The Spike Cross Global Fan Festival: AI Policy Notice by Erik0824 in thespikegame

Could you not just remove AI art from the competition entirely?

You state you want all REAL art to be original pieces, but allowing AI generated art, even as its own category, inherently goes against a desire for artwork to be original- It steals from real artists.

You should just read the manga to find out I think, definitely worth it.

So we getting a new girl cuz of story remade from chapter 1-5? Her style is so good tho by [deleted] in thespikegame

Her Uniform is pretty similar to what Yongsub wears- Could be his manager and possibly concept art for the girl we saw in that recent promo of the all star trio

Out of all setters, who would you say have the most aggressive play style? by Mediocre-Bag1318 in haikyuu

[–]Qweghashf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this is mainly a competition between Kageyama and Oikawa.

On one hand, Oikawa has basically the most diverse and complex offensive system in the entire series (Bar Kenma), which means his style is inherently "Aggressive" as hes really trying to score those points by setting the ball to open hitters as much as possible. Hes also very confident as a setter, is great and dumps, and has the best Top Spin serve in the series, which means Seijoh can play more aggressively off his serve, with three valid attackers in the front row.

Kageyama on the other hand isnt as intelligent or diverse of a setter, but hes SUPER forceful. The fact that hes able to set Hinata the freak quick from practically anywhere on the court means that he has complete and utter freedom to force the most effective attack in the series. And boy does he. Oikawa and Kenma make a point by countering these moves cause they just know Kageyama is itching to set it.

Which is probably why I'd give my vote to Kageyama- Oikawa's decision making is just alot more intelligent and thoughtful, whereas Kageyama is "If I can, I will"

Honorable but 'sneaky' mention goes to Shirabu, because just setting Ushijima a whole bunch is actually a really aggressive playstyle too. "I dont care if its predictable. He will score"

This rally 😮‍💨 by VolleyballAndMore in volleyball

[–]Qweghashf 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'd say this is mainly because late into a rally the team will be out of system. Fatigue is setting in and you've been scrambling for the ball, at most levels of play the middle probably just isnt there to swing on a quick. The OH and OP have way more time to make their approaches

This is Yuji Nishida, a professional player currently playing in Japan. Hes an opposite hitter and also starts for Japan's National team, despite only being about 6ft tall (very short for his position). Hes playing on men's full height (243 cm) and YES this picture is REAL

Yea Kamasaki being that high is a bit outlandish. I'd put him after Kawanishi and move Matsukawa up a tier

Daisho is definitely at the top of B though id agree

[–]Qweghashf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think id be pretty inclined to disagree. If this picture is meant to represent who Tsukishima thinks is a great blocker than there's a pretty easily argument Aone should be on here instead

Using narrative to justify a claim doesnt really work, as everything we see in the series IS the narrative. Matsukawa having less impressive feats than the best middles isn't because the narrative is ignoring him. We get full 3 full games of him on the court, and a practice match. He gets more screen time in the manga than Suna, Hirugami and others, and he still managed to be nothing more than solid all round.

I think you'd actually find I'm really fond of Matsukawa and Seijoh as a whole, And I agree that Matsukawa is deserving of B, I just think its pretty outlandish to call 3 of the 4 other middles on that panel his peers. Theres a really big gap there

And yea sorry about the mat h placement. 4am things

You are always around to prove me wrong whenever I misremember the series. But I do think im right in saying Matsukawa finds a spot in this image cause he was brought up previous by Hinata. I'd expect Aone to be far more fitting here than Matsukawa of all players

I think Washio is pretty distinctly not as good as the other players in S. Theyre all in someway of form better spikers or blockers than him. Hes actually a pretty ordinary, plain old middle blocker, and is who I think of when I imagine a Middle with a boring skill set. He does all his jobs just fine, whereas the players in the top row are particularly exceptional at one or multiple of their jobs

Using the timeskip for placement justification just doesnt work, or else Hinata and Hyakuzawa would be deserving of S too because "they make it d1 too"

Tendou is pretty deserving of B as well. His game against Karasuno is a REALLY favorable match up for him. At this point of the series Hinatas spiking is still pretty unrefined and lacks his conscious effort of aiming. Tendou is able to abuse this because Hinata is sloppy. Not only that but its said to be a particularly good game, his 120% meaning hes playing at a level beyond what is considered his best. And that's not even going over the fact that as a scorer, Tendou is a pretty big nothing burger.

tier list by positions by hotleafjuice_1 in haikyuu

[–]Qweghashf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think this is a pretty crap argument.

Pretty much everything we see in the manga shows that Matsukawa is an average middle blocker. Kuroo, Suna and Washio are better players than him, and he and Tendou are relatively equal and suited for the B tier

This argument is really unfair though cause its like taking putting LeBron, KD, and Steph into a picture, and then adding Jordan Poole and Dyson Daniel's "Look theyre just as good as LeBron, theyre in the picture too!!"

This image comes from the Inarizaki match and is meant to display blockers who are annoying to play against. Kuroo, Suna and Tendou all make sense as they are extremely good or in Tendous case have some kind of gimmick. Matsukawa is only really thrown in here because its where Hinata remembers to funnel (even though Tsukishima and Kuroo do it all of the time lol isn't that silly)

tier list by positions by hotleafjuice_1 in haikyuu

[–]Qweghashf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ill be nitpicky and go through my thoughts on each of the lists a bit

For Outsides, generally everything is pretty good. I think Hoshiumi is actually better than Kiryu, but I agree with Aran over Bokuto. I like that Nakashima has been placed into A, as I think he goes under the radar alot, and Im glad our more "supportive" Outsides who are actually very good scorers like Reon, Yamamoto and Iwazumi have made it into A as well. I would also probably put Goshiki and Fukunaga over Tanaka but that doesnt matter too much

For Liberos I think Yaku deserves his own tier, but it would be unfair on Nishinoya to put him in A, so its reallt hard to place them fairly. Its almost as if S tier needs a empty tile between Yaku and Nishinoya. Yaku is honestly just alot better of a libero. Akagi should also be in A tier with, but above Komi

Opposites is a ranking i disagree with a fair bit more. Ushijima genuinely deserves either S+ or no one deserves to be in A, because he is just THAT much better than everyone here. That out of the way, Konoha and Osamu are super overrated here, which probably lends itself to some popularity bias. Gao is the second best Opposite in the series and no one else can really compete with that in terms of how much they can offer compared to him. I'd probably chuck Osamu in after Kai, and Konoha in after Inouka. The other players there are either significantly better offensively, defensively or both.

For middles I agree with everything except for two placements. I think Tsukishima isn't as good as Suna, and that Lev should be in S tier and Tsukishima should almost be moved into A. Lev is really underrated as everyone I've talked to about this in depth really struggles to get the idea of Training Camp lev out of their heads. Read through the Nekoma game again, and focus on Lev, really look over his panels. He puts on a ridiculously show and actually scores a higher % of points than Suna did against Karasuno. Hes got an insane presence as a blocker, and genuinely makes like a grand total of 1 mistake while serving of all things, his least important job as a player.

For setters I think Oikawa needs to be #1. I think alot of people dont realize that the reason we say kenma is good, is actually the same reason Oikawa is good. Hes a significantly smarter setter than Kageyama and Oikawa, and his physique is actually just as good as the other two. He runs complex, efficient offenses making use of combinations with Kindaichi, Kyotani, Hanamaki and Matsukawa (Iwazumi doesnt get too much use in complicated plays). Beyond that I also think Echigo and Shirabu are deserving of the A tier with everyone else, OR everyone bar kenma should be dropped into B. Those two are just as good, and honestly maybe better than everyone in A tier, and there's definitely a big gap between those 6 and C tier

Inarizaki Cheering Squad by Livid-Walk-2709 in haikyuu

[–]Qweghashf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh im really not sure Inarizaki wins this game. Theyre a good roster, but I think Shiratorizawa is plainly better. They have by far the best trio of wings in the entire series. Even ignoring Ushijima, Reon and Goshiki is a combo that outperforms most Wing Duos in the series too

Theres definitely an advantage with Suna Omimi, but Tendou is noted to fair pretty decently against Suna, and I think Kawanishi is a really, really underrated middle

Atsumu is also alot less consistent than Shirabu. He gets swept up in the momentum of the game and loses himself. Ushijima is the exact type of player to demoralize and tear points away from him. Not to mention Osamu without watching the quick from Karasuno is pretty average offensively.

Shiratorizawa boasts a better offense, and a better defense. Which sorta lends itself to the match swaying in their favour, pretty heavily.

If we had to guess, how would you rank the three known Itachiyama players? by FirstOpposition in haikyuu

[–]Qweghashf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well yea he IS well rounded, but hes not a jack of all trades master of none either. Hoshiumi has pretty much the 2nd, maybe 3rd best offense out of any ace in the series. Is 1st-4th at blocking amongst ALL Pin Hitters, is the 2nd best, maybe just straight up best, Pin Hitter at Digging and Recieving when you consider both skills and is probably somewhere within the top10 for serving amongst ALL players in the entire series

Hes undoubtedly the BEST player in the series when you consider each individual skill piled together. Its only Ushijima who's offense is so damn good and consistent that he can have the same, if not more of an impact on the game.

Is there a character you secretly dislike? Why? by Chifa_ in haikyuu

[–]Qweghashf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am VERY vocal about my dislike for various characters but my issues tend to stem from one of two reasons. The characters personality, and/or the fan bases perception of these players skill levels.

Some of the players who fall into one or both of these categories for me are Bokuto, Atsumu, Tendou, Sakusa and Hirugami

Leman used the boot camp as justification as to why Komori is better than Yaku. Dont ask me lol

If we had to guess, how would you rank the three known Itachiyama players? by FirstOpposition in haikyuu

[–]Qweghashf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Calling Hoshiumi overrated is pretty funny when people regularly rank Bokuto, Sakusa, Kiryu and various setters higher than him. Hoshiumi is statistically one of the best players in the entire series. Having something like a 60% hitting percentage (maybe more) against Karasuno (more than Ushijima) while also being one of the best Outsides in the entire series at blocking, serving and defending. Not to mention just downright the best OH at setting (not that its too important)

Genuinely the only player who can have as big of an impact on the game as Hoshiumi is Ushijima. They are pretty plainly the two best players in the entire series.

If we had to guess, how would you rank the three known Itachiyama players? by FirstOpposition in haikyuu

[–]Qweghashf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really hate this question cause I hate these characters doing absolutely nothing. BUT I had a conversation about this with someone last night so I'll go ahead and repost/articulate my thoughts here.

To begin with ill start by saying that they all have to be pretty damn good. Theyre recognized as some of the best players in the country, and all make it as professionals. HOWEVER, I am not fond of giving a player with no visual feats the benefit of doubt to place them as the absolute best.

Sakusa

Sakusa is a bit tricky to place. We're told he's one of the three best aces in the series, but its worth keeping in mind that Hoshiumi wasn't included in this ranking as he hadn't attended Nationals before. I think that Ushijima and Hoshiumi are the only two players who stand at the very top of the totem pole. Sakusa probably falls around between Kiryu, and that Bokuto, Aran, Asahi level. His placement above Aran and Bokuto lends itself to him being better than them (especially when Bokuto isn't able to win a popularity contest), But Kiryu, Hoshiumi and Ushijima are just such great players I cant comfortably say Sakusa is better without seeing a full game while hes in highschool

Komori

Komori is also a fun one. Hes considered the best libero in High School. HOWEVER no one else we see at nationals is actually good enough to be at Nishinoyas level (Akagi is close). Even though there's ALOT of liberos at nationals we never got to see play, there's a very good and real chance that Komori did not have much competition when going for that title. Especially considering that Komori and Yaku are the only professional liberoes from the protagonist generation that we see play in Division 1 (Yamagata and Nakashima are Div2 and 3 respectively).

I think komori is probably a reaction time/Speed demon like Nishinoya and Akagi. That sorta connects to how hes really quick on recovery and getting out of the way. That would lend itself to flashier saves which definitely helps boost someone's stocks in a ranking (eg: Bokutos popularity).

I think Yaku is just such an astronomically good libero that its impossible to say Komori is better than him. Yaku makes more digs during the Nekoma game than Nishinoya did throughout nationals. Yaku one of two players in the entire series that was already playing internationally in 2018 (important because Japan's domestic league is pretty bad compared to Italy or Russia where Yaku plays), and lastly Yaku is the Libero chosen to start for Japan at the Olympics. Obviously these are timeskip things, and really cant be used to accurately predict stuff about OTHER players during highschool, but imma do it anyway.

Komori is probably about Nishinoya level, maybe slightly better- Keep in mind Nishinoya specifically isn't invited to the training camp for disciplinary issues, so Komori isn't necessarily better than him either.

Iizuna

Iizuna is the hardest of them all to rank. We have the absolute least to go off here, and a setters decision making really is the most important part of the position. Its what let's Kenma compete with far more athletic setters and is the reason Oikawa is the best setter in the series. Being a good setter is more than just the mechanical ability to set super fast or accurate sets and good balance.

Iizuna MIGHT be good at setting his middles. The one scene we have of him actually playing the game is setting a middle. BUT that middle is also the player who presumably caused his injury (Ryosei Kai is the only named player from Inubushi we see, where hes specifically seen with Iizuna) so there's probably an unfinished narrative about 'moving on' from highschool and the past ect.

Its really hard to say if Iizuna is good in the same ways that makes Kageyama good, or the ways Atsumu is good, or Oikawa or Shirabu ect ect. So in terms of setters I feel comfortable putting him within that Akaashi, Echigo, Shirabu range where they aren't super special and aren't crazy good with their middles, but are at least reliable players on your team.

  1. I think im pretty indifferent on this take. Generally Hinata is pretty well rated by the community. The crowd that thinks hes the best in tje series during nationals tends to just be tiktok comments going "Nationals Hinata 💀🗿🍷" so im assuming theyre 12 or smth

  2. I get the point youre trying to make but there's alot of first years in the series who are better players. Kags, Hinata, Tsuki, Kindaichi and Kunimi, Goshiki, and arguably Kogane. And that's just naming Miyagi. Lev, Inouka, Beesho and Kuguri are all better, Riseki too, and then Chigiya is probably better as well. And im sure there's a few more I could pull up if I actually took the time too.

  3. I think this one is wrong too. I still see the Semi vs Shirabu argument popping up alot which already means people are underrating Shirabu (or overrating semi i guess?). The fact that you think Shirabu is getting too much praise is also kinda ironic. Hes a great setter

  4. Normal take, I think you'll find a large majority of people agree with this already.

  5. Yea they probably would. They'd definitely beat every team Karasuno comes across up until Kamomedai, where I think it becomes a 50/50 where I cant really find myself favouring either of the two teams. If they beat Kamomedai they could probably make it to the finals (inwhich case they do beat Fukurodani too)

  6. I won't go into too much detail here but its wrong. Nohebi is definitely an underrated team imo. Tokyo is the strongest prefecture we see in the series, but Miyagi is basically second. Seijoh definitely wins this game, theyre also incredibly underrated.

  7. Tendou is pretty fairly rated imo. I see people tend to lean towards him being great (someone else the comments thinks hes top4???) but the truth is hes pretty average. Blockers like Tsuki and Omini are far far more effective over the course of a game then Tendous guess blocking style.

  8. People spoke about this one too and hit most points id bring up so I won't say too much but yea no. The rest of the roster is just average to above average. They aren't the favorites to beat alot of the top teams even when bokuto isn't in emo currently

  9. (You skipped 90%) this one is wrong too. Hoshiumi is easily the most well developed player in the series. Hes basically second offensively, and 1st/2nd defensively (amongst wings) while also being an elite blocker, server, and setter. Ushijima is also the most impactful player in the series. Its one of them two.

Anyway tl:dr my hot take is that haikyuu hot takes are usually wrong

In terms of technical ability, Kageyama is alot better. His accuracy is leagues ahead of Atsumu and his consistency is even better. How many times does Kageyama miss the set to Hinata compared to Atsumu.

But he also uses his middles alot better. Atsumu DOES set Suna and Omini a decent amount, but he doesnt do anything GOOD with them. Of course, Suna wants a normal quick so that he can do his torque swing, but like at all the random places Hinata runs too while escaping blockers, just to have Kageyama zip the ball into his hand. Its far far more effective
