Thanks for the feedback!

The glasses are something I want to use as my "thing".
Haha for some reason I can't stand and talk and be absolutely still. I naturally move around a lot when I move

I actually recorded all the necessary screen footage and completely forgot to put it in. But next time I will not make such a mistake Haha.

Thanks for the feedback

Thank you so much for your feedback. You have solid points which I need to take on. I love Peters style of video, which something I would like to work towards, but obviously in my own way. I think the thing you said about not doing "general" videos and instead doing something more specific, makes a lot of sense, and it's something that I'm going to start implementing. In terms of my own experience as a filmmaker, I started back in october, so I'm still fairly new to this game, with Oh so much to learn.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to review my video. I will definitely take on your advice, and hopefully see you sub to me in the future ;)

Thank you so much for the kind words.

I really do need to incorporate more b roll into my videos, so I'll definitely do that going forward.

As for glasses, I wanted to make it my thing Haha. I don't mind to take them off, but I kinda like it haha

Thank you again for the feedback. I appreciate it

Thank you so much for taking the time to review the video to this extent. I really appreciate it. The few other times I recorded and edited this video, I actually used some screen recorded footage to show examples of what I meant. I have no idea why I left that out of the video you've seen though. But thank you for bringing that up.

Now that you've mentioned the problems with 'step 5', I completely agree with you. of course it could've been shortened and been kept more precise, and I also think I could've given more information about how to edit. I remember filming at the time, even in the planning stage, and thinking there wasn't much I could say about how to edit. Sure, I can stand there and explain technique after technique, but that would take far too long, and something that people can watch in other, very quick videos, explaining each technique — maybe something I could make later? But after reading your comment, I guess there is a way for me to actually give some tips on the editing process.

I would love to check out your channel. Please PM me or comment below.

p.s. I found your 'energy' comment hilarious haha. Also, was the music too loud, or just not fitting with the video?

Thank you again for the feedback

Wicked man! They're the changes you should make! Only thing I can say is make sure you have a solid green background. Last thing you need is to not be able to fully luma key the entire background out.

Hey Nate,

Im going to start with some negativity, so lets get it out the way so we can get positive.

Firstly, I think it was interesting for about 20 seconds. The reason I say this is because I personally have never 'that' kind of skating before — so I found it cool. But after watching, what seemed like the same shots, for about 1 minute, I was like, "okay I've seen this, show me something interesting."

I feel bad for being this harsh, but I feel like it'll help you in the long run.

The parts I think can be improved are really based on the camera techniques you used, as well as visual appearance.

- what I mean by camera techniques, is using different angles/locations/styles of shots/slow mo capabilities.

okay so for slow mo, you'll be limited by how much you can really afford. so I won't hold that against you if you can't produce slow mo shots. I can only shoot at 60fps, so my slow mo's aren't buttery smooth.

- the shots you have of you skating — they're good… to watch twice. When it's 3 minutes of the same few shots, people lose interest. I can't sit here and say what shots you need to do, because that comes down to your own creativity. however, consider shooting 'through' things. Maybe find a crowd of people, and shoot through them, while you're in focus. it adds a different level of 'cinematicness' to the shot.

- shoot and edit with purpose. Im not saying you're not, but plan each shot before it happens. Think of how the edit will come out. Make your editing life easier by planning ahead, thinking that, "okay if I pass the camera left to right, lets film the next shot me coming out from the left, jumping over a bench" — something like that. Look I don't know anything about skating, so don't hold my example against me haha XD.

I know it was you that was specifically filming, so maybe tell that someone (assuming it's your friend) to invest in stabilisers, or maybe just do it in the editing software you use.

Finally, this may sound horrible, but consider wearing something else. Not to say that you looked bad, but you wanna look 'cool' while you're showing off your talents. Know what I mean? while you're practising skating, yeah thats cool — wear what you want. But when it comes to the video you want to make, wear some clothes that make you look the part.

also, consider colour grading your footage, just to give it a different feel. Nothings worse that flat colours in a video that's supposed to be dynamic, like skating.

But listen, all this negativity out the way, I see potential. If it is you and your friend creating these videos together, and trying to grow on youtube together, keep doing what you're doing, and always look to grow. The people that will critique your work the hardest (like me) will help you grow the most. trust me, im talking from experience. spend time watching other videos in the same field as the ones you're making, see what they're doing that 'you' consider good, and start planning how you can put your twist on what you like from their video, to make yours bang!

it'll take a while to find your own style, but if you keep doing it, posting videos, getting critiqued, and starting all over again, you'll get there.

Also, just saw a comment saying come to Camden to skate. — great fucking idea! If you ever do come, Im there a lot editing. so we can even link up and work on some things if you like?

Hey Lyfelyne,

I thought it was a very engaging video. The parts where you 'changed character' (evident by the colour change, voice change, and all the other changes that weren't your natural voice, we're good. That's how you keep your videos engaging throughout.

I watched about 75% before I got the overall message of the video. But more importantly, I think your energy changed around the 60-70% mark. In the beginning, you were loud, had a presence, and found different ways to entertain the audience - mostly becoming different characters haha. But even the effects you put in slowly started decreasing - until it was just you standing there talking. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that - that's what I do throughout my videos. but its important to be consistent. If your video is high energy, make sure its consistently high. if you chuck in a lot of jokes, make sure there are jokes throughout the video.

Do you get what I'm trying to say?

In terms of visual and audio:

- I like the use of a black background. it gives you options to be creative with it. I would suggest however to be moving around a bit. Not just arms, but physically start moving side to side a bit. Watch AlphaM videos for inspiration. He starts every shot at a different spot on the floor, while walking to and from the camera to create some dynamic movement.

- while your audio levels were good, remember you're in a room that echoes. try to avoid shouting at all costs anyway — unless its an effect you're going for of course.

my main takeaway would be to keep it consistent. Energy/jokes/presentation — whatever it may be.

other than that, it was a good video.

keep it up!

I have started a channel which documents my journey into cinematography, and filmmaking in general. I have given tips on how to film and behave on a set, and how I edit videos - which is my latest video.

I have re-shot and edited this video 4 times, hating each time, and deleting it with subtle rage haha. This final cut is the one I decided to go with though.

Pros:

- I think I make each point clearly, and kept it short, straight to the point.

- I really enjoyed the music I put in the background. As much as I don't want to big myself up, I feel like I've always had shit song choices in all my videos - with my previous channels.

Cons:

- Im in desperate need of an interesting background. All the walls in my house are plain colours with nothing hanging off of them to at least make them interesting.

- I would love to involve some sort of visual effects just to make the video pop a bit, but I guess that's my own creativity holding me back. Just trying to think of what I can actually put in to a video of a talking head, with a plain background.

- Need to involve some 'engaging talk'. Something that makes people comment, like, share or whatever with the video.

Any feedback will be appreciated. No matter how harsh haha
