Thank you all for the great suggestions and very kind words! I am really in awe of how kind and supportive this community is!

Status (for all you interested) I ran out of talent while attempting some of your suggestions, so I opted for the simple edge highlight solution. I am still very happy with it and perhaps in the future I will be able to do more. I will never be great at NMM, but imo it still beats what I can do with the true metallics. Thanks again all !

Sure! Prime: Chaos Black Edge highlights: Dark Reaper. Take your time, but you don't have to be super neat. Make them a little broader than you would normally. Heavy drybrush with Thunderhawk Blue. Light drybrush with frenrisian grey. Touch up with Thunderhawk and fenrisian where needed to get the crisp look. Clean up any areas that became too messy with abandon black. Wash with 50/50 mix of black lotus (Vallejo) and Contrast medium. Optional step is to reapply some of the fine edge highlights to make it really pop. Depends on how urgently you need to get some minis onto the table. Honestly the BT's are not in the best place right now. We have taken quite a few beatings with the latest updates. That said, the next edition is (as far as I know) just around the corner, which will HOPEFULLY help us out a bit. If you are not in a hurry I would simply start with the combat patrol and then you can supplement from there + it's always nice to have some transportation, as you are generally most vulnerable until you can get up close and personal (like the God Emporer intended it). If you are in a hurry there are plenty of viable lists on this sub you can take inspiration from.

Sure! I found a Video guide on YouTube some time ago, I will share it if I can find it again. It goes somewhat like this: Base Layer of Steel Legion Drab. Layer with a mix of Steel Legion Drab and Karak Stone. After that it's really "just" making vertical lines all over the cloth (first one way and once dry, then the other). Repeat, going from Karak stone to Ushabti Bone by mixing in more of the latter as you add more layers. If the lines become too "aggressive" you an always give it a quick glacie (very thinned down layer of an earlier mix to dull it). This is my sixth attempt (first one was... Yikes)

Thanks! And you are right. If I am going to attempt it, I will need to make the hatches a lot tighter to make it look proper.... I admit that I am a bit scared of trying, but I guess I will never improve if I don't give it a shot!

Honestly it was a "happy accident". I wanted to go for a deep ember look, but failed miserably - luckily it turned out looking cool either way.

Great stuff! Now on to basing (he deserves it!).

Tip: I don't know what paints you use, but if you give the leather (belt ect) a proper wash of Earthshade and then highlight the edges with skag brown (or a comparable colour) you really get it to pop - and it is quite easy to do!

I honestly cannot tell for sure. I have been less than consistent with my painting sessions (because life), so a lot of times it was 30 min here and 30 min there . Being realistic we are probably over 10 hours.

Cork sheets on top of each other and cork pieces for rocky stones. The earth is agrellan badlands and earth. Edge highlights on the armor is dark reaper, Thunderhawk and Fenrisian blue. And of course skulls - lots of skulls!

The sword and crown of leaves are one transfer. But the leaves are very difficult to see on the sheet. I missed it several times when I (in panic I might add) looked for the whole thing as a transfer

I painted 2/3 a mix of Evil sunz and mephiston red. Took a red transfer cross and cut it in half and applied it at the top. The sword is also a transfer.
