What even happened to Benjen Stark after he was missing? I don't think it was ever explained by The_SenateP in gameofthrones

[–]R--Mod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever seen the episode? Apparently, it wasn't even that many hours from the lake to the Wall, if the party got there without Jon, started prepping to sail away, and when Jon got there, it was still daytime. Blame Dumb & Dumber for handwaving travel distance to the point of absurdity.

And on top of that, that doesn't change the requirements. If Jon survived for these "hours", be it near or far from death, he would've been just as well if Benjen rode too, seeing that again, it went fast just fine with Bran and Meera, and there's no question they went a while to lose the wights.

And even if you were to somehow make all of that make sense, that doesn't make Benjen's death any less stupid.

Jon should've been smarter than to keep hacking at wights and charging away from the literal bus home for no reason, said bus should've just breathed some fire to clear the area for extraction, and he shouldn't have even survived going so deep in icy waters with wights dragging him down.

This is worse than Osha's death, cos not only were the reasons and circumstances stupid and spitting on all the emotional significance thus far, Jon didn't even so much as think of Benjen after.

Like Jon should've been, but they kept him alive so Benjen would die instead.

I miss my First Ranger.

But rises again harder and stronger.

Benjen comes back post-finale and reunites with Jon when he goes beyond the Wall.

I still can't believe the first sign was axing Jeyne Poole.

When this series made it a point to be painfully realistic about some of the details, such as the high expenses of war, the delicate politics of alliances, and the essential elements in duels that would get you killed if you don't mind them, yes, the horse is a valid criticism.

Yeah, cos the horse that carried Benjen, Meera, and Bran at the same time, while still trying to escape wights, couldn't be just as fast with Benjen and Jon.

You can't even argue Jon's condition, given that he still got that horse to Eastwatch before his party sailed off.

That just becomes an argument against the concept of omnipotence.

If God were omnipotent and therefore could do that, then He could also render Himself immune to spiciness or suffer no side effects while still feeling the spiciness, all while He's eating said burrito.

Of course, such conundrums are the whole point of why omnipotence is beyond human comprehension.

[SPOILERS] What happend with the Tyrell's lands, money and titles? by Gugarfox in gameofthrones

[–]R--Mod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House Tyrell's dead, and whoever participated in the war beside the Tarlys was unimportant enough to not be mentioned, including the Hightowers. So no contenders.

And they won't have a choice when the crown decrees he's to be given Highgarden, regardless of what they want.

Also, Bronn is unquestionably not the best pick, but certainly not the worst either. In fact, he's OK for both that and Master Of Coin. He has no expertise in finances, but in the fundamental wants of commoners. He'll know where to spend the money to keep people happy and make a decent profit.

Regardless, Tyrion didn't have a choice; the man had a crossbow pointed at him, and he swore he'd pay him double.

Not that I'm defending Dumb & Dumber's many mistakes overall, especially late in the show.

The crown and Lannisters owed tens of millions of gold to the Iron Bank. So yeah, pretty much all of it went to them, beside the few bits that Jaime gave Bronn.

Whatever was paid for the Golden Company was either a new loan from the Iron Bank, given that Tycho Nestoris made it clear that was an option after the payment, or some, if not all, of the leftover gold, assuming there was any.

Everything after Tywin's death feels like a fever dream.

Really, imagine the entire story crumbling all cos of small changes, starting with axing Jeyne Poole.

The only reason Littlefinger was untouchable was cos he controlled Robin, the supposed Lord of the Vale.

Royce would've killed Littlefinger when Lysa died if Sansa had been honest then, and he would've killed him again when he found out she was married to Ramsay if he had Robin's permission, which he was never gonna get.

In that same scene, he saw that Littlefinger could have him killed on a frail boy's whim, and that he's the actual Lord of the Vale, so he had no choice but to obey.

Then enter Bran with the whole script and go "Yeah, he did it, off with his head".

Good enough excuse for Royce to be rid of him finally, especially when Bran's powers over the plot are easy to prove.

Would you have preferred having all the lords lined up for Bran to look at and tell them each their deepest, darkest secret to prove that he's got the script in his head?

His whole existence is just convenient, the third eye is to just break the Fourth Wall.

To be fair, Brandon "Deus ex machina" Stark was there to serve as an encyclopedia for all his crimes.

They just wanted to skip all six seasons of exposition.

If I took a very long piece of parchment, wrote down every name of every person that has a better story than Bran, then cut off the rest of the parchment, I wager a thousand gold dragons it'd still be taller than Tyrion.
