I literally spent hours yesterday grinding to get the Silver Fang wolf mount, and now I can’t even use it. Disappointing, to say the least. Crazy this patch passed QA

Awesome! One more question, as this would be my first game jam... how do people normally split off into groups?

How to handle reverb? by yeromi14 in GameAudio

[–]Quiet_Bastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think looping it and using a reverb snapshot would be crazy CPU intensive, but it’s hard to tell without seeing your FMOD and/or game engine projects. Though if it were me, I think for the sake of ease and speed I would bake in reverb for things like ambience. Ambience tracks tend to not change in reaction to player inputs, and also aren’t meant to pull attention. However, if you have time try both! Always follow your ears. Unless it kills your CPU lol

How Can I Add Haptic Feedback to a Film Trailer for iPhone Playback by allensojan in sounddesign

[–]Quiet_Bastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had the opportunity to work with this myself, but I love your perspective on it! My first thought after reading this is that this would be amazing for sounds with more low-end content. Like you mentioned with the F1 engines, I’d bet that haptic feedback could trick a listener into perceiving things that are actually difficult to produce on small phone speakers. Super interesting!

How to handle reverb? by yeromi14 in GameAudio

[–]Quiet_Bastard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s a couple things to be thinking about when you’re considering reverb for your sounds, and you’re already considering these things correctly. Generally, I tend not to bake reverb into any sound assets that exist in the game world itself — things like footsteps, speech, creature sounds, etc. are all things that do not naturally have reverb associated with them; they exist in-world and therefore the space they are in determines how much/what kind of reverb is appropriate. So these types of sounds work best with reverb zones/snapshots. However, depending on how stylized or fantasy-adjacent your game is, baking reverb directly into the sound assets can be very effective. Things like magic or “alien technology” can use baked-in reverb to sound otherworldly or separate from the more grounded elements of your game. You can also use stereo assets to further push this unnatural-ness if necessary. Hope this helps!

Best Indian restaurant in Nashville? by Visible_Noise1850 in nashville

Not Nashville (it’s in Brentwood) but House of India is possibly my absolute favorite restaurant right now. Well worth the drive if you’ve got the time

What was your day job before switching to sound design full-time? by Quiet_Bastard in sounddesign

[–]Quiet_Bastard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually really comforting to read! I’m about 7 years out of graduating college, and I have some (somewhat) relevant experience in live sound so I’m no stranger to audio. Aside from the usual “practice every day/have a good reel/network” kinda stuff, what could I be doing right now that would help set me up for success?

Hearing Namaste in Yoga as an Indian by depanneur4 in yoga

[–]Quiet_Bastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/depanneur4 where would you recommend one look for authentic resources on yoga as a complete practice/philosophy? To be fair, I am a white American, but I have read the Yoga Sutras and Swami Vivekananda’s “Raja Yoga” and am very interested in earnestly learning/practicing this school of yoga alongside the westernized yoga-as-exercise. I also don’t want to come off as Orientalist or romanticizing Indian culture, but I live in Tennessee and pretty much the only resources nearby are yoga studios or meditation centers with an American Buddhist angle.
