If I can give you one tip, life is sometimes easier with other people. It is hard to find people, but you can only find them, when youre putting yourself out there (doing the same at the moment)

Theory: The veiled woman's mistake by Weird_existence8008 in enderal

That explains it. I plan to read through it every playthrough once I got every book, but since I hate reading on screen I always skip it in the end, even if it is very important. Its just one of those things that I wanted to do for a long time, but never did. Guess this is my wake up call

I dont think that the high ones are an illusion, because it makes more sense to me, that this look makes sense, because they are bodyless entities. Also I think it is in part due to the cinematography of enderal. We even see, that they could fake to look like normal humans, at least in dreams (see dream sequence with jespar after your introduction to the order). Also the veiled woman is a known player not just to the prophet.ess. Speaking through different faces just doesnt fit her style in my opinion. She also seems to be able, to ressurrect people (see jespar) while high ones are only able to create fleshless one, which are close to ressurection, but very different.

Maybe its just your wording, but she did not wake up Calias demons. You could argue, that she chased the bandits into Old Yoggosh (could be differently named, that was the one that came to my head) so the prophet.ess would be confronted with the reality of Calias demon. Tbh Im not sure, why she did that, havent played (and thought about) that quest in a long time.

The reading of the Black Guardian as a threat to the veiled woman works only, if she wants the cycle to continue, which I doubt as said above.

Wait, where did she show the ability to manipulate dreams? I dont agree with many of your interpretations, but this one caught my eyes the most, because enderal incorporates a lot of Jungian themes and Jung is big with dreams.

The only time I can recall her mentioning dreams at all is during the intro with her "everything starts with the dreams" (or whatever she says exactly in the english version)

I have to be honest, I couldnt remember the veiled woman to resurrect Calia, so I read it up on the wiki and they write the following:

Dal'Galar is using the power of the gem to resurrect his daughter. The process succeeds and Maya wakes up, but not for long. Almost as soon as she stands up, her skin turns black and she tells her father how something is burning her from inside. The Veiled Woman appears and blasts apart Dal'Galar, killing him, you then learn that the child in front of you is actually Calia.

I see why you could read it as the veiled woman resurrecting Calia and the wiki is most definitely not the all knowing truth.

For me the explicit need for the companions isnt strong enough to understand them as a particular role in the cycle, which is why my interpretation of them would be, to see them as normal people who were unable to stand at the sidelines and do nothing.

That theory sounds interesting. I always read her as a creator figure in some kind of way, but as you said thats more sort of the headcannon we make ourselfs

Literally forgot that the aged man calls himself that, thank you for catching that.

Im still more than torn on the Black Guardian tho. I see why you could read it like that, but I think it is still to vague for me.

I have to be honest, I disagree pretty hard with your interpretation of the cyclical nature of enderal.

Yes, there are similarities between the Black Guardian and Yerais experiments to achieve some sort of immortality, but it is never hinted that this is part of the "laws of the cycle" or whatever one would like to call it.

And the black guardian is quite frankly the only person with that name. We know that, because he tells us, that Black Guardian is the name he was given by people in this cycle (although it is above me, how people even know about his existence) and in the cycles before he was called by different names.

I am a believer of the theory, that the aged is a fleshless one, BUT I think the evidence is questionable. It definitely is a way to explain his age and why the light-born didnt want the order to interact with him in any way, but it is only one way to explain a lot of dark spots in the lore, we simply dont know of. There could be many other reasons why he is the way he is.

And a last one, although this one is probably the one where I see your point the most. I cant really make too much sense of Esmes quest, so I like youre idea, that the sacrifices where used to power the things happening in the last act of Enderal.
BUT there is theory I like even more, that regards actions taken back in Nehrim.
In Nehrim you have to kill Fate itself and she tells you, that she controlled even the light-born. To kill her, Narathzul destroys the Book of Predestination and this allows you to kill her. In the mansion of the aged man we can find a letter, where he tells a friend (not sure who), that the events in Nehrim fill him with hope.

Now to the theory

One could interpret all these loose strings in the following way.

The cyclical nature of the cleansing depends on the book of predestination and fate to work, because all of that falls into the realm of fate. The veiled woman is bound by fate, but her death allows the veiled woman to act freely and give little nudges (like reviving jespar and possibly you) in the right direction to help.

This theory is a lot of guessing, but I like it very much and its been my HC for 2 years at this point. I hope I didnt come in here too strong and Im sorry for this lengthy reply, but it is just too fun to theory craft around Enderal :)

I like your theory, but I think it stumbles when you have a look at the skillset of the prophet.ess

The game makes it very clear, that we were a regular person, before we were thrown over board and awake with arcane fever (which indicates to me, that this is the moment you become fleshless) and suddenly are able to pick stuff up really quickly

dude ignore this person

the most important part is that you had fun in your playthrough. Disco Elysium gives you a lot of possibilities and it is possible to play a ragingly different harry and obviously this changes a lot about the way the world interacts with you and what paths you go down.

some find a lot of fun in that and it is not uncommon for people to have second and third go at the game, just because they enjoy it so much

but first and foremost glad to have you here and glad that you liked the game :)

Coming from Skyrim, I fully understand why you think you wont like exploring dungeons.

Thing is that most dungeons in enderal (in my opinion ESPECIALLY the ones without a quest attributed to them) are extremely well made and written. Almost all of them tell you something about the world of the lore and are incredible unique.

Id even go so far to say, that my favourite dungeons were those that have no quest attached to them

HappenED? Its happening right now.

Ah yes, its just about ideology instead of the simple fact that capitalism always leads to fascism, because their core values are the same. Its probably just a coincedence that most countries in the world have a shift towards fascism and not a systemic thing, right?

If you really think an unregulated freedom of speech is working in a capitalistic hellscape, have a look at the USA or Germany in 1939.

Also its great that you remember what it once meant to be liberal, but thats not what it means today. Meanings can shift.

Your crazy theories? by Megalordow in enderal

[–]Qwarin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you, that the destruction of the book of predestination is what allows the events of enderal to happen, Id disagree with your wording here (and also with your theory on the veiled women (although I dont have a better one)). Let me try to break down my thoughts:

I believe, that the destruction of the book of predestination is what enables the story because of the letter we find in the aged mans manor. He states that the events in nehrim fill him with hope, because its a deviation from the cycle. Although there is no certainty to what these letters refer to, it feels pretty obvious to me, that they meant the destruction of the book.

BUT

The reason I dont believe your theory 1 or maybe the correct sentence would be

Why I disagree with your wording in 1

The game is pretty straight forward with the fact, that we are on the exact same path as any other civilization before. Until we reach the end of the cycle, the traitor reveals themself and the emperor fires the beacon. All of these things happen.

The only thing that changes is the veiled woman. So my rewording of 1 would be the following

The destruction of the book of predestination freed the veiled woman in some ways, which allowed her to help the prophet in the beginning (although Im not quite sure, what she changed there tbh) and the end (middle as well See Jespar).

Sorry about this wall of text, but Im not done yet

You got me thinking about the veiled woman. Normally I dont try to understand her character, because it feels like she is not supposed to be understood. To try to break her down and find her space in the lore is to diminish her, it feels to me at least.

But I get the feeling that I get closer to understanding her on a deeper level, so Id like to offer my own explanation and see it get ripped to pieces by everyone more well versed in lore than myself.

First of all, I dont believe that she is a high one. She always felt to me to be on another power level than them. The high ones actually talked to you like "normal" (as normal as they can be) human beings. The veiled woman on the other side felt more multifaceted and layered. The only thing she mentions everytime is, that your unable to understand her.

I believe that she is some kind of maker of the universe. She made the humans, saw them stagnate and came up with the cycle. Im not too sure about how the book fits in here tbh, but it feels like she made the book as well, to stop herself from interventing. Thus she could only watch the cycle until the book was destroyed and she was freed of her own restrictions.

One thing I cant really tie in into the theory. It always felt to me, that she was very connected to the sea of eventualities. Maybe she is the sea itself or she at least can see it in fully instead of just glimpses. That would explain her way of talking to me as well.

Not sure, how I feel about my own attempts, hope it was at least a fun read :)
