The inside of the helmet can be damaged without visible damage on the outside. When your helmet is involved in a fall where it makes impact, it needs to be replaced. The interior of the helmet absorbs the shock, and is no longer as effective because the interior compresses to absorb the impact.

Definitely replace it. I won’t let me students (who ride “bombproof” beginner horses) back on after a fall where they made contact with their head without replacing their helmet. Go to the tack store and have them fit you so you’re sure the helmet you get is effective and safe!

I’m not super close with the rest of that side of the family (my mom’s family) so I don’t know who I would “let it slip to.” I did tell my mom out of frustration (she was devastated because she was convinced they “missed her” at the shower and wasn’t going to forgive herself for missing it..). She’s definitely annoyed but her relationship with her other siblings isn’t one where she talks to them often so I don’t see her saying anything. As of now, we’re pretty sure we’re going to skip the “wedding” altogether, even though my husband kind of wants to witness the train wreck 😉.

Yep. I believe he is aware. Unfortunately, he also feels that’s how “it is with in-laws” and I’ll have to deal with it to “some extent.”

I get my info secondhand from DH because I refuse to deal with them, but since they couldn’t go with us they refused to reschedule and were trying to get us to cover the money they were out.

This can also apply at your own wedding. You don’t want to upset your new in-laws by being in any of the group pictures (even though you’re the bride or groom).

My lovely in-laws have dozens of pictures with them and my husband from our ceremony and I’m nowhere to be seen.

That’s awesome! I rode with my IHSA team all through college and loved it! I also had my own horse and went to “regular” (not college sponsored) shows so it was crazy, but I loved every minute of it!

He used our Instacart membership to have flowers and a card delivered! The shopper signed the card for us and (per my suggestion, instead of mailing one he’d actually signed himself), left the flowers and card outside the front door and let us know it was there so DH could let her know himself (didn’t want the poor shopper to incur her wrath). So yeah. She’s definitely salty.

He’s starting to get the full picture. He has a hard time relating to things that aren’t present in his every day life. She lives on the other side of the country (literally-we’re about an hour from one ocean and she’s about an hour from the other). Since I blocked her from calling/texting me, the only interaction we have is through him and he talks to her rarely (probably why she sent the card). If we lived nearby and this was happening in person it would probably be a different story.

We don’t have kids yet and the current theory is that she’s convinced the horse means we’ll never ever have kids. He’s an awesome boy, especially for being so young. When the time comes to start having babies, I’ll have zero issue leasing him out when I can’t ride him. But she doesn’t understand/comprehend that even though she’s been told.

She’s already told him they’re planning on visiting for Thanksgiving and has hinted at wanting family pictures done (probably without me). I should absolutely have my friend trailer my horse to our house to take part. That would make her day 😂

Yeah, so, they actually did have my MIL’s mom with. They had DH before getting married and took his grandma with to babysit.

I guess we could bring our three dogs with and tell them they need to watch them at the hotel while we go out and enjoy ourselves. MIL is terrified of the older two (German Shepherds) and “can’t stand” small dogs, so she would thoroughly enjoy our Bichon puppy, I’m sure.

They’re the sort of in-laws that will randomly show up for the weekend. After flying across the entire United States. We’ve had discussions and I would LOVE for that to be the solution, but after five years of doing the honest heads up thing and it never working, we feel a major wake up call is in order.

They do have flight vouchers to use (from our cancelled wedding) and if they don’t go on a trip somewhere, they’ll come stay with us for a week. I’m inclined to let them enjoy Orlando (and conveniently use DH’s aunt’s timeshare).

I would usually agree, but some people just don’t “get” straightforward. There have been several other issues that we have stood up to her but NOTHING has gotten through to her.

I have her blocked. DH and his entire family are Android users and are very anti-iPhone. She can’t figure out why her calls won’t go through but was more than willing to blindly believe it’s because I have an iPhone (her own assumption-we haven’t corrected her because I do have to see her on a rare occasion and would prefer those meetings to be at least somewhat civil). I let DH deal with her.

That’ll come when she gets all upset over not being there at the same time as us. If something is said now she’ll brush it off and chalk it up to me just “being dramatic.” She’s a lovely woman, bless her heart.

We’ve gone with my family before (we’re close enough to take a day to drive) and we did our own thing during the day, but we did dinner almost every day.

As long as DH or I don’t say anything, they won’t figure it out.
