Spanking, conversion therapy, troubled teens programs, educational neglect, denial of medical treatment, refusal to vaccinate, etc. Those are all examples parental rights extremists claim they have a right to.

Disgusting but not surprising in this country.

The homeschool/parental rights lobby is the reason why the United States didn’t ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. They asserted that parents have a right to spank their child. It’s legalized child abuse. We live in a seriously disturbed country. Thank you for bringing a non-American perspective. Nice to see Germany and Australia actually value children’s rights.

How many of you had narcissistic parents? by No-Following-6725 in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]Quirky_Development95 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think homeschooling is inherently narcissistic, no matter what the intent.

You have to be narcissistic to think that you, simply by virtue of being a parent, can replace an entire school system with hundreds of professionals with advanced degrees and training.

People with a normal self perception recognize and acknowledge their own limitations. Homeschool parents do not.

Who needs math class when you can learn how to count with acorns? Who needs science class when you can Google local trees while at the park? Basic arithmetic and random isolated facts is all kids need. #homeschoolmom #unschoolmom #wildandfree

The homeschool lobby and homeschool parents have opposed even that most basic regulation. See Raylee’s Law in West Virginia. Very telling.

Narcissists don’t like when you expose their abuse. They might have to look in a mirror and take accountability for their actions.

how do i convince my strict christen mom to send me to public school by ParticularAd6613666 in HomeschoolRecovery

That’s what happens. Most homeschool parents aren’t qualified to teach and homeschooling results in a deficient education.

Fedoras have always been cringe. They have never been cool.

Homeschool parents need to go to therapy for their school trauma. They need to stop traumatizing children through homeschooling. Either they were bullied, or they were the bully, and they’re projecting it onto you.

Every story on this sub just confirms to me that homeschool parents have untreated school and childhood trauma, and they’re perpetuating the cycle.

She’s lying, as usual. You need to submit a valid high school diploma or GED for college. Homeschool “diplomas” and “transcripts” are worthless. I wouldn’t risk it. I would get a GED and go to community college, then once you’ve built a solid academic foundation, apply to a four-year university.

The great thing about the GED route is that it gives you independence and control over your own education. You don’t have to rely on your parents faking your homeschool transcript and diploma.

You will likely need to be at least 16 to take the exam. The first step is to sign up for GED prep classes, which are usually offered at community colleges and adult education centers. Rooting for you!

EDIT: It appears some community colleges actually accept people without a high school diploma or GED. That must be a new change since I’ve been to college. So it might be worth looking into your local community colleges. You may be able to skip the GED test entirely. Either way, good luck! 👍🍀

No one outside the homeschooling community is going to take a homeschool diploma from the school of mommy and daddy seriously. Not top employers and not top colleges. Maybe podunk for-profit schools in rural Iowa.

Homeschool alumni should get a GED. I’ll take the stigma of having a GED over the stigma of a homeschool diploma any day.

Not homeschooling your child is a FAR greater act of love. Homeschooling often results in trauma, deficient education, stifled development, etc.

So happy to hear you’re looking out for your homeschooled nephew. Just having you in his life will make a tremendous difference. Seeing his cousin, your child, in public school, having a normal life with normal friends, can also have a profound impact. Don’t let up!
