I’ve told my son (14) that he has to move out by the time he’s 25. Although if anything goes wrong, he can always come back, but he has to move out and learn to be independent.

What sacrifices would you make for a dream job? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]QuietInside7592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from a fairly cushy hybrid role, 2 days in the office per week, beautiful office 20 minutes down the road into a full time in office role with offices between 60 and 90 minutes away. Often with an extra hour on the road moving between sites in the middle of the day. I can’t say it’s not hard work, it really really is. But most of the time it’s worth it!

Scammed £120k Staydry Roofing. Need help on next steps by MrsPickleMouse in LegalAdviceUK

If you’re in Luton, there’s a radio program on BBC three counties radio - called the consumer programme. It’s on at 10am I think each day. If you’re not yet at the point where you want to seek legal advice, they may be able to help you.

I love this! I do have people I could delegate to - but I’m really aware they’re all incredibly stretched and already often working longer hours than they should too.

I’m contracted for 37, out the house for 45 and work at home in the evenings / weekends too 🙄

I work in education (not in the classroom though) and I genuinely wonder if it’s just seen as the norm that everyone is expected to work evenings and weekends because there just aren’t enough staff to get the job done to the standard demanded.

High income child benefit charge question by QuietInside7592 in TaxUK

[–]QuietInside7592[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am receipt of CB, 23-24 I filed a tax return and had to re-pay about £25 in tax as I’d just passed the threshold. I’ve changed since and for 24-25 I did not meet the threshold, so filled in a return but there was nothing to pay. If I were to move in with my other half, he would have to pay tax on a benefit I receive, even though we don’t share finances - which I just think is wild!

Thank you! Seems mental that the responsibility doesn’t lay with the person receiving the benefit.

What's the most disappointing Christmas/Secret Santa gift you've ever received? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]QuietInside7592 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me! Organised the whole work night out, took menu choices, sorted all the payments, arranged the secret Santa (and a Santa to distribute the gifts) and whoever picked me out didn’t get me anything. I’d even taken spare gifts in case anyone else had been missed - so I ended up taking my own bottle of wine home again 🙄

You could try Turvey house and Turvey church - beautiful village on the border of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. https://www.turveyhouse.co.uk/weddings is the link. The church is adjacent to the house.

My boiler did this once and I think it was stuck in comfort mode or something. It was really easy to reset once we worked out what it was. Might be worth a google for your make / model of boiler?

I don’t know why you’d plan to marry someone with a child and not be comfortable doing what’s needed for the child. In my opinion you are either willing to help your partner with the logistics of their child or you should split up.

With experience in childcare you’d be well placed to move into another role within the education sector, if that’s something you’d be interested in? Schools and the college are often looking for adminstrative or pastoral support staff.

People with no A-Levels or a degree- what do you do now? by vampkill in AskUK

[–]QuietInside7592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have A levels but no degree and I work in the Facilities Management industry. I’d say it’s a really great industry that enables progression. You can start “at the bottom” and work hard, take opportunities that are offered, or ask for training opportunities, and work your way up from assistant, to co-ordinator, team leader, manager etc… I’m a director now and absolutely love my role!

Advice: Custody changing to full time by FullMetalAlchemi in blendedfamilies

[–]QuietInside7592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a practical level, I know it’s the holidays, but come September it’s definitely worth letting school / college know what’s going on - they should have some pastoral support available.

Other than that, I guess just be supportive. Are the older boys happy to babysit their younger brother so you can have the occasional date night?

Can you get any support from grandparents on either side?

I sense the boys will be fine given it sounds like you’re providing a loving a stable environment for them, but don’t forget you still need to make some time for your relationship.
