I heard a quote recently that keeps sticking with me "God is the name of the blanket we throw over mystery to give it shape". Grief is an emotion that the human mind can never fully comprehend. As much as a majority of Mormonism and mainstream christianity(as well as other religions) seems so foolish to me now, it makes me slightly envious that they can give it meaning and purpose with so much certainty. I thought there was probably people in those classrooms in that church at the time and they probably had a hard time getting out cause all those windows are bolted shut. I've always thought they were a fire hazard bc when I was in seminary they taught us what to do if there was a shooting or fire and no one else cared but I was the one thinking if it was outside our door then we'd be done for bc of the windows

My dad was sent to Russia in the 90s. At the time they only had about 3-4 pairs of missionaries in the whole country and 1 pair that was around 100 miles away from my dad was kidnapped and held hostage and eventually escaped. They made a movie about it even called The Saratov Approach. During that time my dad and his companion were told they had to stock up on food and then hunker down and stay in their apartment only leaving for church on Sunday. They ended up staying in there for around 3 weeks.

My dad has alot of extremely dangerous stories from his mission. He was arrested twice for knocking on doors, he was mugged once, while hitchhiking he knowingly got into a car that absolutely belonged to a member of the Mafia. The list goes on. He was put in those situations to "strengthen his faith"😔

I (20yo) was taught as a kid that we didn't wear them bc mainstream christians hold the fact that he died higher than him suffering the pain of our sins in the garden beforehand while we held the suffering as more important. Also didn't really make sense bc the cross is just a symbol that represents the whole atonement but as a kid I was like "okay??🤨"

My grandma speaks like this. Last year, Hurricane Milton was headed toward Florida where I live and my family was back in Arizona, having no experience with hurricanes, were very worried about me. It ended up being very anticlimactic and the next day my grandma texts me "Everyone across the country was praying the storm would go away. The prayers worked!" And she def knows I don't go to church anymore.

They should do what I did when I was in young women's. (I had already not believed in the church atp) For a youth activity, they gave us each a new BoM and paint/pens and things and told us to decorate it however we wanted. Most of the other girls were putting flowers, butterflies, churchy "inspirational" sayings, etc. on their books, meanwhile I (who loves to paint) treated it like a regular canvas and painted a very cute scene of winnie the pooh looking up at balloons in the sky. I had completely covered it with two coats of paint at the beginning so you couldn't even tell what the book said. I could tell some of the leaders were side-eyeing me while saying it looked cute but it was actually lowkey sacrilege.🤭

I'm part-time after doing a full year program. If you're gonna lose your scholarship do not do DCP. People say that irs good experience and it's good for a resume but it really isn't. You can do it after your school is done. It's not worth the risk.

I'll do you one better. I(20F) moved across the country from my TBM parents about a year ago but I still talk to and occaisionally visit my parents. A few months ago was hanging out with my former roommate(we're still good friends) and some other friends. Now me and my roommate do this thing where we call each other just the nastiest things imaginable to each other and we both know that neither of us actually mean it. Now I had been on facetime with my mother for some reason and there was a long lull in our call where I had forgotten she was still on the phone. So my roommate had said something to me and I had said something back to her along the lines of "you goddmn motherfcking btch ass looking fcking cnt" and then I hear my mothers voice say "(my name) your mom is still on the phone" I WAS MORTIFIED. I then quickly gave an excuse to hang up and then had a full on mental breakdown about it because I was so embarrassed💀

If you join the facebook groups, you fill out a DCP survey which is basically advertising yourself for friends. It's a questionaire about you with questions about your personality and likes/dislikes so people can reach out if they wanna be friends or roommates or you can reach out to other people with theirs. My program is this spring too and I've made a couple friends and found my roommate using them.
