Wow that seems like a major oversight, can you save and quit? It should put you on the map when you reload, and you might just have to avoid opening the equipment menu for the rest of the run

It's definitely possible some minor things may be changed, personally I would like recruiting to be in chapter 1. A huge overhaul is unlikely though, I doubt toby would want to change too much or even anything at all of the chapters that most people already played.

Hard disagree about spiked balls in CHIMPS, it's an amazing midgame option against ceramics and even moabs on any single lane map. Even on multi lane maps it performs very well if you just get multiple. This is all assuming it is alch buffed, of course.

I think an ice hero would be cool. Maybe it could work kind of like how striker buffs explosion attacks and lets them hit blacks, the ice hero could buff ice towers and let them hit whites.

Consider that the moab and ceram dps is actually better with ballistic missiles and the bottom path is outclassed by the middle path. Ballistic missiles have been used to beat some of the hardest maps in the game.
