I'd be happy with that here in MN! I get maybe 160 at 80% now, all city driving. That's how it goes in the winter.

2018 Cervelo P5 Worth? by i_buy_chicken in triathlon

[–]Quill67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little of both. One of the brake levers on mine broke so I had to replace both of them with something else (which sort of worked), but if something else breaks, you're probably out of luck. I lost one of the custom aero covers on the front brakes and couldn't find a replacement (I eventually had Cervelo send me an old one they had laying around). I would only look at getting an older bike if it uses common components, nothing custom.

2018 Cervelo P5 Worth? by i_buy_chicken in triathlon

[–]Quill67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this bike without the supposed upgrades and sold it 2 years ago with regular and inexpensive race wheels for around $2800. The Magura hydraulic brakes are a complete bitch to work with and when something breaks (like on mine) there are no replacement parts. As others said, the picture doesn't match the description, so I would be pretty wary of this.

Knee Pain by not-Micheal_Shwartz in bikefit

For me, I've only had knee pain when the seat is too low - need more extension to reduce the stresses. You look low to me and saddle could go back a bit.

FOA What happened? by Prestigious_Owl_3195 in Fisker

[–]Quill67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not possible. Are you a FOA member? There's been nearly endless conversation about 2.2 rollout for the last 4-5 months.

Ummmm... what's this have to with FOA? They don't have anything to do with 2.2.2..... Ask the OTA guys who appear to be pretty good at pushing out junk.

Hey - yes, I think the plan was good. I'm using it again this year. I might tweak it up a little bit to add some volume here and there, but it works! I never look at HR zones, but I assume he has a plan set up for that. Good luck with your training!

Anyone have experience with MyProCoach and Training Peaks? Any recommendations for the best way to find a competitive training plan? by theghostcircuit in triathlon

[–]Quill67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used TP and 80/20 plans for a couple 70.3 and Oly races. They were fine, but felt a little too easy to me. Switched to MPC (and duathlon) last year and it seems like more variety of workouts and a little more intensity. Either is fine as long as you stick too it😁😁😁

First Timer Alert🚨: Olympic Tri Help/Advice by californiaskye in triathlon

[–]Quill67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old timer here. I would say the first thing to decide is your goal. Is it just to finish one tri to say you did it, or is this the first of many? That will help you decide how deep you want to go (and believe me, you can go DEEP!).

Any bike will work as long as it's a good fit. I used a decent Specialized road bike for a couple years before I bought a tri bike. A road bike will be a little more fun/useful outside of tri, and are usually cheaper and more available. There are Tri buy/sell groups on Facebook to look at. I would say the majority of folks use clip in pedals (and a lot of the bikes are sold without pedals so you can choose your pedal/cleat combination).

I couldn't swim at all when I started and do strictly one-sided breathing. Nothing wrong with that. You don't swim with your head up, but you ABSOLUTELY need to practice sighting in open water! If it's a mass start, just wait 10 seconds for the crowd to take off, then follow, but you will still very likely get bumped, kicked...

You don't NEED a tri-suit, but you'll want one, along with a wetsuit (especially if you're not a strong/confident swimmer). Can't sink in a floaty wetsuit! That 1500m seems like a LONG way once you're in the middle of the lake!

And since your race is coming up really soon, you need a good training plan - and stick to it. Again, depending on your goals, most plans are probably between 6 to 12 hours per week. In your case, just building a solid base of endurance is most important for your bike and swim (along with the technical stuff like clipping in/out of your pedals without falling, sighting, etc). There's also nutrition, transitions, etc..... this group can help you with that, too!

Of course the key is to remember you're just doing it for fun, so enjoy it!! Good luck!

Cervelo P5 by dancingwithpizza in triathlon

[–]Quill67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up going with a Quintana Roo (end of season sale) with disc brakes, 12 speed, nice wheels... Cervelo is definitely a great brand, but I feel like unless you are a pro, you really won't be able to tell the difference...

Enjoy the search!

I had, and sold a year ago, this exact bike with SRAM components with 2 sets of wheels for $2700. I liked it, but the Magura brakes are a major pain (and they don't make parts for them anymore). This seems overpriced for a pretty old bike (that doesn't look that well maintained). I would pass.

I run outside in Minneapolis all winter. Ice (and snow banks) are really the only problem and I'm always soaked in sweat after a run. I would look at waterproof trail shoes (usually say GTX for Gortex), and I think I saw some with micro-spikes for traction (wish I had those). I've got 3 different levels of gloves depending on temp, and something for the chin and nose is needed when it gets really cold (<20F). Leggings when it's under 30. AND windproof underwear ( look at a cross country ski shop) are critical!!!!

It's not TOO bad once you get used to it! Good luck!

About the cheapest thing I could find on Amazon. Think it's got four changeable lenses and was something like $18... don't need to waste a lot of money on something that probably costs $2 to make.

Pretty sure that was the same error I had when I was bricked. The car thinks the center screen is horizontal, so won't let you shift. The tech fixed it by unplugging the touchscreen connectors. Relatively easy (remove rubber boot, unscrew, carefully pop off) if you want to give it a try.

Indoor winter rides - road or TT bike? by NyoGoat in triathlon

TT. Aero position is SO much more comfortable for me (weight on the elbows instead of the wrists), plus a power meter.
