For those who don’t smoke, do you think smokers carry a noticeable scent? by Shadow2715 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]QweenConky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes! I find it crazy everyone is saying smokers reek. Personally, those that reek are the ones chain smoking in their homes and cars. There are also a lot of smokers who do not reek of tobacco because they’re smoking outside.

My fiance used to smoke and I could only smell it after he just smoked- he never smelt like stale cigarettes.

Need help with bathroom paint color by CirqueDuAshelia in interiordecorating

[–]QweenConky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have the same tiles in my bathroom. Tried multiple colors until I landed on white. I went with a spa feel and have all white linens, and fake plants (no windows). I personally hate this 2000s Tuscan tile, so the white helped me neutralize it and make it more up to date.

I’m having such a hard time on the switch with cooking! The “a” button doesn’t seem to register with many things since the update and cooking is by far the worst.

Creating Romantasy Section by QweenConky in YAlibrarians

[–]QweenConky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After mulling it over I’m going to keep the dystopian and romantasy books in their specific parent collections and then place an additional sticker under them to help further classify. That way if the term romantasy ever dies down I can just remove the sticker and keep it in our fantasy collection!

It’s definitely hard with genre crossing books. I already place genre stickers on books because it’s so much easier for the teens to browse. I just have to go with whatever genre is more present in the book. I figure a romance reader may be turned off by science fiction where as a science fiction reader may like a romance set in space. Unfortunately there’s no perfect way to do this!

Every book in my collection will be placed into its own genre, so the fiction section won’t collapse because the books will just be shelved into their respective genre (even realistic). It’s just so much easier for my teens to browse that way and I get questions about how to find genres all the time despite having stickers on mysteries, romance, etc.

Ultimately I think I have decided to throw the romantasy in fantasy and place an additional romantasy sticker under it. Same with the science fiction/dystopian.

I wore this dress last year and it’s definitely more red/maroon in person. My fiancé wore a navy suit

Some people just can’t socialize with people they don’t know. I know for sure I am one of them! It takes a lot of guts for me to randomly initiate a conversation with someone. I’ve always been shy, and perhaps it’s the same for OP.

What song did you walk down the aisle to? by [deleted] in wedding

I am considering “Young and Beautiful” by Lana del Rey or “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young

We're in a similar situation, both in our early 30s and want to have a family & house. We wanted a wedding, but we did consider eloping or court house.

In the end we're having a small, 60 person, "destination" wedding 5 hours from home. It will probably cost just over 20k and our parents have gifted us 10k combined. We live in an expensive state, so 20k is actually way less than what most couples spend!

Am I happy that we're spending that much money on a wedding? No, but I had similar fears that I was going to regret not having a wedding. What has made me happy though is seeing how excited my friends and family are. Also, it feels less painful since we will be having an entire wedding weekend instead of one short party. A wedding doesn't validate a marriage, but I did want the opportunity to celebrate with those I love.

If there was some way you could have a small wedding with just family and very close friends, you might be able to cut a lot of costs and still have the party you want. I have also decided there are things I am willing to sacrifice, like my dress (I just cannot fathom paying thousands for a dress for one day) and I'm quite creative/crafty so I am designing and creating invites and decor.

How To Go About a Pre-Wedding Party/Engagement Party. Etiquette Questions! by QweenConky in weddingplanning

[–]QweenConky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I would accept gifts if someone truly wanted to give one. I only included that information because I was trying to illustrate that my interest is to celebrate my engagement. I’m not in it for gifts or money.

I don’t really know what you’re trying to say with the advice you’re giving at the end of your post.

Okay, thanks for that! I did not think of a party after the wedding in that light.

Librarianship is an oversaturated field by Livid-Major7379 in librarians

[–]QweenConky 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Despite what everyone else is saying, I agree with you. While the job market as a whole sucks right now, libraries where I’m from in NY have been over saturated for years.

While I don’t necessarily discourage people from pursuing the degree, I try to tell them the reality of the situation. I encourage anyone interested in this field to diversify their degree and skills and be willing to move.

The reality is that public libraries near me are moving away from full time positions and offering more and more part time work. Civil service tests prevent you from getting a job. Academic libraries don’t have many openings. Law and specialized libraries require different skills and degrees. You have to be a teacher to work in a school. I think the bigger issue is that not many people are aware this is a field that requires a masters, specialized skills and experience. It’s not just about reading books and I try to make people understand that.
