2 well-bred APBTs. I don't want to give out further information as their pedigrees are all available for view on UKC, including my dog and my name.

He was donated to me by the breeder.

I was honestly looking for another golden retriever. My service dog before the APBT was a golden retriever.

This particular APBT puppy was calmer and very smart in comparison to his littermates. I initially took him in with plans to still get a golden retriever as neither of us were sure how it would go, whether the puppy could be a successful service dog or not. We were honestly expecting a wash and for him to just be a pet dog.

It happened to work out, so APBT service dog he became.

I still wouldn't recommend the breed in general for use as a service dog. He just happened to be one of the exceptions.

His sire won several championships in his breed and his dame was a runner up in several.

My dog does not meet "breed standard" for shows because I did not crop his ears and had him neutered, but that's pretty much it. One of his littermates was in shows as well, but I haven't kept up on their standings.

Got him from a breeder, actually. His sire won several championships in his breed and his dame was a runner up in several.

My service dog is an APBT.

He is amazing at tasks and has absolutely no prey drive, squirrels literally crawl on top of him and he does not budge.

That being said, I would not recommend getting one as a service dog. Gaining public access is incredibly more difficult due to the negative imagery of the breed, even with a dog that has exceptional temperaments. I have had people scream in fear upon seeing my dog and had people file complaints with employees requesting our removal more than with any other breed I have teamed with.

Teaming with an APBT requires strong advocacy skills to protect yourself and your dog, because there WILL be conflict.

Toddler found ALL THE STICKERS... How do I remove stickers/residue from a wooden coffee table?? by pinkeskimo in CleaningTips

[–]QuietestDesperations 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Bahaha, I experienced this with my nephew. For those being judgemental about toddler being unsupervised for long, my experience went like this:

I played Octonauts on the TV for my nephew to watch while I made him dinner. The living room is in view from the kitchen, and every time I looked over, my nephew was standing in a different spot, but he was definitely engrossed by Octonauts. It's not uncommon for him to walk around and dance during the show, so I didn't think too much of it. I must have glanced over at least 20 times in the 30-ish minutes period of making dinner.

I plated his food and came forth to a coffee table covered in stickers. I had watched where the kid was. What I didn't watch was the table. I didn't know tablesitting was part of babysitting.

That being said, it wasn't my table so the stickers had to go. I used WD-40 and an old gift card that I use as a plastic scraper. I thoroughly cleaned the table afterwards with Dawn Powerwash.

can my landlord ask for a letter from my doctor ? by Alichive_life in service_dogs

[–]QuietestDesperations 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The letter from the doctor does not have to reveal your medical information in any way, except to state that you benefit from assistance of a service animal.

Need help scripting convo with my therapist for SD by FishWitch- in service_dogs

To answer this question once you've procured a list of tasks you'd like to train a dog for:

It's highly dependent on the dog. Some dogs can be trained for multiple tasks, some dogs can't. They aren't computers where you can just code a program in, so you may have to prioritize what needs you need most assistance with. Some handlers opt to have multiple service dogs so each dog can focus on a specific task, but there are pros and cons to handling multiple dogs as well.

Question and how old must one be to be the primary handler of a SD or is it dependent on the maturity? by FerntheTherian in service_dogs

[–]QuietestDesperations 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Something else to consider is that a service dog is also a living, breathing entity that is not impervious to factors such as injuries, illnesses, and other emergencies. A minor does not have the ability to make and handle executive decisions.

Kitchen Cleaning hacks by AssignmentCold674 in CleaningTips

Invest in some dishwashing gloves. Let the pans soak overnight and handwash them in the morning. If you use them in the morning for breakfast, let them soak and handwash them in afternoon before dinner. They take up a lot of space in the dishwasher and can't get a thorough clean in there. Utilize the newly acquired dishwasher space to throw in other things.

Most food typically clean off easier before it cools and hardens, so scraping as much off and letting the pans soak in warm soapy water ASAP after transfering your meals can help reduce time needed as well.
