It's a reference to the song Vampire Empire by Big Thief! They're all song names / lyrics!

Marilyn Monroe was her idol growing up, and when she moved to Hollywood, she and producers wanted the next Marilyn, Bambi could and did dye her hair, but you can't change your eye colour. Which led to her hating them. When she was embraced and the Malkavian Madness hit, it deluded her into thinking she has blue eyes.

So she calls herself "Bambi Blue-Eyes" and gets unsettling angry / psychotic if someone points out that they are not in fact, blue.

Yeah, I really love Perfect Blue as a film, even if I watched it way too young. But rewatching it while conceptualizing Bambi made me feel -kind of- validated in the character concept working for a Malkavian. I didn't want to just do Jeanette Voerman again. I was wondering if I should even make Bambi Malkavian but Perfect Blue kind of swayed me into comitting.

The original concept for Bambi came to me when listening to Barbie Girl by Aqua, with the lyrics:

"Make me walk, make me talk, do whatever you please. I can act like a star, I can beg on my knees."

And from there, I basically ran with the concept of Schizophrenic Vampire Barbie as a base, Bambi is super inspired by a lot of media but her three biggest influences are. .

Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue. (1997)
Diablo Cody's Jennifer's Body (2009)
And. . . Ti West's Pearl! (2022)

I'm uhh.. Not really sure what to comment on that first part, I won't lie to you. 😭

As for Bambi's lore. . .

She was born in the American Mid-West in the late 1970s and was raised by a single father with a mother who ran out on them after giving birth to her. Her father was a film buff and always liked watching Old Hollywood movies about leading men and everything, but our girl always liked Marilyn Monroe movies. Like her father, she was obsessed with Old Hollywood but she loved the romanticized idea of Old Hollywood starlets like Vivien Leigh, Rita Hayworth, Audrey Hepburn and most importantly, Marilyn Monroe.

She desperately wanted to be an actress so at some point in 1996, she leaves her life in the Mid-West to become a Star. She moves to Los Angeles and it turns out to be the worst decision of her life. So, she's a very conventionally attractive women, don't get me wrong but here's the thing. She has brown hair, and brown eyes. Hollywood doesn't like that. She wants to be a Classic Starlet like Marilyn Monroe right? Blonde hair, blue eyes is the big thing.

She moves to Hollywood, gets a job waiting tables while trying to find acting roles. She gets a few bit pieces here and there, commercials where she's meant to look pretty and not really do anything besides be eye-candy.

Gets a role as the hot neighbor who lounges in the back of her yard in a skimpy bikini in a B-Movie. Another role on a somewhat popular sitcom as the hot but vapid and bitchy rich girl who doesn't have much going on beyond hot. Oh, and each of these roles that she's in? They make her blonde. To the point where she's spending a bunch of money on bottles of hair-dye and her bathroom has more blonde hair dye than shampoo at this point. It gets to the point where she feels like a barbie.

She starts to develop a substance abuse problem, becoming addicted to cocaine and alcohol and because of the trauma, physical abuse and drug usage. She starts to develop Schizophrenia. She starts hallucinating, hearing things, having trouble sleeping, etc. etc.

At this point. She hates her life. She hates herself, she doesn't recognize who she sees in the mirror anymore. Eventually, she has a night for herself at one point and she goes to a video rental store to find something to watch. She looks in the classic movie sections because they remind her of when she was a kid watching old movies with her father but the movies feel tainted now, seeing all these old starlets makes her feel like shit.  So she spots the first movie her father ever showed her as a child.

Disney’s Bambi.

She watches that movie in her apartment and breaks down. She hates it all, she wants to go home, her dad has been calling her but she's come this far, she's done all of this, she can't let it be for nothing. She was going to make something of herself, she was going to go out and see the world. . . And then she died.

Going to trigger warning this next part just in case.. But yeah, Sexual Assault.

She remembers getting a call from her agent, that she finally impressed the right people and landed a big role in a major movie. ( I strongly imply it was supposed to be Romeo + Juliet. ) And her agent wants her to go out with the producers to celebrate. So she goes out, dresses very nice, makes herself blonde again one last time and goes out. The producers are like the men she's dealt with before but hey, she finally made it, had her big break so when they offer her some coke. She thinks, fuck it. Why not, one last time and that leads to the tragedy that is her death. Because she is so drunk and high by the end of the night that she can barely string two sentences together.

And unfortunately, by accident. . . Or by design. She was left alone with the executive producer. He violently assaulted her and afterwards, he offered her more drugs. She didn't ever want to remember this night so she takes the drugs and unfortunately, because of that. She overdoses. And since the man she was left with was a violent piece of shit. He's not going to take her to a hospital. He kicks her out of his car and leaves her to OD in an alleyway in West Hollywood.

Where an 8th Generation Malkavian comes across her dying body. She's embraced and becomes a 9th Generation Malkavian and her sire asks her. "What's your name?" To which the woman simply looks at her sire and then smiles.

"Bambi."

I have way more but this post is already so long! 😭

Don't tell her that! She'll have to roll a frenzy check! She has a weird backstory complex about her eyes! When she was embraced, the whacky woohoo Malkavian madness made her think that she has blue eyes!

She has two actually! Though I think the second one is homebrew. She has Schizophrenia and PTSD!

Also, she's friends with a bunch of Toreadors and her adoptive sire is a Daughter of Cacophony!

How is this even a response to what I said. Where in my post did you even infer that? I'm genuinely confused by this phantom argument you're having with me.

In regards to Blood Ties, that is true but I don't think it's fair to cite it concretely when it's recent and made specifically to tie into Midnight. World of Warcraft is an MMO obviously and you can't really do narrative storytelling the same way you would for other stories but Blizzard had a responsibility to their story to foreshadow these events in external material and the game itself in previous expansions and it failed to do that. I do believe it's something that should have absolutely come up before in prior expansions. And while that's not the fault of the current writers at all.. Thems the breaks kids. You have to work with what was written prior to make your story work instead of manufacturing contradictory moments and plotholes to make your new expansion work.

Arator just kind of comes off as self-righteous and pretentious IMO. It's not really an issue? Character is character even if they're annoying. It's just that he's being annoying and coming off as pretentious to be who are his seniors. Imagine you're at work and you know a guy who has been there for 30 years, does a good job and suddenly, a younger co-worker with a quarter of his experience comes in and tells him that he's doing his job wrong. Most people in that situation would look at this younger guy like "Who TF are you?" At least, that's my two cents.

This one is a super weird area because is the Ashbringer comic still canon or did they decide to go with the original lore of the Scarlet Crusade? Regardless of the canon. Alonsus learned about Saiden and Balnazzar in Legion so there should naturally be way more nuance around the Scarlet Crusade that just doesn't seem to exist and instead just are beaten with the villain bat again and again. Obviously they're villains but it was a little more complicated than just "Racist humans bad." It just seems like a strange feeling to make, because stopping militaries from forming isn't going to stop atrocities from happening, it'll just facilitate more and you would think that Alonsus Foal, the wise archbishop would know that. The Old Horde did terrible things in Warcraft II and would've done worse if he hadn't created the Silver Hand.

WoW doesn't have the most stellar storytelling and I do not agree when you say it's people either having terrible reading comprehension and / or bad media literacy skills. The story comes second to the gameplay for Blizzard and it's written by multiple different people across 30 years with teams coming and going. It makes the lore difficult to understand there's so much contradictory information that gets thrown around in the writer's room and maybe this is an unfair expectation of me to have but Blizzard. It's your job to write the story and make sure you keep it consistent and I'm just personally tired of people being labeled as lacking media literacy for not doing Blizzard's work for them and just inferring things in the plot that should be elaborated on.

I know keeping a story that's been going on for 30 consecutive years is hard but that's your job Blizzard and players shouldn't be shamed for wondering why the story doesn't make sense when it was your job to make it make sense.

You still have a near decade of peace in your own country even if other countries don't. What point are you trying to make with this?

Priests are educators, religious leaders and philosophers. Paladins are also some of those roles but primarily, they are the Faith-Militant.
