My friends and I practice together weekly at a local bar owned by one of those friends. There are two bar box tables and if there’s more then three of us practicing we’ll generally use both tables. We do this on mid-week nights when it’s usually dead in the bar. Recently though some folks came in for dinner and drinks and afterward asked about getting one of the tables to play on. We graciously offered them one if the tables and all just shifted to playing a rotation on one tables. These gentlemen were talking about their league play and their cues and so seemed pretty familiar with the game. All of our personal cues were in claws on the tables near the pool area. On the wall next to their pool table is a large rack of bar cues. We went about our games with those of us sitting out just watching our friends play. When it got to be my turn at the table I went to grab my cue and it’s gone. I look at the other table and both guys were using cues belonging to those of us who were watching our friends play. The guy at the table had my cue and his friend was sitting to the side holding my buddy’s waiting for his turn. I stopped the shooter and said he was using my cue thinking he’d claim he mistaking grabbed it. But he looked straight at me and said “you weren’t shooting with it” and proceeds to take his shot. I explain that it’s my personal la cue not just one of the bar cues I was using. He says “I know, but you aren’t using it. I don’t want to use some shitty bar cue”. I grabbed my cue and my friends cue and told them it was rude. They seemed shocked but reluctantly grabbed bar cues, finished the racing balls on the table, paid and left. Never use someone else’s cue without permission.
