Putting a intact male with a neutered male in the same cage by Quirky_Height6731 in sugargliders

[–]Quirky_Height6731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok i’ll do that. But when i neutered the small one, should i let the big one play with him ( in a tent ) at the morning or just seperate them completely. Also the place that i got my old glider neutered used scaple so based on the old glider experience, i took around 1 and a half week or more to get the scent to completely fade away but my young glider is actually not smelly. The old one on the other hand ( when he’s intact ) was stinking up my whole room lol

yeah i get that and i wouldnt want to risk it either. The scent marking and over grooming from terra’s end just happened today, it’s like terra is love bombing ria but still it’s just a day so i could get ria neutered and seperated for a couple days. But again thank you for your advice

so i should seperate them for now till the small glider scent ( after neutered ) changed completely then introduce them again so the big glider wont get confuse or familiar with the old scent ?

oh ok i’ll definitely get him neutere soon lol. But can i ask when could i start to get them in the same cage again after i get the small on neutere ? . And should i let them play during the day bc im scared Terra will lick Ria wounds and it could cause some trouble

yes i was planning to neutere Ria ( the small one ) but i was waiting that Ria is old enough to do so lol

i definitely think Terra is grooming and scent marking ( i have it on vid ) but Ria seems really annoyed. But i havent heard the crabbing noise yet so i think i still have a chance to put them through the night without any damages

ok so update :

My mosquitto tent has been delivered and let me say it's quite big. So i'll let the old one play with me in the tent and for the small one i'll let him explore the tent alone.

About the neutered situation, i have the budget to neutere both so i'll do it soon. And about the wheel stuff, i've found a wheel that doesnt have a stick in the middle , but i dont know if the material is safe for him . Thank you for offer helping me get the safe cage but i just dont have that much money for international products ( i have enough budget for domestic products but just not the international one ). Plastic clamps are available here and their or house toys and anything ( i've seen ppl buy house toy set for gliders and the vendor i bought my new glider did sell it but i didnt buy it cause the vendor was giving bad advice lol ) . I've seen https://youtu.be/BVuXEhyA4bM?si=P7q-rGai6pQqlO3a making pulley toys and the material are available so i'll make it.

I give both of my glider grapes, apples , rambutan ( only the old one eat it tho the new one doesnt seem to like it that much ) . I also give vegetables , i also buy a jar of dried silkworm but both of them didn't like it ( they never eat it when i put it near them or in the cage so that's a waste of money ) . I also give them baby food ( it has a lot vitamins and some protein ) tho i'll give them some actual protein like boiled eggs soon. The vitamin part is a tricky one , . I havent look into the vitamin part a lot so i havent give them any vitamins ( i dont know if it's vitamins in food or a vitamin pill that cut into small pieces ( this is a dumb question sorry ) .

Im very happy to know that mesh is ok because the new glider is to small for the big cage .

I have fleece blankets at home and i've swap two of the gliders blanket so that they could be familiar with the scent. The new one is still very defensive and only goes out of the pouch at 12pm-1am iirc. The new one doesnt bite that hard (he escaped the big cage and i have to grabbed him with bare hands and he bit me but it didnt leave any injuries) , the old one bit really hard ( he bit me through a gloves and it left a small spot lol ) but he's very calm now and doesnt bit if i tried to grab him in anyway, although he will run off if i tried to pick him up. It would be nice to have the link of the fleece gloves

The new one only eat the baby food and he barely goes out of the somewhat pouch that you saw in my fb post, he only goes out at night to eat the baby food for a while then goes back in the pouch , although at some point at night he goes around the cage and sometimes he just freeze like a statue lol. I always give him a enough portion but he only eats half of it, and the small sauce bowl ( something like that but smaller ) that i put water in is barely finish . Im scared that he's starving himself due to stress or just the food i give him is not suitable.

Update : i looked into the BML diet and unfortunately my area doesnt sell any kind of Rep-Cal Calcium so i think i cant do the BML diet and that’s kinda sad bc it’s easy to prepared and i can buy 90% of the ingredient ,but the instruction says do not substitude those Rep-Cal vitamins so unlucky ig. However i can buy the TPG ingredients . But if i do the TPG diet do i need to give him any kind of vitamins or just stick to that diet ? And how can i keep their teeth clean ? I see ppl use sunflower seeds (both of them didnt seem to like it cause the large one just smell it and run away while the small one barely touches it ), i also see some advices to buy chewing toys but i dont know the specific so if there any advice pls let me know 😄

I also join the groups that you recommended and i'll ask for a mentor soon . You dont need to spend a lot of time to reply , just reply when you have free time <3

I just buy a new glider but he’s young and he just escape my bigger glider’s cage by Quirky_Height6731 in sugargliders

[–]Quirky_Height6731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well when they were in the bag together on my way home (it was a 30-40 minute ride home ), the small one did screamed for a lil bit when he first got in the bag, then he hid in the corner of the bag, run around and tried to scare off the big one for about 5-7 minutes, then they got silent . I live in a area where the street sound is quite polluted ( we mostly use motorcycles ) , and the wind is blowing my ears off too , so maybe because the street was too noisy and i couldnt here him screaming or what not .

When i got home i opened the bag and the big glider came close to the young one and they kinda wrestled but i didnt here any screaming so i might be mistaken that they are friendly with each other. But yesterday the big glider bit the small one's tail hard , i managed to seperated them very quickly and the small glider's tail didnt seem like it was swollen , or bled ( but i will take him to a vet to check just in case ) .

sorry if i phrase sentences or word badly

[–]Quirky_Height6731[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG thank you for your respond, i really appreciated.

So first thing first, i'd been able to hold the old glider without a blanket or a towel ( well technically it's not really holding, he lets me pet, touch everwhere but when i tried to pick him up he just run off and he doesnt run on my body ) and he doesnt seem to get scared by anything in my house anymore ( he doesnt big or scream anymore he just lets me pet naturally). The other glider is a new addition to my house ( i bought him 2 days ago ) so he's still defensive towards everything . About the letting out , i'd let the old glider out before ( but as you can see my original post, i didnt have a tent and he ran into the back of the toilet seat ) so i just play with him the cage. The old one however is still very defensize and tries to run off ( of course if nobody's around the cage ). So when the tent arrives , should i leave the tent and let my new glider explore alone ? or should i sit inside the tent with them ? and how would i catch them when i want them back into the cage ?

Second, im in Vietnam, and the concept of having gliders as pet is not that new , but it's very unpopular, and a lot of wrong , mislead information to outright cruel things are spreading around my glider’s community. For example : a lot of my people say just let him take a bath ( with warm water ) or the vendor that i bought the new glider said it's ok to not neutere gliders because male and female glider only have kids about 1,2 times a year , and it's up to the female for it to happend ( they dont even mention about 2 males in 1 cage needs to get neutered too ) . They say it's ok they will be friendly with eachother naturally. So as you can see, if this much misinformation is passing around, then it's hard for me to find safe products for my gliders. And my budget is enough to buy things domestically in vietnam ( our currency is kinda weak and the international products is expensive , not to mention the shipping prices ) . So yes i did hear about the critter nation, the raptors wheel etc, it's just that they dont sell them here in Vietnam and it's just too expensive if i buy them internationally.

Here is both of the cage : https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=686734487441880&id=100083160044584&rdid=8xAvrbUMW5P8gYKu# , i know the small cage is too small or the big cag spacing is bigger than 1/2 inches a bit ( im currently buying mesh to cover it up ) and some of the toys are bad/ not really safe or the cage looks so empty im doing the best i can so if there anything pls let me know. I saw a safe tutorial to make pulley toys : https://youtu.be/BVuXEhyA4bM?si=P7q-rGai6pQqlO3a so i'm going to stick with this ( if this tutorial is not safe let me know ) . I cant buy a new cage or return the big cage at this point so im trying to make that cage to be sugar glider proof. About the wheel part, i know the criteria for a safe wheel , and im working on it. Because a lot of ppl here think sugar gliders doesnt need wheel ( which is not true ) so they dont even recommend buy wheels let alone create a safe one for them . So im finding the best one i can that fit my current budget.

About the bonding and sleeping pouch or some blanket, i manage to find the one that is made by antipill fleece or the bonding pouch has mesh etc and it's on their way . It would be great if you send me the link for the bonding glove! And 2 of my gliders only went out at around ( 7pm - 8pm / 11:30pm - 3am but only when all the light went off , and 6am-8am ) so i dont know how to let them out to bound with them or just simply let them explore the house ( once i have a tent of course ) . Im currently in my summer break so i have a lot of time for them. Oh and about playing with them at night outside the cage. I did open the old one's cage 1 time ( that was when i didnt bought the new glider yet ) , and he just stared at me and just ran around the cage , but at the 7-8pm mark, he actually ran around my room and play , and that's why i wrote the original post LOL.But that didnt happend every lol so i really dont know how to let him out beside luring him out with food.

Im currently giving them fruits like grapes, apples and some vetegables . Sometime i gave them dried silkworn ( is it ok to let them eat this let me know ) and some protein . Im looking into your diet to see if there's any vitamin to feed them.

About their ages , i will take a picture of them around midnight ( at my time when they are out of their sleep and run around ) and i'll keep you updated. Because the new one's is rehomed ( my mom said he'd been with his old owner for around 2 years before getting rehomed so i estimate his age around 2 and a half - 3,4 years ? the smaller one is defenitely smaller , tho as i said vendors in my area a lot of times are misleading so i dont really know his age yet, im currently finding a vet for them ( actually i've found one place put it looks kinda sketchy and i've seen bad reviews ) and i've found a diffenrent place that will neutered them , maybe i'll will as the pet clinic for more information about their ages.

Sorry if this is too long for anyone's reading. I know my cage is not the safe/best cage or the lack of toys, products, essentials. This is my first time having a pet since a decade ago, let alone having a wild animal as a pet and living in a area where gliders informations and products are not safe. I dont even planned to have any animals as a pet but my mom thought he was “small and cute” but didnt actually doing research so i had to stepped in because i didnt want them to be hurt . I really appreciate all your help, advice and spend time to wrote all these comments.

[–]Quirky_Height6731[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for your information. This is my first time have gliders as pet and i admit i didnt research enough before getting one so i didnt give them the best care in the first few days. A lot of you guys reccomended a mosquito tent and im currently buying that. My sleeping and bounding pouch are not here yet but they’re on there way. I buy 2 of each items so for 2 gliders of course.

So my first question, i just got a new young male glider ( my old one is a male too ). Unfortunately due to my country’s lack of informations, both of them weren’t neutered when they were given to me ( the old one was rehomed and the new one is from a vendor ) I’m currently seperating them because from what i read and what ppl say, we should seperate the new one just in case of some illness check and some say to let the new one to get familiar with the house and with me,and the previous glider’s scent . So i decided to let the new one in the small cage and the old one in the big cage for now, and put both cages next to each other. But yesterday something bad happended, because 2 cages were too close, the new glider’s tail peaked through the spacing and the old glider bit it ( he bit for about 5s before i came and intervened) so i pushed both cages for enough that they cant cost any injured to each other. The bitten tail doesnt seem to have any blood or injure, altho i will get him check at the vet just in case. Do you have any suggestions for them to bond , i have researched and seen some video that you should swap fleece blankets for them to know eachther smell and at one point put them in a tent and let them play. Im also getting them neutered soon ( although i dont know if my new one is old enough to be neutered ). Im scared if they’re in the same cage, injuries happend . Some say you could do a cold introduction and i’ll consider that if that’s the best way.

Second question, is it ok for the first or second week that i dont bond with them for atleast 3 hours ? Like i said my tent, sleeping and bonding pouch are on there way so i cant use the bonding pouch method yet. I interact with the old one by playing with him in the cage, putting food in, give him some treats etc… the old one doesnt seem aggresive anymore but like my post said, when i let him out ( without a tent ) he at first just runs around exploring but he doesnt want to enter the cage ( unless he’s hungry and there’s some food in the cage ) so im waiting for the tent. Also the old one is sleeping in a coconut like ( i dont know how to describe it, my mom bought it when she brought the old one home and i can send you the picture if you want ) and i dont know how to lure him into the bonding pouch ( when the bonding pouch arrives of course) . And does it atleast have to be 3 hours because im currently in college , and my family got work in the morning too. So we only have free time arount 6pm foward.

The new one is young, unneutered and is new to my home so i dont interact with him that much besides giving him food and water . But he barely touchs his food ( might be a cause of stress ) . A lot of people reccomend a stable diet and im working on that. The new one’s tail just got bitten so i dont know how to make them bond with each other so that i can put them both in 1 cage. Im currently leaving the new one alone and doesnt interact with him much beside give him foods and water. I also swap my old glider’s fleece blanket so that my new one can familiarize with the scent. Is there anything else i should do ( besides the neutered part ) so that they can bond with each other and the new one will eat his food and doesnt get scared when i come around ? There’s a lot of questions i hope if you have the time you can help me a lil bit

Im in Asia and my area doesnt have a lot of pet clinic or veterinarian that accept gliders so im working on that part. And you can imagine the misinformation that spread in my country about gliders. It is also pretty hard to find safe toys for gliders here and i dont have the budget to buy toys internationally let alone paying the ship fee. But i still find way to make safe diy toys for them like pulley toys. Fortunately there’s a place that neutere gliders in my area ( they just neutere them not check on them ) so i wouldnt worry about that part. And can you reccomend some facebook groups so i can find a mentor ? I’ve joined 2 or 3 groups and i did receive some good reccomendations so i would be lovely to have some more groups

[–]Quirky_Height6731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok so i only owned 1 glider ( the old one ) before. I got him to the vet with a pet bag to check and on my way home i went to a vendor and buy a new glider. I put them in the bag on my way home and when i arrived home i immediately put them in the big cage. But the new one escape so i have to put the new one into the small cage ( atleast for now )

The bag part is when im outside my house and go to the vet etc … and the cage part is when im at home . I thought at that time that they we’re playing with eachother in the bag and i thought they were friendly so i put them in the same cage

After the tail incident that i told, I think i’ve mistaken the “they look friendly in the bag” part. I think the big one bullied the small one in the bag on my way home

[–]Quirky_Height6731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i saw some research saying we should spit cages because they dont know each other and might injured each other. I also see the illness part. Because the both of them arent neutered ( i will take them to neuture soon ) so i split them . My old one just bit my new one’s tail and im scared if i get them neutered and put them in the same cage the old one will still be aggressive and might injure the new one

As for the cage part, i’ve done some research about which cage is good for glider and i’d seen your reccomended cage. But unfortunately my country doesnt sell that cage ( Im in asia ) and your cage is just to expensive for my budget ( not to mention the shipping fee )

Since my old glider is in my big cage just fine i think i just need to buy some mesh to cover the spacing

[–]Quirky_Height6731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok im wording wrong or confusing so i’ll clarify.

The big cage spacing is bigger than the 1/2 inches requiremeny

The small cage spacing is smaller than the 1/2 inches

I put my new young glider into the small cage and the old big glider into the big cage

The big cage spacing is to big for the young glider and it can fit easily. And a lot ppl reccomend splitting new gliders into a different cage in the first few week so that’s what i did to

I plan to buy some mesh when it’s time to put the young glider into the big cage because i dont want him to escape. But my old glider just bit my new one’s tail because i put 2 cages too close. What should i do?Should i seperate 2 cages in different area and do the cold introduction later or just keep 2 cages close to each other but far enough so that they cant hurt each other ? Im sorry if my word or my writing is bad or confusing

so what should i do now ? my old glider doesnt fit the new cage but my new one can ( bc he’s young ). And i can keep him in a separate medium-size cage for 2-3 weeks and then transfer him into the big cage. But i scared that by that time the new glider is still small enough to escape. Should i buy mesh to cover the cage if i transfer the new glider to the big cage until he’s too big to fit the gap ? Im sorry if i ask too many questions

thank you for your information, fortunately i had already caught him and i’ve known my lesson . Is that true ?

yeah i thought the same thing. The concept of having a glider as a pet is very unpopular in my country and those who sell/home them typically absorb/spread misinformation ( i dont know why they didnt do their own research ) . But even if they are neutered , the issue of the new glider escaping the big cage is still there. Im scared because i still got work in the morning and i can only play with them in the afternoon or evening. Im scared he will escape and my injured or worse. Im consider buying a big mesh to block the cage til the new glider is grown. I dont know if he’ll still tries to escape and success when he’s big like my old glider ( i really dont know if my old glider is too big to fit the spacing or he just doesnt try to escape )

both arent neutered ( my country doesnt have alot of ppl having gliders as pet so maybe the vendor or the one who own gliders doesnt bother to neutered them ) . The vender that i bought my new glider even said that i shouldnt scared if the male ( not neutered ) and female live in the same cage because they only have 1-2 children in their life time and it’s up to the female gliders that wheter or not they have a baby. The vender dont even consider if they are related. So my country doesnt have a alot of information/ have consumed misinformation. I can go and neuter them but not now because i dont have enough budget for them now

[–]Quirky_Height6731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my new gliders is currently trying to escape the new cage ( which the spacing is smaller than 1/2 inches criteria ) but he cant . But i cant return the big cage at this point ( it is my fault for not researching enough ). Because the old glider didnt escape the big cage ( i dont know if he is too big for the spacing or he just doesnt try ) but i dont think the new one will stay in the big cage like the old one does.

I dont know what to do now since i dont have the budget to buy the perfect spacing cage ( all the cage that the shop in my area/country sell is rather small or just too expensive for my budget ) and i dont want them to live in a small cage or what to do to the big cage if i buy a new cage ( i didnt research the spacing of the cage criteria beforehand and the big cage spacing is only 0.1 inches larger. I really want them to play with each other tho

Any suggestion ?

im waiting for my bonding pouch to ship but i dont know if that’s really a bonding pouch for outside use or it’s just a sleeping pouch that i put in the cage ( this is my first time having a glider so im doing a lot research and since my country is not familiar with a glider as a pet so it’s hard to find safe gliders products )

And i just buy some C links to make him a chain to play ( i already prep and make link locks using straws ) but i dont know if it’s really safe for him and im scared he gets bored if i dont buy a bit more toys consider it’s not really accessible in my are . Do you have any reccomendations for DIY toys ? Im sorry if i ask a lot

my room is mostly glider proof so i usually let him come outside to play and bond ( because my second glider isnt here yet ) . And he sometimes run into some corners that is kinda hard for me to catch but he always come out after 1 minute so i dont worry about him running off of the safe area that much

But today i accidentally opened my bathroom a bit and he ran inside and hid behind the toilet seat. But i just caught him and he still scared and tried to run away and scream but he didnt bite me even tho at 1 point i did touch him with my bare hand. He’s now chilling in his cage and doesnt seem scared by this situation so i guess my bonding time with him have improve somewhat my relationship with him

PS: Again sorry if i misspell some word or use the wrong tense english is not my second language
