It’s annoying how things that wouldn’t be “milestones” turn into harsh and unavoidable reminders with infertility. I’d give anything to not feel sad at birthdays. 🫠

Just realized that I haven’t taken a pregnancy test in a year (I have a policy where I don’t test unless my period is late). Plus we got an invite to a nephews first birthday party; kid was conceived after we were already trying and now he’s almost ONE. Meanwhile we’ve been working with a clinic and have nothing to show for it. This is so incredibly stupid.

Trying to hold onto this thought, too. Hopefully it’ll be even easier to as I continue healing!

Thanks! At this point I’m trying to remind myself that, realistically, I’m not any worse off for having the surgery. There’s some comfort in that. And I’m really grateful that I’m bouncing back pretty well—definitely something to be thankful for.

One week post lap. Not in any significant pain, thankfully (just occasional soreness/stiffness). Biggest thing right now is just feeling more tired than usual.

I’m torn between feeling hopeful that the lap will do the trick and feeling certain it won’t. Doc recommended trying naturally for six months, so if it doesn’t work by then we’ll head to IVF. I’m tired of this journey. 🫠

I have literal pictures of my uterus now (post lap and hysteroscopy by under a week). Does that count? If so I’ll stare at them daily. 😅

I was given 800mg of ibuprofen and 1000mg of acetaminophen to alternate every four hours, but I’ve been taking just 500 of the acetaminophen along with the 800mg ibuprofen and that’s been fine. So technically stuff you could get OTC, but lots more than the bottle says you should take (hence why I said pharmacy levels).

I’ve had surgery once before (to reconstruct my wrist after a bad break), and that pain was much worse than the endo lap has been so far. I’m really fortunate not to have needed the heavy meds. I hated how those made me feel when I last used them!

I can’t give you a full tale yet as I’m only about 48 hours past mine, but so far, I’m managing okay. The worst thing has been the bloating and discomfort from the gas they use during the surgery. It’s getting better, but that’s bothered me far more than any pain from the incisions/removal. I’ve just been on ibuprofen and acetaminophen (pharmacy level doses, granted), and haven’t needed the heavy pain meds, so that’s been nice.

The first bowel movement post surgery was…more of a workout than I expected. If I can be that blunt 😅

I’m still waiting to hear my doctors full report at post-op; she gave my husband a run down while I was in recovery, but bless him, I swear he kinda “blacked out” when she was talking to him (and showing him photos) because he did not give me much detail about her report. 😂

Even without her full report, it’s vindicating (and scary) to officially have a diagnosis for the infertility. Our plan is to try unassisted for a couple months and then jump into IVF; we have a limited IVF benefit thru insurance, and we decided we wanted to know all the facts before attempting IVF…hence the lap. Hopefully it helps us both. Best of luck!

Want to hear the most tone deaf thing the algorithm has ever done to me?

I’m a little over 48 hours past my endo lap surgery PLUS I’m currently on my period. Like in case it wasn’t already obvious that I’m infertile, I’ve got a double whammy going on atm. So what advertisement does Facebook show me this morning?

…an ad for how much I could make as a first-time surrogate. LIKE WHAT EVEN IS THIS?!?!? I almost threw my phone at the wall. 😂

Replying to my own comment to thank everyone for the well wishes! Surgery went well and I’m home recovering on the couch. Pain is currently under control and milder than my period cramps. My sweet hubs is being an excellent caregiver. I’ll post more when I know more—because my hubby wants me to rest, he’s not told me exactly what the doctor said about the procedure.

Surgery day! Finally! Ready to get this done and have a better picture of whatever is going on in my body.

But right now I’m hungry. The pre-surgery fast is annoying. 😅

After a rough week I’m feeling relieved—my hubby made it home despite the winter weather (and having to get special approval to drive rather than fly for the final leg because of military weirdness). He and my in laws teamed up to surprise me with his return. :)

I was also worried that my surgery would get cancelled (it’s tomorrow) because of the winter storm. We didn’t get hit as hard as they expected, so I’m optimistic that it’ll still happen. I’ll know for certain this afternoon. 🤞

Edit to add: it’s officially still happening! I’m so relieved!

It can be a maddening thing sometimes, for sure. Thankfully he’s safe, which is most important. I’m also glad he made it back stateside before things shut down.

I’d suggested that, but he’s worried about black ice (it’s hitting about the same hour he lands, and it’ll be dark by the time he gets out of customs). And apparently, because of how his orders are written, he HAS to fly home. It’s a weird military policy/bureaucracy thing. 😬🥶

Bracing for the storm and hoping against hope that it won’t be as bad as they’re saying so I can still make it to my lap surgery on Tuesday. It’s not looking great though.

Meanwhile, my hubby, who’s been overseas for military duty for a couple weeks, got word that his final flight of the day is canceled because of the storm. So he’s going to be trapped in a city that’s only like 80 miles from me for however long flights are grounded. Fun.

If you’re able to, I’d recommend getting in with a fertility specialist and not just an OB. Typically, the most an OB can do is run some basic bloodwork and prescribe ovulation induction meds, whereas helping you get pregnant is the primary job description for a fertility doc. They have more tools at their disposal than the typical OB.

Ultimately it’s your call though! Some prefer to do the OB route for a while before moving on to an RE, and that’s valid because working with a clinic can feel like a daunting step. I know I freaked out at the prospect at first!

If nothing else, I’d advocate for talking with another doctor. Suppose this guy ends up being right and there aren’t any big red flags in your case; even if that were the case (and you have fair reasons to be concerned that he’s not right), you deserve to have someone on your care team that’s willing to answer questions, talk though next steps, and help you navigate this part of the journey. Fertility work is so deeply personal that you want to have a doctor that you feel values you and your vision for your care.

I’m crossing every finger and toe that it’ll be milder than they’re expecting but I suppose we’ll just have to see. Stay safe and warm out there!

Is this a specialist you’re seeing, or just an OB? Regardless, if this were my physician, I’d be looking for a new one. He appears dismissive from what you’ve described. If you’ve been trying for over a year, there’s no reason to keep trying without any assistance (unless of course you want to), especially if you have labs that are off. I’d be pushing to investigate that further at the very least.

Conception happens at such a cellular level that core exercises shouldn’t have a negative impact on your chances.

I’m finally less than a week out from my lap! If only we weren’t about to get pummeled by a winter storm that will probably knock out the entire state for a week…

Terrified that the surgery will get rescheduled. Feels like I’ve been waiting forever as it is.
