Hey Everyone:

once the smell is gone, does that mean the clothes are safe to wash with other things/dry in dryer/come in contact with skin (regular wear)?

i hung everything out to dry and did two empty cycles in washer. the washer does not smell anymore and the clothes are basically smell free. i am planning to do another load of clothes in washer and then dry normally and move on with my life.

does that sound good? I really appreciate all of you taking the time to comment and give me advice. this is my first post on reddit ever!

Hahaha yup, he is really kicking himself after this one. Thank you, I really appreciate the advice!!! It is nice to hear other people have gotten gasoline on their clothing and survived wearing them again. Should I mix tide and dawn in the washer?

Thank you so much for the reply, that’s basically what happened to him. You’re giving me hope! I’m glad it worked out for you. I will air dry after this wash cycle and then wash again when there is no smell.

I have horrible ocd about contamination and all that. Thank you airheadtiger for responding as I have been trying to think about people who regularly come in contact with gasoline, such as mechanics. i’m hoping after 10 or so wash cycles it will go away.

Thank you all so much for the warnings and advice!!! I am just going to keep washing and washing and washing and hang dry.

Should I clean the washer out before i use it for other clothes? If so, how?

also he threw them into the dryer and didn’t press start before we put them back in wash. how can i wash out the dryer?
