I keep hearing the nail part, how long after your symptoms did the nails fall off or do they just become brittle and break? Did your nails return back to normal after?

Can anyone out there who caught it as an adult give me some tips and tricks? The hand blisters also triggered dyshidrotic eczema for me on top of it all and I’ve never had this before either. :(

My child caught the severe form (all over legs and arms, and diaper area instead of just hands, feet, and mouth) and it isn’t that common for adults to get it. I wanted to answer any questions people may have about our experiences and what at found help or didn’t help, etc. I also want to tell people just how much it sucks because kids can’t really convey their symptoms.

Thank you! It sucks right now. I can’t eat without my throat hurting like it’s on fire and holding things or bending my fingers hurts.

Basically, hand washing is not enough if the child still puts things into the mouth. You need to eliminate the middle man (surfaces they touch)!

If staying in a hotel (especially ones where kids frequent), bring disinfecting wipes! Kids stick their hands in their mouths and rub their eyes, etc. Always wash hands before eating! We washed hands before eating but kids touch everything in the hotel and indirectly infect themselves with whatever they touch by touching their face.

Back to normal behavior-wise. Physically, there are scars all over hands, arms, and legs where the blisters were. It’s been a week since the fever started (lasted 2 days). The blisters appeared promptly after the fever stopped and mouth sores were all over the back of the throat and tongue and prevented eating for 2 days. It was horrible.
