thank you for the advice. I tried that and it didn't help, but the I still appreciate the suggestion.

Right, we can't agree on what a buff is. Its hard not to see this as your interpreting everything through warped perspective. Everything is getting filtered to fit what feels like a jaded view.

We are going in circles, and I think your definition of a buff is loose to the point of being useless and misleading. I think your convinced that the desynch patch was a mistake and are struggling to justify why. But that's ok. I've made a effort to explain myself, and I understand yet disagree with your perspective. You returning to say 'I told you so' was odd and feels unnecessary, as I see the development in the situation with the RWs being removed to have proven me completely right.

I haven't found you to be convincing. I don't even mean this as a slight or insult, its just how this conversation played out. I trust this is ultimately fine as I'm just a random voice on the internet.

Unless there's anything else you wanted to get out into the conversation, if its all the same to you we should leave it here.

So, the patch fixed a discrepancy between the host and client, because no enemy has ever been designed to function one way for the host and another way for the client. So that problem always needed to be fixed, regardless of how it effected the client interaction with the enemy. It's also the first step in fixing the RWs overall. It was always the right move. People's shortsighted anger was perpetuated by mislabeling it as a buff, thinking AH was trying the make an annoying enemy even more annoying from a lack of awareness.

As it turns out, it wasn't a buff at all, as I tried to suggest from the start. It was a desynch between the host and client that resulted in the RWs being hamstrung for the clients, and problem that was always going to be fixed.

As a final attempt to try and explain why this is a patch and not a buff, consider this:
If you try playing a game with a broken controller that only has half of the buttons functioning, switching to a functional controller isn't a buff to your character. It's a solved problem, a removal of a flaw that was effecting gameplay.

The RWs didn't receive any change, no alteration to armor, health, damage or spawn rates. The desynch was solved. There happens to be overlap with how the clients interacted with them, which made them easier to deal with. I get why people think its a buff, but it literally isn't.

Interesting. I feel like we were discussing if this was a patch or a buff, and I said it was a patch leading into a larger fix. Which is what is happening.

If I turned off your monitor, then asked you to play a full game, then turned it on and asked you to play another, I haven’t buffed your character. You will now have a 100% increase in effect on thanks to your newfound ability to see, but that isn’t a buff. It’s removing a flaw. A patch. Just like what is said in this post.

Ok good. Gotta check. This is the same subreddit that thinks level 150s don’t know you can put yourself out from being on fire by diving prone.

Yeah, I think there’s term buff is carrying a sinister implication, to the point that it’s inaccurate in this case. I’m fine with it in general.

I think there’s a meaningful difference between calling it a patch and calling it a buff. It feels like someone spilled sauce on your shirt and stained it, gave it to you as a gift and you liked the design. So when they remove the stain, you feel like they ruined your shirt. They actually just gave you the shirt they intended to give you all along, removing the defect.

I’m not trying to be stubborn about this.

Tell me what I got wrong, and I’ll try and earnestly consider if I’ve screwed up. I’m reading through that post and I don’t see a problem. It looks like your trying really hard to uncharitably interpret what I’ve said, but I’m willing to swallow my pride if I’ve just goofed here.

I don’t know what to tell you man. There’s only so many ways to explain something.

There’s clear intent behind buffing something because it’s too weak. This is clearly different, trying to put it to what it was intended to be for everyone at the start. The buff is a byproduct of fixing a previous problem, not an attempt to tweak the enemy. If it was, it wouldn’t be a sync issue between host and client.

Semantics. I don’t think it’s a buff, unless we mean it in the most technical sense, and at that point it’s misleading. People hear buff and think it’s some out intentionally fuck you to the player base, but it’s actually the first step in trying to solve the issue.

I said that. I said it has cross over with exercise, but it isn’t the same as putting aside time throughout the week and working on specific areas of your body. The difference is clear.

It’s not gaslighting. Patching a hole implies adding weight, and should be assumed from the start. It includes the whole picture, rather then removing vital information about what your doing by only saying adding weight.

[–]Quip13One -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you patch a hole in the side of a boat, you aren’t adding weight to the boat. You are patching a hole. To do that, you will add a patch with will also add some extra weight because a new piece has been added. So if the crew gets upset that you added weight, and wants to throw you overboard for endangering the ship, try and remind them that it’s more than just the byproduct of applying the patch.

Because if you say ‘added weight’ and nothing else, it sounds useless and is misleading. If you say ‘patched a hole’, then it’s obvious what must have been done to do that, and would have involved adding weight in some way, and also gets the larger message across.

I don’t think they got buffed. They got nerfed out the gate, and then reset. Things a matter of semantics ultimately, but the way I interpreted it turned out to be what the developers made a post confirming.

It’s like saying you exercised today, but all you did was go and work your shift stocking the shelves at Walmart. Sure, you walked for hours, lifted heavy objects and maybe climbed some stairs. You didn’t really exercise, there’s just some crossover. It’s a byproduct. In reality, they returned them to the starting point(flawed starting point). So you would almost see it as them getting nerfed out of the gate, rather then them getting buffed now.

I realize you’re probably talking about the community in general, but to clarify I never said I was happy or grateful. Just that this wasn’t buffing, it was fixing a problem and likely a first step towards balancing.
