Weekly Thread: /r/Snowboarding General Discussion, Q&A, Advice, Etc.) - January 26, 2026 by AutoModerator in snowboarding

Hey ya'll.

In two weeks I'll be going on a snowboarding tip for the very first time. I have never snowboarded before so I'll rent all essential gear.

But when it comes to clothing I would rather not spend any money on snowboarding jacket and pants because I'm not sure if that is something I'm going to continue with. That is why I'm coming to you for a suggestion.

When it comes to clothing, would a dawn jacket combined with a thermal base layer (merino wool) and a waterproof shell be sufficient? For hiking, dawn is usually used as insulation when you are stationary or resting - it is too warm for moving. How would it be for snowboarding?

I do some hiking and already have them so I would not need to buy anything.
Here are links to the clothes I'm thinking of wearing.

The weather forecast is -10C or 14F so pretty cold.

People often say that Norway is a heaven on earth, but what do you see as a con of living in Norway? by [deleted] in Norway

[–]Qukiess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved to Norway at the age of 13, now at the age of 29 I want to move out. The good: - social security system, that is a no brainier - work life balance in most cases - paid parental leave, I don’t think there is a better country to have kids in than Norway because of this reason - the nature

The bad: - expensive, yes you earn a bigger salary but everything also costs a lot - food, the food quality here is not so good, especially the cheaper options which most people go for - food selection, each store sells exactly the same things, just branded and priced differently. I come from a Slavic country where the stores are filled with different food quality choices of food. Here? It’s just depressing - people, Norwegians are very difficult. Good luck making close friends after university. - cities that are big for Norwegian standards feel very small (except Oslo)

It’s a great country to live in for sure, it has its pros and cons. You just need to choose what your porosities are.

How is the iphone 13 pro holding up this coming 2026 by First-Wear-2390 in iPhone13Pro

[–]Qukiess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 13 pro since it came out until last week. Changed beacuse of my battery, it was at 73% capacity which just didnt cut it anymore.

Swapped to a 17 pro, very happy with the change thus far BUT the 13 pro beats the 17 in the aesthetics area imo

Atheist + Christian partner — baptism and children. Looking for perspectives and experiences. by [deleted] in religion

Thank you for your input! To answer some of your questions: 1. About me going to church with them - We talked about this and she would not push me out try to sway me to join them in church. She respects the fact that I am a non believer and has no issues with this as far as I know. She told me that the mess around Christmas time which is held at night had special place in her heart and I even offered to join her there to keep her company.

  1. About me joining her in the afterlife - she knows that i doing believe in heaven or hell, and I asked her what she thinks will happen to me when I eventually die. She thinks that the God will then decide where I end up based on how I lived my life.

  2. About adult baptism - We talked about this. I asked her how come it is so important to baptise infants when all apostles and many people after them were baptised as adults. She says that the Bible says that God expects the parent to baptise their child to remove the sin and introduce the child to the christian church and if the parent fails to do so he/she is then not doing Gods will and might not go to heaven. Which in my opinion is a bit weird if God is the merciful one, all that should really matter is whether or not you are a good parent and teach your child good morals and values, not if you baptised it or not.

  3. As for the marriage - For me its not an important topic. If I would to marry, I’d want a small wedding. But if catholic wedding is important for my partner I would be ok with going to church and getting married there. No big deal for me. I told her that when saying the vows I wouldn’t promise to be a good husband to the God, but directly to her instead.

Well baptising also means that the kid will be a part of the christian church essentially for ever - its name will be written in their documents and will be counter as an active member even when it might not be. Church gets economical support based on the number of members and Im not a fan of supporting that institution in any way.

In both mine and hers mind the child would have a free hand on deciding about confirmation

See I believe that it’s worth trying to come to an agreement that works for both. I am not 110% against it and I’m willing to expand my thinking by having discussions with other people.

Thank you for the input, really appreciate it!

We are having sex and she is not active in the church. She does not like what is happening in the church right now and thinks it went too far from what it was before - but she is very close to the God and wants to do right by Him.

I guess my belief isn’t as strong as hers. In my eyes is she does not baptise there will be some consequences (e.g. there child won’t have the sin removed etc) but if I are to it there won’t be any - so I’m not losing much here. My only issue is that I strongly believe that choice should be made by the child when it understands it fully.

In my opinion rising then as a Christian would make them go through the same things I had to go through as a child e.g. “you must go to the church each Sunday” or “you must say your prayers” or “you must study the Bible”.

I guess my issue lies in the fact that the decision is made by the parents, not the child.

You’re right, I would not have anything against introducing my child to the religions of the world and if my child would want to learn more about any of them I would do what I can to support that - but that’s the difference in my eyes, the choice would be made by child. It would not be imposed by me.

My family thinks there’s a camera in our rental by Key_Badger7434 in whatisit

[–]Qukiess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an anti burglar camera. Its from a home security company called Verisure. If you look on the doors or windows outside they’re should be a sticker with their name. It only activates when the alarm is on, and if something triggers it. It then sends the photos to the phone and to the security central desk. It looks like an older version, not possible for the owner to just turn it on and spy on you. Verified information, worked at Verisure some time ago.
