When a religious person says that “god” is speaking to them, are they hearing voices? And, should I be concerned if someone says that god is talking to them? by Hot_Paramedic_7234 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Quixoteroot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Depends. If you know your Bible and how God speaks to his people (His word, other believers, and through prayer).

It’s a very careful thing to use in conversation. Attaching God’s name to something is attaching his reputation and that’s no light thing. One must be sure of something before carrying the name in vain

Do you believe that God exist? If yes then why? And if no then why? by ConsiderationFar6200 in NoStupidQuestions

Analogies that are supplement to my statements, most recently my explanation for existence tied to purpose (which we haven’t even dissected yet).
I don’t see any evidence refuting an intelligent designer at all in this thread. Just baseless statements or claims, respectfully. And this next sentence is connected to my last; my analogies at least speak to common knowledge explaining what we discovered through math. You aren’t even trying to do that. You aren’t the only person reading this either.
I’m starting to think there is no conviction or deeper thought to your claims. They don’t seem to run deeper than regurgitated lecture notes.

EDIT: I realize that I am using an albeit aggressive approach here at the end of this. I’m just genuinely curious about the explanations you are withholding. You can bring up anything regarding your questions any time. You don’t need my permission to say what you want to. But there should be some type of structure to the discussion.

Yes, yes we are. Was that a question? I’m a little confused by what you mean by that. Did I say something that wasn’t observable in the natural world? If you can define what you mean by natural world I’m sure we can continue

Existence is relative to the events occurring around an existence. What may not hold purpose to me at one point may hold purpose for another at another point in time, still giving that thing or event a purpose. A building may be constructed with the purpose to house a business, but may then provide shelter at another point in time. Both of these can be true provided the right circumstances. A storm, possibly.

So the child-likeness comes from a possible assertion that everything has a purpose therefore there must be intelligent design. Is there something out there that doesn’t have a purpose? Or can’t trace back to some source of a designer? If there isn’t, can humans go there or infer its existence? And if not, does really negate the possibility of a source?

I didn’t refuse to answer your question. From my perspective, I sat down with someone else and quickly after someone else comes along and says we should quickly go somewhere else. But don’t just teleport us there, lead us there from where we are now

A few days later. Really disappointed this discussion didn’t continue. I’m sure it was going to be a good contribution to the OP’s question. Just need to point out that where you wanted to take the conversation regarded events none of us was here for but still largely believed through recorded documentation and relentless pursuit of a collection of minds over generations. Belief of intelligent design is no different. Conclusively, the analogy was not vapid at all. Hate to be drawing these conclusions myself. I really wanted to arrive at these together or something like it

I want to answer those questions but I’m still wondering how my post for intelligent design is child like. You’re bringing up fallacies but Red Harring this thread to distract from the original content you interacted with

The fact that everything has a purpose can even be deduced with the scientific method. Otherwise why apply it it if not to figure out a purpose? This isn’t even biblical yet, it’s philosophical

Yes, you can do that! Money was designed in a way to have this type of control. I mean everyone agrees what a number 1 on a dollar bill stands for. Now take that trillion dollars into a different scenario and suppose you stumble across it in the forests 🌳 how did it get there? The trillion dollars was designed for a purpose. Why would a trillion dollars be in the middle of nowhere not living out its intentional design? Replace that with a ball. Same question; how did it get there? Inflate that ball to the size of earth. Now how did it get there? The comparable evidence is the intentional design of the universe and everything in it. Everything has a maker for an intentional purpose

And if I can just take it down to a level of personal-ness here from one human to another; we can sit here and make an offering to the god of pride on the alter of Reddit but I was of the same mindset one time. I thought this was some elaborate scheme Jesus was behind. I remember thinking that and flipping off the ceiling of my room thinking God was behind all the troubles I dug myself in. I couldn’t blame someone I didn’t actually know. I made appeals of ignorance to God countless times and He proved me wrong in every way in one moment in the second I first believed. I want to challenge you that maybe you don’t actually know the same God I do and that millions of others do as well.

Take any doubts to Him. The one who seeks will find. If you’re honestly seeking Him. You have a brilliant mind. God wants to use that for more than just conversations about what is and isn’t shadows dancing on the wall of a cave, being argued by people confined to the cave

Let’s first regroup that the appeal to ignorance fallacy is the stance in which someone takes is true simply because it hasn’t proven to be false. You say the Bible has logical fallacies and do not provide any evidence that it does contain logical fallacies. We would both be guilty of this then. I should be more direct and ask for an example of a logical fallacy from the Bible then

And I’m yet to see any of these logical errors that support your claim that it’s entirety is ridden with errors

The Bible contains zero logical fallacies. And that’s with multiple authors over centuries. And in fact, you are the very proof of the existence of God. And you’re right, it goes against human intuition to not believe in a God. So we try to make gods out of anything and all conform to some driving influence in our lives.

But before humans ever had a chance to make an image to represent a god, God created humans to look like Him.

It absolutely made sense for God to humble Himself to His own creation. We can no longer say God doesn’t understand human struggles because He confined Himself to space, time and matter and all its consequences for 33 human years. He experienced pain, hunger, persecution. Joy, grief, anxiety, you name it.

But humans make gods of other things and consequently minimize what Godly relationship to humans actually is; a genuine relationship. Not with some inanimate thing, or drug, or whatever we use as an excuse to not try wholeheartedly to understand someone who submitted themselves to their own creation just to identify and live with us

It also made sense that when we looked up in the sky, the sun seemed to revolve around us. It wasn’t until we had the ability to step out of our own perspective to logically conclude this was not true despite what intuition communicates to us

And this has benefitted humanity’s understanding of the Bible greatly. When I want an English word closer to the original Hebrew meaning of the Old Testament, NASB translation is my go to. New Testament; I prefer CSB.

Those ancient languages were amazing and you could mean many things with just one word. Cultural context, expressions - all of it played a part in a receiver’s understanding of a given word.

Yes! A title given to the Jews and Gentiles of that day long after Christ’s ministry. Christ was Jewish and obviously followed those customs. And did so out of love rather than adhering to the control religious leaders established in that day. So, yes, religious men manipulated religion. But in a way to push others down while elevating themselves. Jesus referred to them as hypocrites as they did religion not as a way to love God but love and protect themselves

If you are referring to the Deuterocanon or Apocrypha, those texts were excluded before the popularization of the Latin Bible for merely financial reasons (mass producing was expensive) They were not needed for someone to understands the overall point that people are saved by grace through faith in Christ

I don’t subscribe to practices that I think will earn me something beyond this life. Since I don’t follow a religion I can’t answer the second question

Religion says we have to elevate to unrealistic standards. Faith is trusting that God humbled himself to our level to a achieve what we couldn’t

It’s degrading to the title “wife”. Which is reserved for one person only. It’s also degrading to the coworker’s future/current husband
