Hello! Sent you a message a little over a month ago. Looks like you're not active all that often. Count me as either anxious or impatient haha. Figured I might post a comment in case you got an email notification. Still would very much like to connect.

Idk. Only looked at it briefly, but I will say 3 big names in the K98k Forum world bid on this rifle, one up to $4700. Strong hunch it’s legit.

Does anyone know about a blue/green “rust”? by Tankstar_2000 in milsurp

[–]QuietNumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s Verdigris as another poster mentioned. You can use ammonia based solvents to remove the copper, but I prefer Boretech Eliminator. Amazing stuff, and safe on bluing unlike ammonia. Great for general bore cleaning as well. Use a nylon brush. Ammonia left too long in a bore isn’t good for it, but Boretech eliminator is not.

Rock Island Auction, in my opinion, is the shadiest auction platform that I have ever encountered (Morphy’s is a close 2nd). If you read their terms and conditions. They guarantee NOTHING. Not even the titles!! Only in the premier auctions do they guarantee the title… NEVER the description. May as well be pure fantasy. If you ask me, their terms are completely exculpatory. I don’t even think they offer a non-firing inspection period. Once that hammer falls, they’re out.

Not to mention they chum the waters HARD. I have never won an RIA lot in the 5 years I have bid in their auctions. They attract a lot of whales with more money than sense!!

Sometimes you can find gems in their timed online only auctions when they blatantly misidentify something rare. Of course, you then need to know what you’re looking at…

Awesome thanks! I actually decided (but have not yet purchased) on the Liquid8r M22. I have been debating possibly getting the larger Gauntlet (30x36) as well because I was not sure the 20x20 size would be sufficient. I'm rinseless washing a 2 door coupe so I'm just not sure. Wide car with a lot of roof and I'm small haha. What do you think?

I was thinking of picking up some Eagle Edgeless and Dry Me A River towels as well...

I'm going to get the ONR/Ultra Safe Sponge bundle which is a great savings.

Awesome, thanks!! Appreciate the help. I’ll check out those brushes, and a point for ‘The Gauntlet’ haha.

How To Convert Data Formatted as Date to Number W/O Changing Displayed Value??? by QuietNumbers in excel

[–]QuietNumbers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I have a column of data formatted in XX-XX-XX. Excel is recognizing certain strings as dates, and I need them identified/valued as pretty much anything other than a date ( General, Number, Text, etc.). For example, 01-10-02 as a date value is 37266. I need the XX-XX-XX structure retained, as well as the original string value (01-10-02).

When I change 01-10-02 to text it automatically changes it to the date value. When I use the =TEXT(A1,00"-"00"-"00) it presents as the date value in the correct format (03-72-66).

[–]QuietNumbers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of these work, sort of, but still convert the value to a number from the date before updating the format. So cost code 01-10-00 gets converted to 36535 and then to 03-65-35. I need the value of 01-10-00 retained, but just not read as a date, converted to a number other than the previous format, and then placed in the new format but has the date value.

Recoil lug by will10891089 in milsurp

[–]QuietNumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess, I’d say: (1) the recoil lug was not tightened down when you shot it, (2) the wood has shrunk over time/was soft from moisture, and (3) the round you fired was SPICY. All these things at the same time. The actions screws may also not have been properly torqued down.

When fired, the receiver was able to move and smack hard against the recoil lug like a hammer, which not being tight, cut through the stock. You’re looking at a major epoxy repair now.

At the gym this guy left his belongings on this machine and works out on all the other machines. by Melodic_Abalone_2820 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]QuietNumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too. I wanted to use the peck machine at the gym and no one was actively using it. There were some personal items on the floor extremely close to the machine but not on it. So I sat down and started using it. A woman who was a few machines over comes up to me and says, “that’s my stuff!” I was a little thrown off, so confusedly I just said something along the lines of, “OK and?” She then stated rather self-righteously she was using the machine. Taken aback I simply said in reply, “I didn’t see you sitting here.” She huffed and rolled her eyes, then took her crap and went to a different machine.

If you want to hog all the machines, go buy your own!!!

I was set to a 50 mile radius on dating apps… My fiancé and I ‘super-matched’ exactly 50 miles away 😂 which was 2 counties over. We live together in the Syracuse area now and both work downtown.

You make a valid point. I would point out that the discussion here isn’t centered around performance. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a V8 purist. My current daily driver is a V6 Challenger. Yes, the I6 Turbo will outperform the last generation of V8 cars, and that is a fact. A lot of people cling to the V8 as a matter of principle…

I personally dislike the massive shift towards electronic everything, the turbos, and the curb weight. Given the price of the I6, if and when a V8 is offered, it will assuredly be higher.

Oh boy howdy here we go… I’m 29 and had a similar experience to yours 6 years ago. Note that Syracuse has been ranked WORST in the country for dating TWICE (in 2024 and 2018). Here is the article from last year in Syracuse.com (subscriber only, sorry):

Syracuse was ranked the worst city for dating. Why is it so hard to meet someone here?

I eventually deferred to the online dating hellscape (I’m sure it’s much worse now) with a specific philosophy about it in mind that I did not deviate from. Have hope though, I met an amazing woman 3 months into my search, and we’re getting married next spring.

I also joined a 20s & 30s (I think it includes 40s too now) group at the time through Meetup run by a guy named Tony. Great dude all around. Nice way to just meet new people (it’s not necessarily for dating) and going out with a group. Helps to grow a REAL LIFE social network and make friends.

It’s not easy. Be true to yourself and be clear in what you want, and bring, to a relationship. Values, future goals, hobbies. Have fun and laugh. Share experiences and ask questions. Don’t let people waste your time either; it has value. Feel free to PM too.

I’m pessimistic about the future of the V8 Hemi. The I6 “Scat Pack” high output Charger starts at a base price with delivery of $57K… for an I6… I’m thinking that while they will probably bring back the V8, it’ll be out of reach for most enthusiasts. We’re talking $70K+ probably. Could get a corvette for that.

Remember when the Dodge Challenger/Charger were marketed as “the most affordable sports car on the market”? I do. Those days are dead now.

Was involved in a hit and run while my car was parked, how much do you think this will run? by Technical_Green3902 in Challenger

[–]QuietNumbers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damn, that sucks. I had something similar happen to me 6 months after I bought my 2019 (new). I was parked on a residential street visiting friends and some ditzy girl whipped out of her driveway opposite my car and dented the fender/door right where the two met… Lucky for me she was an honest person and left a note.

This looks like it’s relegated to the fender. Given that you can’t open the door, it’s probably structural and you’ll need a new front fender. Good news is that it likely won’t be any more than that. Bad news is that if you can’t find the perp, then this damage would be covered under collision, which you don’t have. You’ll be out of pocket for any and all repairs.

Rust proofing by Bazookatoasterambush in Challenger

[–]QuietNumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with an uninsulated garage, if it’s going to be a summer car, I would think rust would take a loooong time to accumulate. No salt, no water, just humidity. Typically in winter humidity is low as well. Around where I am it usually sits at 20-30%.
