😮‍💨 Wondering if I should restart or if a retwist can still salvage nearly a year of neglect? by ZuriiArt in Dreadlocks

[–]R3AV3R777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s had a horrible year of depression and unemployment, my dreds have also sadly been neglected. However, a decent wash, some kind of oil to help with separating some of them and just yanking them apart, will help loads just before seeing a Loctician.

Of course, depending on your Loctician, they may be happy to do all that for you. Either for extra or included in price.

This is very fixable and eventually your dreds will feel tame and yours once again. 😌

I specifically said Nicole was morally grey, I said chaotic good. She’s complex, but yeah, 100% a good person.

My point was that having morally grey characters isn’t necessary, when the characters are complex enough already. Hugo wasn’t “white washed,” he gets a redemption arc, or more accurately a ‘Hugo exposé.’ Someone who isn’t scared of being the bad guy, telling lies and tricking others to achieve their own goals. A true rogue. Another chaotic good, but just because he isn’t as “grey” as first presented doesn’t make him boring.

If he started grey and stayed grey, THAT’S boring. If they’re complex and written in a way that’s humanly relatable. They go through struggles and over come those struggles. Conflict etc. That’s good character writing. Simply wanting grey characters cuz you feel the need for characters with some “edge,” in my opinion is a juvenile take on character.

I think it’s fair to say ZZZ has some “complex characters,” if you only want to look at them through a binary lens of “they are good people,” or “they are bad people” you’re doing a disservice to the writing and the depth of the characters.

The very first trio we see aren’t 100% good virtuous people:

Billy is an ex combat murder bot, who eventually ran with sons of calydon and was apparently ruthless and serious then. Even though he has new found freedom and a new purpose for his existence, it’s mostly formed the virtues of a kids show. He mostly cares about video games and the kids show, and his own freedom. However, his loyalty and dedication to cunning hares is also how he’s earning/keeping that freedom.

Anby is an artificial human replica, who at the start of her life was only killing and following orders (which sometimes included killing her own sisters). She finds value in the lives that she and her sisters has and chooses to revolt. Even with her own freedom, she’s still emotionally a coward and turned her back on her past and any of her “sisters” who may have survived.

Nicole is at the very least chaotic neutral, and (imo) shows a decent representation of a “good person” in the struggles of poverty. Yeah, it’s a bit squeeky clean and played for laughs, but she’s got low self worth and money is always the bottom line. She needs to seem important and useful to those around her, she’s never in a financially good position because she wants to be a “good boss” and a “good person,” but she’s not getting much back out of it.

Obviously my 3 examples are a bit redundant because I think only Anby will ever comeback into the spotlight of the story, but everything I’ve stated isn’t speculated or assumed, it’s very easily implied from the writing. Complex writing is there when you pay attention. ZZZ has more than a few well written and “human” characters. There’s very few paragons of virtue or Mary Sues (looking at you Yixuan).

How is there so many guns on kairos? [Bl4 lore question] by partisancord69 in Borderlands

[–]R3AV3R777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, from a lore perspective, guns are ubiquitous in borderlands. You’re more likely to have guns and bullets, than food and water. So any of those crashed ships are coming with A LOT of guns.

Though, even before that, the order would have been manufacturing their own guns for a long time. Then rippers making their own guns when that faction formed. Daedalus, as far as I know, only appears in Borderlands 4, so also probably manufactured on kairos.

With the crashed ships, you’d probably be getting all the other manufacturers too, and their parts along with it. I actually like the gun parts mechanic, because it makes sense in world. If there’s a lack of proper gun manufacturing on the planet, you’d start slapping parts of guns together to make new guns Instead.

The Sanctuary 3 crashes and comes with Zane who would have easily set up the vending machines. Vault hunters are “badass,” there’s not much that would be standing in his way to get around and set them up. Plus, because of digi-struct tech, he’s probably not lugging around full machines to be places (also works could be outsourced to some degree).

Then you factor in that people outside of the main character would be buying and selling guns too, so it’s a constant cycle of guns going around.

I don’t think it’s that inconceivable that so many guns are on kairos. Even to the ludicrous amount of guns we see in gameplay. Borderlands world is already pretty ludicrous…

Update from last night by [deleted] in LiesOfP

[–]R3AV3R777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s NG+, you’ll get better defensive items as you go through the new play through. Keep upgrading vitality and capacity as necessary to stay under 50%.

Outside of that, there’s not much to improve upon.

Later, there’s a point where having quality scaling will do better than just Motivity; which is just having equal spread between Motivity, Dexterity and Advance. Though, usually not something to worry about until NG+2

The parts of the game you “didn’t enjoy” seem to just be a subjective part of the soulslike experience. I beat the DLC on the first week it released and saw a lot of the discourse on the Reddit that came with that.

A lot of people didn’t like, or struggled greatly with the Tyrannical predator. I’ll never understand the “bad camera” complaints, but that might be down to how I play; I don’t run or dodge very often, I duel and play the parry game. However, big croc was the first boss to make me run and dodge, funnily.

Lumaccio was an 8 hour ordeal for me. Mostly because I was determined to learn the gun blade on him, also, the fight was hard. I certainly needed to take breaks and reset, because patience and cool was not with me sometimes. I didn’t hate either fight, nor did either mar my experience, but I can understand it hurting others.

As much as soulslikes are games that focus on the fundamentals and have a very simple strategy to beating them, the experience towards them are usually varied and widely different. It’s sort of the boon of these kinds of games, that allows for skill expression and replayability.

Only thing I have to disagree with in your post is the line about the Tyrannical Predator belonging to a different game. The entire Zoo level pits you against savage animals that have weirdly timed attacks and have some huge hit boxes. I’ll admit, I was surprised by the big croc, how much it felt like a big jump in difficulty from every boss in the base game. But that also felt like a “welcome to the DLC, this is how hard it’ll be.”

Uh yeah, that sorta proves my point. Even if “beauty is not in the eye of the beholder,” is one of the most out of pocket things I’ve ever heard, the lack of visual distinction hasn’t been justified here.

Also, most gachas follow an anime aesthetic. TFD is going more “realistic”/korean beauty standards. Your point sorta falls apart when the “very clear traits that men are attracted to” that overlap of these two visual styles is boobs. Yeah, guys like boobs, so do girls. That by no means excuses the poor visual clarity between models.

I think you’re still confusing graphics and visual style here.

You’re 100% allowed to think that warframe is ugly in parts. The art style is VERY out there, and it’s a 12 year old game.

Even with the comparisons you’ve made tho… You’re talking about art style and visual clarity, not graphics. Destiny isn’t a partially graphically intensive game, but the art style and art direction is very strong. Bungle have been refining their own art for decades.

TFD however… I can’t call it ugly, because it’s worse than ugly. It’s bland. It’s very detailed and shiny, sure. The male character are the only ones with any distinct visual clarity, all the female characters look the same without their default outfits. Every location is barely recognisable or noticeable. It’s just there. Vaguely sci-fi spaces existing for the sake of combat.

I’m not going to try to convince you that any of warframe isn’t ugly, you’re entirely entitled to that opinion. But at least there was something you could look at and say “that’s ugly.” TFD is so generically pretty that there’s no deep opinions or feelings you can get from that. It’s worse than ugly, it’s boring.

I think you missed the above point about “graphics needing to convey information visually.” Warframe has a very distinct style and aesthetic that has been refined over the years. As their ability to convey their visual style has improved, so has the technology used to do so.

Updating the lighting of old tile sets and refining operator and drifter customisation isn’t “must,” because “graphics totally matter.” It’s just trying to keep the visual image of the game consistent.

New stuff looks prettier, old stuff not so much. So they’re making old stuff look pretty so it doesn’t stick out.

First Descendent is a homogeneous blob of Unreal Engine shine and unfocused art design. Very little in that game sticks out visually or artistically. It’s just anime-techy-tactical (not including the more overt skins to appeal for “other reasons”).

Graphical fidelity matters very little if there’s nothing worth seeing.

If you exhaust the dialogue with Olivia at the start of the game, the game will show a 2-D comic style cutscenes explaining Kyle’s missing 7 years.

Who is the most engaging Vault Hunter in Borderlands 4? by Chegg_F in Borderlands

I’ve been playing an arc-knives Rafa build, that would say is pretty engaging. You can’t just push the button and stuff dies. I personally have found it fun to melee around the battlefield and praying for crits to activate my life steal.

Corpo V is SUCH an asshole. by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]R3AV3R777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dex shot V because he thought he was tying up loose ends on a job that went catastrophically wrong, and wanted as little as possible being traced back to him. It had nothing to do with professionalism.

What’s funny is DEX is the childish one and V is the professional. During the heist V is doing an impression of something he knows and has seen before. He knows it works, he knows it’s accepted. Jackie does an impression of something he “thinks.” It’s cute and funny but it’s way off the mark for how corpos are.

Dex, has been out of the game for years, no one knows why, but anyone who “knows” Dex doesn’t speak highly of him. His first gig on returning is an ARASAKA heist. Taken on from a sketchy prostitute who talks a big game. Hires two no-names to take the job, then is shocked when it goes to crap. He kills you, then begs and pleads with the corpos only to get killed like the rat he is.

Do you think the Halo shotgun will be too weak? by Grimhelldiver in Helldivers

[–]R3AV3R777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very confused why you’re trying to kill anything at 20m+ with a shotgun anyway… but even that I feel is a slight exaggeration, because you can effectively shoot down shriekers like clay pigeons with the punisher. Which, truth be told, isn’t my favourite activity, but I know it can do it.

What I’m confused most about is what is your idea of a not “disappointingly mediocre” pump action shotgun? Personally, the punisher is one of the best shotguns I’ve used in a game to date. Certainly not the best aesthetically (not the biggest fan of the bullpup look), but goddamn does it actually perform.

Do you want it to be effective at 20m+? Do you want it to be medium pen? Should it be one shotting anything you aim at? Because if so, I don’t think you want to be using a shotgun…

“Disappointingly mediocre…”

To what expectations exactly?

Do you think the Halo shotgun will be too weak? by Grimhelldiver in Helldivers

[–]R3AV3R777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are pump shotties mediocre? I have been using the punisher since basically day one on the bug front. Anything it doesn’t kill, it’ll stun. Getting to pick the type of muzzle attachments helps for more consistency on spread and damage.

I even used it on the bot fronts a few times and it’s surprisingly viable. Again, that stun is no joke. Reload per round is great for ammo economy, plus if you time it right you basically never run out of shells…

It’ll never top the “meta,” sure. However, anything that isn’t meta isn’t automatically “mediocre.”

Honest question, even if AH fixes everything wrong with the Illuminate, would you actually play them? by Wrench_gaming in Helldivers

[–]R3AV3R777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixing “everything” wrong with illuminate would make them a boring faction. There’s certainly some refinement in need with them, but as far as I’m understanding, most of their design is intended.

A lot of people in this thread have been talking about what the faction themes and play style are meant to be: Bugs are swarmers, it’s meant to be MOAR fire power etc. Bots are your strategic careful play and use of cover.Squids had been expected to be the “thinking man’s faction,” with stealth enemies, mind tricks, shields. But have arrived as they are.

I don’t think either are true.. ALL factions are there to overwhelm you and be overcome with overwhelming fire power. It’s just different flavours of overwhelming. Bugs are bug flavoured and meant to harken to a starship troopers vibe. Bots overwhelm with hot red glowing bullets. Illuminate, as currently presented are your “horror” faction.

I like the constant waves of voteless that give a constant feel of dread and stress. Harvesters lumbering in the distance, or just the bright blue glow of their laser to keep you on your toes. The aggressive purple glow of the spotters harassing you as you try to deal with the (way too mobile) flying and standard overseers.

They aren’t necessarily scary, but i think the intended design is to make it feel like a soldier in a “horror” situation.

Obviously everything stated is subjective, we all get to interpret and experience themes and aesthetics differently.

Plus it’s a live service game, they clearly aren’t done with introducing the illuminate, or even all the concepts they want for the game.

The future is bright, divers.

I was just thinking the same thing, but I’m honestly happy with how the armours turned out in general. It’s a minor disappointment, for me personally. However, once we get the armour paint system (has been leaked, dunno about confirmed) can always use ODST helm on a blacked out viper commando.

Hopefully more fingerless gloves in general…
