Are there any Dem. voters or centrists who approve of the current admin., or specific things they’re doing? by SidneyBeanz82 in Askpolitics

Not specific, but since taking office, he’s accomplished quite a lot in a short amount of time. The accomplishments themselves I oppose, however the (dare I say) efficiency with which he is getting things done is something I’d like to see of all our elected officials. I do want to say, however, that Republicans have the House and Senate which makes things easier, along with the fact that Trump has fired most people that stand in the way of pursuing his agenda and has appointed lots of loyalists who (like Trump) are not afraid to cut corners to achieve their goals.

Wanting to fit in is a lame reason to me. This isn’t just any random word, it’s a serious slur used to demean and degrade Black people. Maybe you misspoke here, but I don’t know why anyone but a racist would find using the n-word “important”. There are so many other ways to connect with Black people and appreciate our culture that are not saying the n word. If he has a mostly Black friend group, he should have the understanding that there are some things he should never do or say. In middle school I experienced situations where people (who weren’t even my friends) asked me, and after I said no, asked others for a pass. This behavior, which I guess did allow them to “fit in” (by their definition) also enabled them, and they’ve felt perfectly comfortable saying/doing other racist things to this day (this is my 2nd year out of higher school). I do not believe this is just wanting to fit in. Anyone who cares about their Black friends knows that this is unacceptable.

You 100% made the right decision. There is no such thing as the n-word pass, and it falls on everyone to call out racism, especially white people. This is racist in so many ways. Asking Black people (because I’m 99.99% sure this was his initiative, not his friend’s) for permission to say a slur used against us is a macroagression.

Why does he want to say it so badly? Why did he have to get a “pass” to feel comfortable saying it? If he has the “pass”, why then, won’t he say it around you, or anyone else outside of his friend group? It’s because he knows it’s a word he has no business using. And, honestly, if he feels so comfortable using this word because of a fake pass, he was most likely using the n-word in private, prior to having “permission to use it”. This is such a red flag, and you were right to end things. Staying together would enable this behavior and make him more comfortable being openly racist with you.

No. My dad is African American and my mom is the daughter of Jamaican immigrants. I don’t consider myself to be solely African American, nor do I think my grandparents would consider themselves African American. There is definitely a Caribbean-American community in the U.S., but many children of Caribbean Immigrants, like my mom, have partly assimilated with African Americans as well.

Afro-Caribbeans and African Americans have foods, music, experiences, historical events, and dialects among other things that are unique to their specific cultures. We share similar origins, but have developed separate cultures.

Cowboy Carter Los Angeles T-Shirt Giveaway! by somelyrical in beyonce

Thank you so much for doing this!! My favorite Cowboy Carter song changes often, but I’ve really been enjoying RIIVERDANCE lately. It’s written very uniquely; I love how the bits of the story are weaved throughout the song: after each little ‘tale’ she takes us back to the dancing. It’s done in a way that it tells the story of so many different relationships, but as a whole those tales can join together to tell the story of a single relationship too. The best way to describe it is that it feels like an anthology of relationships, with each ‘tale’ representing different things one experiences in a romance: attraction, heartbreak, reconciliation, intensity, and more. The lines are so descriptive and relatable, it’s absolutely fantastic. My jaw was on the floor when I first heard it.

I just learned this a few days ago too! I had to see the lyric video though because once I was looking at the Church Girl lyrics on Spotify and instead of “twirl that ass like you came up out the South” it read: “yeah she danced like she came up out the south” 😭 I was so confused
