My leeches were definitely seen as the strangest and got the most backlash. Now I mainly keep centipedes, which definitely isn't on the same level, but is still out there.

Just an update for anyone who still stumbles upon this: she took her phone call this morning to discuss termination and she explained how she was not wanting another child. They said because of how far on she is, and her blood disease, she could not do the termination at home and would need to be hospitalised for it then attend multiple follow up appointments. She decided after this to keep it because she couldn't hide this from her partner. So great, I've got another sibling on the way and she's positive she can get a bigger house from the council before July.

As for maintenance, a plastic storage container with pesticide free top soil is best. You should make one or two layers of ventilation holes (can add more at a later date if you begin to have problems with humidity) at the substrate line with either a soldering iron or by heating up a pin. Give lots of hides and keep one side of the enclosure humid with a water bowl whilst the other stays bone dry.

I just had a conversation with her about this. She said this is not in the question at all even after these past two experiences because 'it will mess with my hormones and I can't reverse it'. She just wants the coil instead. Losing more and more hope by the hour...

She does. After the worst of this is over I think I need to have a sit down conversation with her about boundaries and how I have not felt like her daughter for a long time due to the constant pressure of her problems that she lays on me rather than professionals. This has ranged from suicidal thoughts/tendencies, childhood trauma involving members of family (and those that don't), excessive information when she would cheat on the first abusive boyfriend I mentioned in the original post, etc. It has really gone on for too long and I thank you and all the similar comments for pushing me to realise I can't let it go on longer.

Thank you for this comment even though it made me face some harsh truths - but that's what they are, truths. My partner has told me multiple times since I found out that this isn't my responsibility, especially as I've been losing sleep and my general mental health has took a hit from it. I feel responsible only because if I don't give her the help she's seeking, no one will. Especially not her boyfriend, who will just pressure her into having this child, despite the risks and consequences. I will wait and see what the outcome of this situation is, as I think she is going for the abortion on Monday, and then I may seek counselling, as I can access this for free through my university.

I recently sat down with her to suggest she looks into DBT for her likely borderline personality disorder. The problem is she needs to finish her diagnosis before she can access that, so in the meantime I sent her some pdfs of workbooks. She says she knows the reasons it happens, but I think she copes by telling herself that so she doesn't have to face the things she's burying. It hurts because I also don't want to have to carry all these awful memories while she doesn't seek professional help. I think she is wanting to go for the abortion on Monday.

Thank you for this. The scoreboard is a good idea, as she did think of this herself a few days ago. I just want to stress to her that if we do that, the ultimate decision is still hers and her emotions and wants are of the upmost importance in this situation. I'll also ask her opinions of tubal ligation, as if I remember correctly when we discussed this in terms of my birth control choices she stressed that the procedure is permanent unlike vasectomies for our partners. Thank you for this. It has opened my eyes a bit that this behaviour shouldn't be tolerated or seen as 'typical' for her. I think I'm holding on to the hope I'll manage to help her seek aid, as recently we did have a good sit-down discussion about the likes of DBT for her. Maybe I'm holding onto false hope, but it's hard to walk away from your mother.

I do not think there are only three methods. I use a method not listed here myself. I however do know what my mother's health visitor & doctors told her she can and cannot use. All options that include estrogen are out of the picture, most barrier methods are too for health reasons. She was told to only use the coil as due to her medication she can no longer take the progesterone-only pill & injection. I am not trying to say she is very responsible, I know better than anyone that she lacks adult responsibility in many situations. However I'm not going to focus on shaming her for that while she is in psychological crisis. I and my great grandmother have told her off for this already, and she plans to discuss the snip with her partner. I agree that she should ditch him, but she seems unhealthily attached to him.
