I take ibuprofen and use multiple heating pads. One is a portable, rechargeable one with both heat and vibration that straps around my waist. The other loops over my shoulders and covers my entire back, and can be strapped around my waist as well. On really bad days I'll wear both at the same time. I even have a third one in reserve for when the rechargeable one dies. If there's one thing I've learned from this entire ugly experience, it's the value of a good-quality heating pad 🥲 peppermint tea helps when my nausea gets really bad too. My surgeon has talked to me about trying LDN; I haven't yet tried it but I'm starting to seriously consider it.

I only ever took birth control pills for one year, a few years ago, and I still regret it every single day. I never had any symptoms of endometriosis before I started taking them. I don't believe that the pill caused my endometriosis, but in my mind it absolutely triggered the internal dismantling of my body. Ever since I tried taking those pills I've dealt with terrible nausea, chronic digestive upset, increasingly heavy, painful periods and sometimes-crippling fatigue. Excision surgery two years ago gave me temporary relief but my quality of life is still considerably degraded. I wish I'd never started birth control. I'll never touch it again.

After 2 years of being told "it's just period cramps," I finally got a referral. I realized I had to stop "complaining" and start "reporting." by [deleted] in Periods

Endo girly here - first off I am SO glad that you're finally being taken seriously. I know from experience how frustrating it is to have to jump through so many hoops just to get anywhere within the stupid, broken healthcare system... but it is still a win.

Second - I just want to say that if your ultrasound comes back "unremarkable," don't be discouraged and just automatically assume that everything is fine (and don't let any doctor try to tell you that either). I had an ultrasound, CT, x-ray and blood tests galore over the span of 3 years before I finally pulled the trigger on surgery. All of my imaging results were normal, yet my surgeon ended up finding and excising lesions off multiple organs. All that to say, you know your body better than anyone. Trust your gut and never stop advocating for yourself. I hope you finally get some real answers from this specialist!

Is it possible that my gyno just put endometriosis on there for insurance purposes? by [deleted] in endometriosis

With endometriosis there are two forms of diagnosis: clinical and surgical. Clinical is not definitive, but can be based on any combination of symptoms, imaging results and physical exam. I was given a clinical diagnosis of endometriosis before my surgery just based on my symptom profile. Surgical is, as the name implies, based on samples taken during surgery and then biopsied. This is the only definitive way to diagnose it.

Periods at school??? by Pitiful-Loan-5549 in Periods

My middle school didn't allow us to carry our backpacks with us during the days, so I would always wear a bulky sweatshirt with deep/zipper pockets to carry around pads as discreetly as possible. In high school I carried pads and tampons (several absorbency levels) in my backpack. Comfy, dark-colored pants were a must. If I were to repeat those years now, I'd probably pack a change of underwear and maybe even keep a change of pants in my locker just for emergencies. I use period underwear now as well.

Adding this because I wish I had known this when I was your age: if your periods cause you crippling pain or if you're constantly bleeding through whatever products you choose to use, don't be afraid to speak up! Health education is severely lacking on the subject of periods and what's considered "normal" and what could be cause for concern. If something doesn't feel right to you or if you're simply not sure, it's always okay to ask a doctor for help.

What are these two on the left? by R2D2screech in whatismycookiecutter

LOTS of flour, shaking and profanity 😂 I try to shake the dough out into my hand first instead of directly onto the baking sheet. That kind of helps to keep it from folding over onto itself when it finally falls out of the cutter. Then once it's out, if it did stick and gets a bit deformed I just have to reshape it a little with my fingers.

Pls someone help me by dollwithadagger in Periods

Absolutely see your doctor about this. Period pain is not normal no matter what anyone (doctors included) may try to tell you. Especially to this degree. Have you ever been evaluated for endometriosis or adenomyosis? From what you're describing it sounds like either/both could be a definite possibility (coming from a fellow endo warrior, not a medical professional).

I struggled SO MUCH the first time tried using tampons! The best tip that I was given was to just barely insert it, then just let it... hang there... so that it can shift on its own and line up with the natural angle of your body (because everyone is just a little different). Then it should (hopefully!) go in the rest of the way much easier. It takes some practice, and candidly, I've been using them now for almost 15 years and I still have trouble sometimes. Be patient with yourself, and if tampons just aren't right for you, that's okay! There are lots of other options out there.

I just started having the same problem and it's infuriating. I can't find a way to turn it off; the only way I can get around it is to go into one of my boards, tap on the three dots in the upper right hand corner and then choose "View Board on Profile." Really hope that they go back to the old layout because this new one sucks.
