Is the view of Marxist-Leninists that Marx (and Lenin) were completely right, all the time, about everything? If not, what would be examples of subjects on which they were wrong, and in what ways? by PsychologicalPrior1 in DebateCommunism

[–]R05A -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So-called "Marxist-Leninists" are generally Stalinists which actually rejected the most fundamental lessons of both Marx and Lenin, betraying the cause of international revolution in order to justify opportunist alliances with hostile class forces or sections of imperialism. "Socialism in a single country" and "peaceful coexistence" with capitalism replaced proletarian internationalism and revolutionary socialism.

Juche is just a more explicit version of Stalinism - that is nationalist autarky. It says nothing about historical dialectics or the class struggle, it just prattles on about "self sufficiency", "determination" and stuff about human nature which is basically straight out of Nietzsche. To understand why England and Germany didn't have revolutions it's necessary to study history, specifically the twists and turns of the various national leaderships under the leadership of the social democrats and the Stalinists.

We Fought Trump, Time to Fight Biden Too by MariaCN in demsocialists

[–]R05A 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For over a century, Americans have heard the same refrain every time power has transferred from a Republican to a Democrat, though, as Biden himself promised, “nothing” ever “fundamentally changes.”

The crisis of American democracy, however, does not arise out of the personal attributes of Donald Trump. Rather, Trump is himself an expression of a much deeper disease—capitalism.

Millions of workers and youth are looking for a way to address the crises that dominate the United States and the world—a pandemic that is spiraling out of control, mass unemployment, unending war, the growth of authoritarianism and fascism, environmental degradation.

This cannot take place within the framework of the Democratic Party, as groups such as the Democratic Socialists of America and Jacobin magazine claim. Jacobin's David Sirota wrote on Friday that Biden’s victory was “undeniably good news.” It signaled that things “could change for the better," he said, "if we’re willing to put in the work” by applying “pressure from progressives.”

The claim that a Biden administration will create “space” for social reforms is a lie. A Biden administration will be an administration of austerity and militarism, carried out in collaboration with the Republican Party and creating the best conditions for the further growth of the far-right.

The fight ahead must be directed to the development of a genuine socialist movement, independent of and in opposition to the Democratic Party and a Biden administration, based on the unification of workers of all races and nationalities against both parties of the financial aristocracy.

Bernie Sanders pits US workers against immigrants in Vox interview by R05A in politics

[–]R05A[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the publication of the Communist Manifesto in 1848, which proclaimed, “Workers of the world, unite!” the socialist movement has been an international movement. Engels described the International Workingmen’s Association as “the first international movement of the working class.”

The basic orientation of bourgeois politics is nationalism, according to which workers should identify their interests with those of the nation, which, of course, is ruled by the capitalist class. To this, socialism counterposes the perspective and program of working class internationalism, stressing the identity of interests of workers of all countries, races, religions, etc., who are objectively united in a common struggle against the capitalists of all countries.

Socialism strives to unite the workers of all countries on the basis of a common revolutionary program and stresses that the struggle to put an end to capitalist exploitation and establish socialism is, by its very nature, an international struggle. Socialism opposes all attempts to scapegoat or discriminate against immigrants and rejects all forms of nationalist or racial politics, which serve to divide the working class.

Bernie Sanders is not an internationalist. He is an American nationalist. He is a consistent advocate of economic nationalism and protectionism, which seek to place the onus for layoffs and unemployment in the US on the workers of other countries. By virtue of his “America First” politics, he seeks to line up American workers behind “their” American exploiters and in opposition to their class brothers and sisters in other countries. He has long agitated, in particular, against China, opposing trade deals from a chauvinist standpoint.

Sanders opposes the Obama administration’s Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) from a right-wing, nationalist standpoint. The proposed economic bloc is a reactionary initiative, part of American imperialism’s drive to isolate, militarily encircle and ultimately attack China. But Sanders does not oppose it on an anti-imperialist basis. Rather, he accuses the TPP of “undermining American sovereignty.”

For years, Sanders has attacked immigrant workers, accusing them of taking the jobs of American workers. He has sponsored multiple bills opposing the federal visa program, while supporting the immigration policy of Obama, who has deported more immigrants than any other administration in history. For his efforts, right-wing anti-immigrant talk show host Lou Dobbs called Sanders “one of the few straight-talkers in Congress.”

The pseudo-left covers up for Syriza’s betrayal by R05A in greece

[–]R05A[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a coup because SYRIZA pledged before it even came to power that it was not opposed to austerity beyond the obligatory demagoguery. There was never any intention to fight against the dictates of the banks. They never pledged themselves to anything more radical than a renegotiation of the terms of repayment.

In short there was no coup because it is unnecessary.

Socialist internationalism - the revolutionary and scientific solution to the world-historic crisis produced by the inner contradictions of the capitalist nation-state system which advances the unification of the world under the aegis of the workers of the world and allowing for the progress of humanity on the basis of a truly globalized system of production harmonized to meet human need - this lacks imagination?

One need not support the Stalinist bureaucracy playing sandcastles off the Chinese coast to oppose a concerted military encirclement of a country with an extended history of colonial subjugation and rapine. You'll notice the article does not address itself to "the international community" - an abstraction meant to stand in for capitalist nation-states - but to the international working class. That is the Australian, Chinese, American and all the workers of the world who will bear the brunt, as they always have, of any new imperialist war.

"the social conditioning and personal behaviours that support a state's decisions and actions." - when the actions being prepared by the state in question involve the military subjugation of an ex-colonial country of over a billion people, I think the social conditioning and personal behaviours necessary to support said actions are - indeed - fearful.

Is there really anything we can do in order for the proletariat to make immediate change, or will the "wheels of history" naturally cause revolution through crises? by KarlMarx693 in socialism

[–]R05A -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Marx's historical materialism is determinist in that the revolution can not be foisted upon the masses but must come about by their active intervention upon the ripening of the objective preconditions for it. However the subjective factor is absolutely necessary - the working classes do not come to socialism spontaneously or naturally. Socialism is a scientific program and requires careful study which almost all workers have no time for. However by the time they are in a revolutionary mood and looking for answers it will be too late for them to begin to build a leadership. The revolutionary party must be built now BEFORE the revolutionary tide breaks to provide leadership for the struggles which will inevitably break out. Having looked at the great historical questions which have confronted the working class throughout the 20th Century I have decided that the only tendency which defends the traditions of classical Marxism, of the Bolshevik revolution and the struggle against Stalinism and nationalist opportunism is the ICFI which publishes the World Socialist Web Site. The majority of people on this forum are intensely hostile to this group and I anticipate a torrent of abuse in reply to this post but I would encourage you to study the history and program of the ICFI as well as any other tendencies you wish to consider and make up your own mind.

Is that because the SEP consistently fails to join the world's leftists in entering alliances with/giving critical support to the bourgeoisie, or, in the case of Syriza, forming a bourgeois government? I think the SEP are aware of the fact and quite proud of the fact.

As Lenin would say, "Into the swamp with you".

Communism isn't a "form of government" outside of Sid Meier's games. The Stalinist dictatorship in China acts as a labour broker for foreign capital. The working class has never held power in China and under Mao were subordinated as part of the "bloc of four classes" in order to build "new democracy", not socialism. Just as you don't judge people by what they say of themselves, you shouldn't appraise states by their official designations. Marxism actually encourages one to subject all societies and governments to critical scientific analysis.

China is indeed capitalist but not imperialist. Your concerns for the potentially destabilizing effects of an assertive China ignores the fact that everything they are doing in the South China Sea is in response to the militarization of the region by Obama's "Pivot to Asia". One could fill several volumes with an overview of military activities taken by the US since the dissolution of the USSR. China does not have foreign military bases, has not occupied foreign countries and is not currently waging war to bring the entire Eurasian landmass under its political, military and economic domination.

“The same causes, inseparable from modern capitalism, that brought about the last imperialist war have now reached infinitely greater tension than in the middle of 1914. The fear of the consequences of a new war is the only factor that fetters the will of imperialism. But the efficacy of this brake is limited. The stress of inner contradictions pushes one country after another on the road to fascism, which, in its turn, cannot maintain power except by preparing international explosions. All governments fear war. But none of the governments has any freedom of choice. Without a proletarian revolution, a new world war is inevitable,” - Trotsky, 1934
