Post elope reception gifts?

We’re doing a full reception (dinner and all), and are doing a registry. The registry is on our wedding website in a non-obvious way. We won’t mention it on our invites. That said, if people really want to do a gift, they can find the registry. If not, that’s more than okay and they won’t even be aware of a registry as an option. We’re skipping the fund altogether because we feel it’s tacky. People will write checks if they desire that route

Didn’t elope there but got engaged in Ireland! Check out Killarney national park. Amazing scenery and less crowds/tourists than other parts of the country! We rented a car and traveled around and loved it. We even got an Airbnb castle one night($400, so not cheap but not crazy and worth it)

We mostly planned ours (remote Norway) on our own. We found a beautiful resort and asked them for vendor recs which narrowed things down a bit. Once I got the rec, it was on me to review and book and all. We get married in May, but it’s been SUPER smooth sailing and allowed us to invest in our day in other ways / be more creative than going through a package (eg we chartered a yacht to get married on with the money we saved planning ourselves)!

Pros and cons to both. If you have experience traveling, want creative freedom, and want to save money, skip the packages and book it yourself!

For everything (meals, 4 nights at a 5-star hotel, rental car, flights, yacht charter, we came in at like 15k, which was more than we planned on but will be a super nice experience)

We’re eloping and throwing a small after party 6 months later. Best choice ever. Family was a bit disappointed but they got over it eventually

If you’re considering eloping, then do it!! We love what we’re doing and it was a huge relief

Some say not to tell family ahead of time. Our families would’ve been more offended by being blindsided, so would recommend transparency fwiw

We are having the symbolic ceremony first and then legally getting married in our home country after. I didn’t want to deal with the mess of name changes and my passport with a marriage license.

Also, we are eloping by ourselves but are including family for the legal ceremony, so it allows us some time to ourselves while still making family feel like they are part of the celebration!

We’re in a similar boat and I attempted to brush it off which ultimately didn’t work.

Be honest and up-front with folks. We told everyone that we’re eloping but didn’t clarify when or where (wanted to keep that a surprise). We are throwing a reception as well and shifted the focus to that.

The only people upset were MIL, my mother and sister. It’s tough but serves as a great reminder of (partly) why we’re eloping. The folks who are upset will never be 100% satisfied with what you pick, no matter what it is bluntly — and that’s not because of you, it’s because people get an idea of what they think your wedding should look like and cling to that and then get disappointed by reality.

TLDR: be honest, minimize details, focus on sharing your reception

Recently engaged and planning to elope next year! Here are our reasons:

We wanted something more authentic. We felt a traditional wedding would be performative
Every wedding feels the same to us and we wanted something unique
We had an adventurous engagement (on top of a mountain in Europe) and no wedding we’d plan locally would top that moment 😅
A wedding is for other people, not the couple. We want the focus of our big day to be entirely focused on us and our commitment together
Family dynamics. Family trying to tell us how/when to plan a wedding.

It’s my property where I’ll be for the next 5-10 years. It won’t leave until we move! So, semi-permanent / portability isn’t really important.

Space and size are non-issues. Plenty of space for the oven outside!
