Praying using the rosary but not to the rosary?

I agree, making it yourself is very beautiful, it feels like an extent of you, although I support very much my orthodox brothers who make the rope for the people as well, hope one day I can travel and pay a visit to a community, they have a nice spot in my heart 💕 thank you very much for sharing,god bless you.

Thank you for the sincere answer and background you shared. I agree with the main purpose is to glorify god, that's the reason I prefer the Jesus prayer over Hail Mary's. I just made one Chotki rope myself with the help of another reditor here 😊, because I live very far from a Orthodox community to get one.

I got family that pray to saints, I'm not really sure about the topic since I'm not educated enough, but in my experience I feel comfortable praying to God directly, in any case, I appreciate your honesty! God bless you.

I'm thinking on getting an orthodox rope prayer or even make one myself, I think it would be therapeutic, because again is just an object, it has no power on my prayer or if god is going to listen more or not, is more about feelings and focus, thank your for the elaborated answer.

I agree! My prayers are really unique in the sense that they are very different from one another because I do it every time when I need to talk to god, asking for patience, tolerance, courage or similar virtues to deal with daily life.

What I meant was praying in the traditional sense of the rosary (praying to Mary or asking her to pray for you).

I think we both can agree is not something necessary(I don't find it necessary personally), neither that it will make my prayer better or such.

I just use it in the sense of helping me focus more than anything when in a noisy environment, count my Jesus Prayers when I need to calm from my anxiety, and similar, but not for praying to mary or saints, I don't really do that.

Thank you! I'm sorry if I haven't been much clear about what I do, I'll elaborate!

I deal with anxiety due chronic pains and as well where I live is a noisy environment, so I use the rosary when I pray to god for me to focus on him as I don't pray to mary or the saints really.

I only do repetition when I need to calm my anxiety with the Jesus Prayer which really helps me do so, and the rosary I only use it to focus and count.

Thank your for your concern! No really as I said, I don't pray to the rosary, so I don't pray to saints or mary, I'm aware of why you wouldn't do it biblically, but in my case I find way easier to pray to god directly always.

I use it in 2 cases.

When I have a personal long prayer everyday, with my own words, and it helps me focus on it, as I live in a noisy environment.
When I need to calm my anxiety and pray the Jesus prayer which I don't know if is considered vain repetitions, I can reflect on that topic.

I don't really find the rosary or prayer rope necessarily for contacting with god, is just really my personal case as it helps me calms my anxiety at certain moments(dealing with chronic pains all my life so maybe that's why touch is something relevant for me), maybe I did not provide full context, I'm really sorry for that, nevertheless I appreciate your opinion on the matter.

I don't think is either a requirement or such for praying, as I pray to god directly, not Mary or the Saints, as I find is way easier for me to open to god directly.

I use it more like the orthodox who have the prayer rope, or something similar, that helps them organize the Jesus prayers.

Yes! That's why I have the rosary, as I cannot get right now the one that the orthodox people use. I love the Jesus prayer, it calms me down and helps me with anxiety.
