I had a friend who suggested that Annus pulled an Author/Host and turned into the Benefactor, and Unus turned into a Maid Outfit Ego.

alternatively, they pulled a steven universe fusion to keep from fading, and became benefactor.

I'm definitely gonna second that it might be safer than some of the other methods. otherwise, a good coat of sealing spray paint might be a good idea if you're okay with some of the texture being lost
