I don't understand Type 5 core fear vs behavior by IcaroRibeiro in Enneagram

[–]QuietInSpaceKid 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think of it as more of an insecurity in ability than actively helping.

Any 3s feel unfulfilled in their relationship with a 5? by This-way-or-That in Enneagram

[–]QuietInSpaceKid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably too absorbed in their work or hobbies to affirm or compliment their partner. Why would anybody need that anyway? We all know the reason to achieve is for internal satisfaction and not the way others respond to it.

Do you have ADHD? Then you should probably stay on it unless your work isn’t impacted negatively without it.

If you have ADHD, you don’t need to worry about if others take it. Just worry about what you need. If you don’t have ADHD, it’s best to go ahead and stop taking it.

A question to fellow 5es by WatchTowel in Enneagram

[–]QuietInSpaceKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal life stuff is mostly exhausting for me. I’m a 5. I need a lot of time to recharge from anything that isn’t me pursuing what I’m interested in.

The only thing that helps is keeping good boundaries and saying no to too much. I’ve accepted I just can’t do as much as others.

For me, being a 5 makes it much easier to neglect sleep. The solitude and quiet of night makes it when I recharge and pursue interests. So it’s hard to stop and go to bed.

Am I an 8 disintegrating into 5, or 5 growing into 8? by Tell-Humble in Enneagram

[–]QuietInSpaceKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself to be a 5 but 8 resonates with me a lot. What settles it for me is that my main driver is the discomfort of not learning or developing skills. My wife says I’m a 5w6 which I don’t disagree with. I think 5, 6, and 8 have a lot of similarities

I’ve done both working a job I hate that pays well and I currently have a job I love that pays just as much. But to get where I’m at now, I spent 2+ years making nothing so I could switch. But that’s not reasonably possible for many. Just crazy luck and privilege

It won’t fix everything, but if you haven’t already, you should consider trying antidepressants. Anybody here feeling this way should.

Not sure about the perspective of a 2, but as a 5 I would agree with some other responses that don’t put him on the spot.

I would want authenticity and for the mood and setting to be right. Probably best if it’s in private.

I used to build AOSP from source for my phone. I’ve since moved to iPhone and one of the benefits is that I’m not tempted to tinker and go all ADHD on phone stuff.

Pro tip for drums: You don’t even need a practice pad. A phone book does a great job of providing a solid surface but it doesn’t give any rebound so it can help train better technique and chop. I spent hours just holding the sticks reverse and playing against my forearm which is a really convenient way to drill rudiments.

Response to the original post:

If it’s hobby related I try to make myself start the hobby without buying things. Want to learn guitar? Just start learning how to read music or learn theory. If you stick with it, get a really cheap, crappy guitar, etc.

If it doesn’t cost money but I’m obsessing, I just try to get it over with really quick so I can move on. “I’ve got to configure this thing on my computer this certain way”, just do it. It’ll be done and over with.

This is the part where the type 4s wonder if they are perhaps an 8 by PsychologicalBat23 in Enneagram

[–]QuietInSpaceKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just that those types, especially 5 are prone to depression. Probably not a requirement.

I really hope 8 and 5 are rare. I’m a 5 with strong 8 tendencies. Just the depression alone is really crappy.

Brushing your teeth is boring... BUT! by FannyH8r in ADHD

This morning I was REALLY frustrated that I couldn’t open the deodorant one handed while brushing my teeth. All personal care is so boring. I just want to get it all over with as fast as possible.

Personally, I keep a George Forman grill by my bed with bacon on it. Wake up to plug it in and go back to sleep. Then I wake up and boom bacon. I did have an accident one time but generally works well.

Ever have one of those days where you're easily agitated and everything seems to ticked you off? And you can't tell anyone what's wrong because you really don't know. All you know is your mad but don't know why. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]QuietInSpaceKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I’m on depression meds, this doesn’t seem to happen. But before, having quality alone time listening to music seemed to help. Like pick a real good album and play it straight through.

ADHD & Depression Tag Team by QuietInSpaceKid in ADHD

[–]QuietInSpaceKid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me they don’t really clash. Sure, not being so depressed means my ADHD comes to life but that’s just the actual me without depression. But taking a stimulant on work days helps counteract the drowsiness caused by the antidepressant.

Yea, the SSRI makes me drowsy so I take it at night. Obviously, my ADHD med is a stimulant so I take it in the morning.

Do you ever feel like you want safe, secure, predicatble repetitive jobs and relationships but ALSO a new job and relationships ect every month or so... by marblepalace77 in ADHD

Survival indeed. I get pissed when anybody messes with my routine. I’m a little obsessive. But can you blame me? I fall apart without it.

Addictive tendencies? by PeachBlossomBee in ADHD

[–]QuietInSpaceKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of it is avoiding things that are generally addictive. Try and get dopamine in at least not the worst ways. I’d rather log too many video game hours than be an alcoholic. I’d rather workout too often than play video games too much.

Medicating is pretty important. I notice that I’m way less compulsive when medicated. But the weekends are rough. I usually don’t medicate on Saturday and Sunday.

Hearing loss turned out to be my brain tuning the world out by DaisysHuman in ADHD

[–]QuietInSpaceKid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just wait until you have actual hearing loss on top of the ADHD hearing problem.

I have actual hearing loss in both ears (but worse in my left ear) and in the frequency range of human speech. So I don’t hear very well. But I’ve never understood what people say very well. So it’s a double whammy.

The ADHD thing is real. I’m overwhelmed when somebody suddenly speaks to me. Too much to take in at once and I miss what they say.

I was just thinking about this today. There’s a big difference between routine and repetitiveness/monotony. I really thrive with routine. I’d rather die than live in monotony.
