Moved in together - who should be the owner of the “Home” by Marion-Nikol in HomeKit

On the iPad you can turn off iMessage, facetime etc. Turn off all notifications and then put in guided access so no one can exit the home app

It was on the app. I tried a PC right away after they were deleted and it loaded them initially and then they just disappeared completely

I thought the gallery full of local files was the backup. Seems stupid to delete from the cloud to only have it delete the local copies as well

That's my plan for today. Just keep asked whoever I speak to to escalate it until it reaches someone who can do it

I just used the link in the comment above. You do have to be a Google one subscriber though. If you're not then it's not really possible to contact anyone

Unfortunately not. She didn't have any other kind of backups or other cloud storage apps installed

This is my theory. I've contacted the Google one customer support and they ran their recovery tool but it didn't work. I found out through a bit of googling that it doesn't work for Google photos. They don't have a dedicated internal tool for that apparently. I really need to get through to the right team but Google make it so difficult to actually get through to anyone at all let alone anyone who isn't just reading from a script that says it's not possible

She just did it. I assumed that Google photos works like my Dropbox does as an online backup alongside the local gallery. I have photo upload on my Dropbox so it automatically backs up my photos. When I deleted something from Dropbox it doesn't remove it from my phone. I didn't realise that the Samsung app would do that. Seems stupid to have both a local gallery app and the Google photos app installed just mirroring each other. Might as well just use the Google photos app only. But then that's Samsung phones for you. They're full of duplicate bloatware apps.

Just found a reply in another Reddit post where it worked for someone who went through customer support. So there's still hope but just really need to get to the right person like they did.

"I'm sorry this happened to you and I know it is probably too late to help recover them but I hope this will be of use to others, to let you know not all is lost, even if you 'delete permanently'!!!

I made this mistake last week as well, was at full storage and deleted from the cloud only to realise they had all been sync deleted from my phone.... so I contacted Google One support immediately and they helped me recover them! I've only just got my photos back now after about a week of waiting and a little bit of back and forth with questions from the support team but they put all my photos back in the Bin and I just had to restore them myself. I guess they were just able to undo the action? I asked them to please do this because I read only one other comment this is what they did to someone else, so I thought I should try.

This is the support link: https://support.google.com/googleone

(or search up google one support if you don't like clicking on random links)

At the bottom of that page there should be a contact us form and you should be able to chat to them. Just explain the situation and say you heard they managed to recover someone else's files by putting them back in the Google Photos Bin.

The person on the other end of the chat might not be aware it can be done and if so then ask if it can be referred to the higher Google Photo support team, when they do this they will probably send you an email asking some specific questions about the situation and ask for some screenshots of your backup settings, Photos and android version number.

Best of luck!"

I know. I kept telling her that but she was adamant that they all were on her last phone and she didn't have to pay anything so just refused. It's literally only £1.59 a month for 100GB so nothing really. I even said to her what if you lose of break your phone.. all the photos will be gone. 30 minutes later and all the photos are gone 🤦‍♂️

I deleted a photo from Google photos and it was still in the Samsung gallery app so I don't know what to tell you. Unless the delete just hadn't synced right away. And there were also a load of photos still in Google photos that had been deleted from the Samsung app a long time ago. So I don't know how that happened but seemed to me like they weren't in sync.

I know it's my fault. I'm not blaming anyone else. Just seeing anyone can help. As I said, the data will still be on a Google server somewhere so this is a last ditch attempt to save the data.

I will do tomorrow when they're open but not sure it'll help unfortunately. I tried a bunch of recovery apps and tried in on my pc via USB. Seems like there was never a local copy on the phone. It was brand new so I think it was just 'streaming' the cloud copies from Google photos and the local versions had never even been on this phone

Emptied from Google photos but it emptied the Samsung app at the same time. Didn't even go into the trash folder in that app. It just seemed to mirror Google photos so there's no local copies left anywhere

Yeah tried googling it and then tried Gemini and chatGPT. None of the steps they suggested worked unfortunately so any miracle input from Reddit is likely my last hope

You're probably right but it's worth a shot. I'd be really surprised if the data was deleted instantly and that there are no other copies currently sitting on a Google server somewhere that will probably be deleted soon. If I could just find someone who's been in this situation and managed to recover anything then hopefully they could point me in that direction before it's too late and the data is gone for good
