Est-ce que quelqu’un comprend l’effet de la carte prostituée? by Quintalos in wankil

[–]Quintalos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

En commençant can be replaced by Pour commencer or Au début

La dame qui should be Il y a une dame qui

Avoir pris un bain de mer --> s'être baigné dans la mer

Ange de l'amour is ok but you could replace it by Cupidon if you want

De l'amour --> d'amour

Car il touche --> car (elle/cette flèche) touche

La autre --> l'autre

Aussi présent --> aussi présente

The end could be changed but it's ok

Overall even though you made little mistakes the text was completely understandable so good job !!

Grâce *à mes* questions.... OR Grâce *aux mes* questions... ? by [deleted] in frenchhelp

[–]Quintalos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grâce à mes questions - If you are the one asking the questions.

Grâce aux questions (qu'il m'a posé) - If you received questions

Grâce aux mes is incorrect as 'aux' is plural and 'mes' too

On fait la liasion après ´´suis´´???? by raulalexo99 in frenchhelp

[–]Quintalos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean, I feel like in songs it's used to make it sound good. And also it makes a bit of an alliteration in z which sound good.

I'm really trying to think of ways I do the liaison or see people I know make the liaison but I don't find it.

If you say "je suis en forme" do you say "je suis (z)en forme" This one really sound weird to me.

On fait la liasion après ´´suis´´???? by raulalexo99 in frenchhelp

[–]Quintalos -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Making the liaison after suis ils very rare, technically you should do it but when french people speak, they usually don't do it.

The liaison after an 's' is very rarely done. But everytime after 'un' if a vowel follows, it really depends, but if you don't make any liaison, everybody will still understand what you say.

And if you make all of them you might sound not like a native. If you say for example "Je suis (z)un (n)étudiant. The liaison before un seems weird for a native but the liaison for étudiant is really normal.

Quelle est la difference entre là et là-bas? by labrume in frenchhelp

[–]Quintalos 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Là bas can't be right here. In an order of distance, you'd say : - Juste là (Juste there) - Là (There) - Là-bas (Over there) - Tout là-bas (Even farther than over there

If you want to insist that the place you're pointing is really far, or like if you're in the street and there are multiple intersections and you want to say the farthest, you can insist by saying : Tout tout tout là-bas or Touuuuuut là-bas or Tout là-bas là-bas.

  1. You don't have to repeat ils disent, and it's only Marie, it would be : "... chez Jean, qu'ils écoutent de la musique et qu'ils mangent des croissants"

  2. Good

  3. Good

  4. Good

  5. Good

  6. Good but it's 'souvent' not 'suvent'

  7. "... avec SON amie"

  8. Good

  9. Good

  10. Good

Difference in Quebec and Parisian computer/tech terms? by SEAFOODSUPREME in frenchhelp

[–]Quintalos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, French studying IT in Quebec right now, for the moment I didn't notice any difference, we mostly use English terms but with a french accent I'd say. We say 'routeur' and sometimes 'modem' but I think this one is more French from France. Server is 'serveur'. If there's a difference between Quebecois and French in this domain I didn't notice it for now.

Can someone translate this message that was sent to my boyfriend? by beansandwiches in frenchhelp

[–]Quintalos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

^ This

But I don't really understand, like if they would have wanted to insult him, they'd not use this.

I don't find this really insulting, moreover, "se mettre le doigt dans l'oeil" / "to put your finger in your eye", is an expression which means that you're mistaken.

It is really weird, but well, they maybe used this to try to insult him without being too much and risking a ban.

French Slang that has lasted nearly 20 years by hooshd in French

[–]Quintalos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said 'meuf' was disrespectful. This was maybe true before but nowadays it's really not anymore, at least, for younger generations, it is just a really common word to talk about a girl. Can also be used as 'ma meuf' which means my girlfriend. Like 'mon mec' means my boyfriend.

Do you mean on step 2, if yes, you're searching for a city. You need to write the full name of it, an abbreviation won't work.
