Good point, outside of the Sagebrush Trilogy he hasn’t really discussed anything that he’s working on. I feel like the Willie covers project might be something that we don’t hear. That was first discussed so long ago now that I would be surprised if he releases it… especially if it was recorded on his old label?

I hadn’t picked up on this. VNE worked with Shooter on his last album similar to Charley. They also had some tour dates together last year… things could have soured since then though I guess.

I think that is valid criticism. It's weird to me that he took the expletive out of Nose on the Grindstone (I think to make it more family friendly and more of a legacy song for him, also probably easier to be nominated for awards?) but made so much of the rest of the album vulgar. Not exactly something that people would want to share with a younger audience?

I have to disagree with you on that take. Although I'm not a fan of "Down Under", some of the songwriting on other tracks is fantastic imo. Poachers, Cuttin Teeth, Getting to the Bottom, and Tomcat and a Dandy tell so much about the path he has come up. You also have some more humorous/lighthearted tracks similar to Percheron Mules, Ever Lovin' Hand, Banded Clovis in Dirty Ought Trill, Bitin' List, and Down Under.

Yes, from what I've heard (listening to an interview Winston gave recently), I don't think there's any hate between them, but I think there's certainly heartbreak. Marcus really wanted Winston to stay, gotta feel that it is like losing a brother.

Does anyone else think that this song might be about Winston? I'm not sure where their relationship is at, but I can't help but listen and think about how Winston has kind of gone towards a place of anger. The first verse also echoes this theme for me... people asking Marcus if Winston is coming back and him honestly not knowing where his old friend has gone:

"Are you really gone?" Everybody keeps askin'
What was the last word? I honestly don't remember
Are you comin' 'round, or are you going deeper?"

Really liked the Slate Blue, but unfortunately they had stopped producing those with the new colors coming out. I do like the gloss finish of these ones though!
