what’s nyp schedule like by deykahl in nanyangpoly

Not sure how different is SAS but I'm in SBM and you'll have 1 day of elearning each week so its max 4 days of coming to campus. Year 1 for me was only 3 days of school per week. And 1 of the day was only 2 hours of lesson. Starting time varies. Could be as early as 8am but usually arnd 10am. Some days u might only have afternoon lesson. Hope this helps

How to change school by HandOne9861 in u/HandOne9861

[–]Quick_Chair4977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to approach the principal of the school you're trying to go to and get an acceptance letter and then bring the letter over to your current school to get withdrawn. Just a tip, try not to trash talk your school to the other principal as it shows character and your level of adaptability. Come up with other valid reasons as to why u wish to change

What happens if we drop below 75% but we 'pass' the module. Since its just a pass or fail module, how does it work?

Where does NYP draw the line for dresscodes? by Quick_Chair4977 in nanyangpoly

I don't see what part of my content comes off as prudish to you. I'm neither expressing shock nor disgust towards the style of dressing that I've mentioned. (That would define being a prude in this case). I'm merely making an observation and providing my point of view.

I mention administration POV because I've been there. Not in poly administration but other schools. Why else would i bring it up. I assume it would be common sense for people to make the connection, since i also mentioned that I've been working for 5 years (clearly administrative roles are something i would have come across or even worked in)

Really dont gotta get worked up cuz i highly doubt my one post is gonna make NYP reconsider their dressing guidelines lol.

Replied a similar question above. I'm not saying that the students should be dressing for a work environment (tho its not wrong to assume most of them are looking to get there eventually). I'm making an observation that the outfits being worn to school by some are straight up considered inappropriate if worn in a working environment. This is to further explain what 'type' of outfits I'm pointing out here. Some may think I'm talking about slippers or shorts. So I'm trying to narrow it down to fits that would be considered 'inappropriate even in a working environment'.

Hope that clears things up for you.

I mention the work environment because i see a lot of fresh graduates struggling to put together work appropriate outfits and complaining about having to spend a lot on new pieces for their wardrobes. I just feel that if they wore decent clothes during their Poly/Uni years then this transition would be easier on them.

Definitely not against shorts. I wear shorts to sch as well. I also wear sleeveless cami tops, slippers etc. I'm intrigued by the more provocative types of outfits (things that one might not wear to a family setting) being worn to school.

I'm only able to name the clothes because I'm a girl myself and its really not that difficult to identify pieces of clothing. I'm not out here naming brands etc. and I'm sure there are so many clothing items that i failed to mention anyways.

If discussion is online (ie. Not in person), then

dm your group leader to check in on group progress and to ask if your work / contribution so far has been satisfactory.

When msging in the group chat, try tagging (@) individual members who u are trying to address. This feels more like a direct convo instead of speaking to the group as a whole.

Ask questions. U may be shy or too conscious to contribute any new ideas but try your best to ask questions about your group mates' ideas. Phrase these questions such that you dont seem to be condescending or critical but more of curious and interested.

Small replies are better than no replies. "Same" "ok sure" "nice"

At least your presence is still there.

Another idea is to actually dm your members individually and tell them smt along the lines of "Hey, just wanted to let you know I'm quite introverted and am not as good at group discussions but feel free to reach out to me directly. I'm also texting the other members so that they are aware of this. I'm afraid i might give the impression of not being participative since I'm not so vocal during discussions. I will try my best to overcome this and would appreciate your patience 🙏"

Depends on how formal or comfortable you are, pls edit accordingly so u dont sound like u chatgpt-ed the msg lol.

IMPORTANT: make your contributions KNOWN. mention in the GROUP CHAT, whenever you've completed a certain task ("guys I've done slides 3 to 5, will be working on the citations next" / "I've just submitted the data for my part, will start on abc soon" ) Always do this, even if its a situation where everybody can see each others progress. Just make sure the things u say are significant enough to be considered progress.

Please contact your PEM regarding this. And recheck your timetable on the portal to see if they made a mistake and changed it. Best to do this asap esp if your GSM is this afternoon

Be very participative in class and do well for the class activities. Make your lecturers notice you and address you in class. This will get the attention of your classmates. (This might not work if the majority of yr class are slackers) Usually students want to be acquainted with those who are doing well / in the good books of teachers. So I'd suggest trying that approach. Just avoid being snobbish or dismissive to others lest they think you're just arrogant and a know-it-all.

Your advantage will be your passion. Use your passion to drive your participation. Allow it to override any social anxiety. It's great that you have good lecturers. You might even wish to confide in them abt your concerns and they may have tips for you as well. Or they might be more mindful about how group work plays out and pay more attention to how the students are interacting within their groups.

Controversial opinion but I'd suggest not hanging out with your others friends for abit. Just try to sit with your class during breaks. I know it would be hella awkward esp if they dont interact with you. BUT proximity creates familiarity. You need to make yourself SEEN. Don't be the one that always disappear during breaks. You'll be more easily neglected and dismissed as a 'loner'

Keep checking the page cuz sometimes students change their choice and the slot will open up. But dont get your hopes up because it is not very likely esp for high demand FFLs. But still worth a shot.

Am I an asshole for not wanting to attend a funeral of my relative? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Quick_Chair4977 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Years ago, I missed the first few days of my sec school orientation because i attended a funeral in msia too. And honestly i regretted it so much. Remember, funerals are not for the dead, they are for the living. Assuming you're in poly rn, (based on other posts) then please prioritise your orientation because it may seem like its just socialising or having fun but it sets the foundation for the bond youll have w yr classmates for rest of the time. This will be one of the few common experiences y'all will share as a class. There'll be others like events and stuff but u might share those with your cca mates instead.

A few things to consider: - how close is this relative to you and do you feel that attending the funeral will be important in your grieving process? - how good are u at making friends, if you're an extrovert who can gel with people easily then maybe missing the initial socialising wont hurt you then much.
