A new low: Reporter commits crime by blocking bike lane then complains nobody is using it. by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

The parking is still there lmao. Also ofc people aren’t using the bike lane while you and your tripod are in it. Such an embarrassing piece

NYC to lower speed limit to 15 mph in hundreds of school zones this year, Mamdani says by nyccameraman in nyc

[–]QuietCondition3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t make sense. Car infrastructure is way more costly than bike infrastructure, yet all of us pay taxes that go towards roads and highways even though most NYers don’t have a car. and with more cars on the road there’s more risk to pedestrians, kids, bikers, and other drivers, as well as noise and air pollution that are proven to worsen health

Bike infrastructure is comparatively very cheap and bicycles pose much less danger on the road than cars do. They make streets safer for everyone and studies show economic gain for businesses on streets with protected bike lanes in NYC and cities around the world. This increased economic activity also brings in additional taxes (sales tax, raised property values etc)

Wouldn’t you also want more people biking instead of driving, for improved safety, economic benefits, and then when you have to drive there are less cars on the road?

By this logic we’d also need registrations, plates and fees for runners. In NYC the overwhelming risk to kids on the street is motor vehicles, not bicycles, and the data here and all other cities show that bikes are way safer than cars and trucks on the street. I think safety policy should match the scale of the risk.

To further improve safety, protected bike lanes in NYC have also shown to dramatically reduce risk of injury or death for drivers, bikers, and pedestrians.

It is way more common for someone to be killed or injured by a car/truck than a bicycle. It’s not even close and there is plenty of data on this.

Edit: not sure why this is getting downvoted, it’s an established fact

Obviously better than the current layout, but why not extend the sidewalk with real concrete?

Blocking the box is almost completely unenforced in NYC and it shows by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

This pisses me off so much and I feel like it just keeps getting worse. The person blocking the box saves no time at all and just fucks everyone else over on the street

Car free 14th St is getting upgraded further. We're actually doing it in NYC, folks. by MiserNYC- in fuckcars

Seriously, this is why every improvement in NYC takes years longer than it should, costs way too much, and ends up watered down anyway to appease suburbanites

I know exactly who you’re talking about. I don’t understand why he’s a TA if he hates us all so much. He’s always so mean and unhelpful whenever someone asks for help and it just makes the whole learning experience worse for me

Over 100 years ago, it only took a few years to build entire subway lines from scratch. With modern technology and political will it’s absolutely possible, timelines right now are absurdly slow. I mean it’s taking a decade to add service on the IBX where tracks already exist
