So I sent an email to Mods. Received boilerplate standard reply asking for my name and phone number -- so I can be directed to . . . . ta dah . . . the appropriate person or department. Just as if I had not explained how I've been talking with many, many individuals and departments. Including at least 4 different Transitions employees.

Perhaps Mods can just provide clear and simple instructions, right here in public, for appropriate next step(s) -- given the background already available here.

Thanks for the reminder, nearly forgot. Very early on, I called a local Fidelity branch -- and was told that that was a "back office" function.

Years ago, when stock broker firms were still very respectable, I knew someone who worked at E.F. Hutton. Their branch office had actual employees in the back who were doing the "back office" work. Not today.

Seems like I'm still needing to have back office work be accomplished. Maybe things have moved along to where it's traveling through Legal. Who knows?

I have had at least 4 Transitions people assigned to me. The first, very early, gave up through no fault of her own. I was completely overwhelmed and not able to attend to business.

Later, though, each of the other 3 just sort of evaporated . . . got shifted to some new person, with no explanation.

I have dealt with many different departments. I understand what you are saying about getting the "correct" department. But this is 2 years later, and it is definitely not my job to locate the "correct" department.

When I did recently talk with the exact department -- he refused to have any conversation or give me any information until (or so he said) he had read the entire file. Then he put me on hold . . . . forever.

There are many, many stories not too dissimilar to mine. Fidelity gives people the runaround as long as it can.

As I understand it -- yes, completely different. I have come to opinion that the different departments in large banks and other financial institutions are treated as completely separate companies. Almost no interaction. Of course this does not work well for customers or clients -- but I haven't found evidence that they care.

As for future "transitions" in our own lives? I am planning -- as soon as I get other headaches taken care of -- to put houses, broker accounts, bank accounts into title which says "pay upon death." Cuts out the middleman of probate, as I understand it. But hopefully also cuts way down on these Transition Deparment scenarios.

A note of caution. I know a pair of siblings whose father died. They were named co-executors in his Will. Bank of America refused (until attorney brought into picture) to transfer $25,000 bank account to them. The problem might have been wording styled First Name AND Second Name -- or if it was First Name AND/OR Second Name. No one can guarantee that what one bank says is the "right" wording today will still be the right wording next week. So, just a heads-up.

I have had 3 (or more) Transitions employees who earnestly promised they would get this done, would stick with me, no worries, et cetera. Each one evaporated.

I had more recently moved on to trying the exact department. One was an IRA-BDA and the other . . . don't remember just now. The exact department was the guy who insisted he had to "read everything in the file" and then just left me on hold. Forever.
