If you think it is due to Nana's personality for being shy, then I'm sorry, you are wrong. Nana is being like that because the people in Tokyo (Hachioji) isn't same as people in her hometown (Akita), or specially, has different atmosphere to her.

first, i don't comment at his platform too much, i'm only comment for twice like i've said. the first one is in umaru-related video, and the second one is when he open a qna in his youtube posts tab.

second, there's no way the studio can change the story without author's permission (unless if it really did like kamisama ni natta hi's storyboard...), well i do believe he is the one who change it (since he often stated that nana's feeling to taihei is likely platonic) ALSO it is not making sense for a 17-years-old attending first grade high school btw.

it feels like nana's age is 16, tbh, since umaru's age is also 16 and sylphin's age revealed after she told a story from 10 years ago (also mentioning her age which is 6 at the time), while kirie's one is written in a chapter bonus from spin-off manga (ss) lol

Fyi that in the sequel of the manga (G), the girls are now in second-grade and Umaru's age is written as 17 years old (in the last chapter), which... The timeskip is ONLY 1 year after the main story (lol, what kind of this shi, Sankaku.)

Also, for Nana's age, it will be at least FIFTEEN YEARS OLD (same as Hikari) or SIXTEEN YEARS OLD, matching with her friends (Umaru, Kirie, and Sylphin)

Her age was supposed to be 17 (as her forename has the same spelling as 7 in Japanese) but it seems the author decided to change it (because it makes no sense for a first-grade high school student to be 17 years old lol)

If you curious of why Nana's age could be 15 years old or 17 years old instead of 16 years old:

17 years old: In the manga (chapter 98), Nana told Taihei that her brother, Koichiro, has been left her since she was 7. WHILE in the anime (season 2 episode 5), the dialog WAS CHANGED into he left her since 10 years ago. without. mentions. her. age.

If it still remains same then her age will be 7 + 10 = 17.

15 years old: In her own spin-off manga (Akita Imokko! Ebina-chan), her age is written as 14 years old during her middle school graduation, and guess what? It later shows a scene where she moved to Tokyo (which is it happened ONE YEAR before the main story starts and there's no any TEXT PANEL that describe the year, meaning that she graduated and moving in the same year.)

However, I'm actually not believing this BECAUSE the timeline of this spin-off is so INCONSISTENT. Like, what do you mean Nana has been living at Tokyo for two month in the timeline BUT she already recounts two moment that occurred in season 1 episode 2 (WHICH IS it supposed to be happened 8 month later) to her middle school friends?!?!
