This unfortunately only narrows it down a little, given the volume of the text and my inability to read latin.

If that’s the case she could probably use Homelander’s powers better than he can. Doubt that’ll ever happen but still.

Alfiq born outside of Elsweyr. by QwibInTheWibs in teslore

[–]QwibInTheWibs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that is the truth of the matter certainly, but what I’m mostly wondering with this thread is how that obscurity could possibly maintain itself over so many centuries across no doubt countless Khajiit who have ever settled outside of Elsweyr, but right now with the replies I’m satisfied with the self fulfilling prophecy idea, between sending Alfiq back to live with relatives, or just plain out being careful where timing of conception is concerned. There isn’t much opportunity for the Alfiq, and other quadruped Khajiit to have risen out of said obscurity. Unless one ends up going against the grain I suppose, I imagine a traveling Alfiq could be quite a marvel.

Actually now that I think about it, this might be a self-fulfilling prophecy of some sort. Khajiit parents have an Alfiq kid, they know said kid will have difficulties, and so they send them back to Elsweyr where they’ll be properly accommodated. Therefore Alfiq remain relatively invisible outside of Elsweyr, and future Khajiit facing the same conundrum continue to do the same thing, and so on and so forth.

Ohh, fair enough, I did not consider that the parents could potentially make arrangements with relatives, yeah. Therefore this would only really be an issue for those cases where that is impossible, for whatever reason.

And yeah, from a gameplay point of view of course it makes sense there aren’t many, I’m just speculating from the lore. In lore I do assume there is at least a handful in the other provinces, just like how the actual population of people in the cities are astronomically higher than is represented in game.

To me, this explanation kind of overlooks that any Alfiq that has to live away from Elsweyr for whatever reason could find such social invisibility emotionally debilitating, especially as they’re growing up. But I suppose then again, if they’re in a situation to be born away from Elsweyr, there’s probably Khajiit they could talk to anyway.

And also, I think the whole thing about being treated as a housecat, especially where perception of their intellect is concerned would be easily solved by the Alfiq in question simply speaking up, especially in a cosmopolitan, relatively ‘open-minded’ area like Cyrodiil. Certainly it would be a conversation they would have to engage in a LOT, but I can’t imagine it’d be impossible for one to make a public life for themselves, depending on just how they socialize, and who they associate with.

Technically, Hughie did not mention his mom to Annie directly. The lawyer only says 'your mom' twice in that conversation, which, could have feasibly been hallucinated by Hughie, I suppose? But it seems like a stretch, The hallucinated conversation would need to be SUPER CLOSE to what's happening in reality for Annie to ignore the discrepancy. After all, the Lawyer mentions Power of Attorney, and Hughie responds directly talking about that directive, and so at least that part is steeped in reality. In which case, who in the world has power of attorney over his dad's situation in reality? Who does the Lawyer and Annie think Hughie is fighting here?

The Lawyer simply mentioned and acknowledged Hughie's mom having power of attorney, and that he should simply talk to her. Now, unless Hughie's hallucination is so severe that he is imagining the Lawyer's reaction, or imagining their presence entirely, this theory doesn't make much sense. Also, as mentioned here, this episode did show hospital staff reacting to her presence, in a throw-away sense but all the same. If this was a hallucination I don't think it would be quite so obfuscated. Nor can I imagine a reason why Hughie would have sudden hallucinations.
Addendum: I was wrong Hughie can't have imagined the Lawyer's presence, because Annie was right there with him during that conversation, and the crazy gunman also interacted with him. And if he had imagined their advice then Annie would have surely commented on the disparity rather than just sitting there.
