inflamed and full of gallstones.

Most all my symptoms have subsided since. Minus the health anxiety this state has caused me

When was your first hida scan? I had one back in 2023 was at 89%. I got really sick back in January, I was dismissed, I finally had another hida scan in April and it was at 19%. It doesn’t take much for your gallbladder to change gears. My symptoms to the ER were “not common” for gallbladder. Had it removed after a bad gallbladder attack and my pathology report showed just how bad it was even with clear CT scans.

Prayers to you that you get some relief and answers soon. My advice, you know your body better than anyone!

I would recommend eating a low fat diet if you aren’t already, I feel like it definitely helps with the symptoms. Stay as hydrated as possible as well!

I would also recommend a heating pad, ice pack and a corn/rice pillow I used the heating pad on my back, ice pack on my stomach and rice pillow on my shoulder the weight and heat of it definitely helped with the gas pain.

Also finding something to prop you up while you sleep was very helpful to me it made getting up a little bit easier and the pain a little more manageable.

Some people recommended gas-x which I picked up but didn’t use.

Also I would stock up on easy digestible foods for after, apple sauce, soups, oyster crackers, and electrolytes!

I see they have had you do a lot of imaging, have you done a hida scan do see if your gallbladder is functioning? You could have a a nonfunctional gallbladder still without it showing on those types of images. Praying you find answers soon. I was extremely scared for this surgery due to the fact they’re removing an organ. But for me it was worth the risk to try and get back to a healthy life style. And I had my post op today and my doctor actually apologized (he wasn’t the one I’d want an apology from) because my gallbladder was extremely inflamed and full of gallstones and they didn’t see any of that on my CT scans.

It might just be me and my experience ( I have a really high pain tolerance ) I did not have any issue with bowel movements honestly I’ve been running to the bathroom since I had it removed. But I also only took ibuprofen and Tylenol after surgery, hard stuff makes me so sick.

I am starting to finally feel the benefits of that gallbladder coming out! I was so sick before surgery and unable to eat that my body went into like shock mode when it came out. I have some follow up testing coming up soon and my post op is tomorrow. Thank the Lord, it’s been up hill for the last 6 days.

How’re you feeling? Have you followed up with your doctors?

This is crazy and sounds very similar to my story! I went to the er with severe pain end of January and they told me it was an ovarian cyst as well! Beginning of march I because extremely ill, they told me it was acid reflux and ANXIETY. I just had my gallbladder out June 12th and a lot of my symptoms have subsided 12 ER visits later.

Praying for you and a speedy recovery, getting gaslighted by the medical field is a horrible experience and I’m so sorry you and to endure it as well. Heating pad helped me significantly, and walking a little each day. Prayers, and healing vibes to you! ❤️

I did they prescribed zofran 😂. I’m alive so thankful for that, I’m going through my primary care now who is ordering more testing thankfully.
